Chapter One. #2
Dynamo crawled even further into the corner. She wrapped an arm around her bare legs, and her eyes gleamed in the darkness. Her skin was so pale she almost shone.
“Dynamo, stand down!” Jameson roared. What the hell was going on here? I’d heard rumours about another chapter, but nothing about Camden. Jameson was keeping secrets, serious ones, and that made me pissed.
“Dynamo, answer me,” Jameson ordered. The phone flew from Vicious’s hand, and I gaped as it was crunched into a tiny ball before falling to the floor. Well, fuck.
“Prez, there are bodies,” Razor, my SSA, said. My gaze swept across the room, noting figures pressed toward a wall hidden in darkness. They were naked and covered in wounds. Like Dynamo, dried blood had trickled down their legs.
“What the hell is going on here?” Razor asked, and I couldn’t answer.
“Warden is riding, but says… fuck!” Double Tap exclaimed, returning.
Dynamo’s hand flashed, and before I could warn him, he joined us.
“Good fuckin’ question. Jameson and Warden are keeping secrets.”
“No shit,” Vicious ground out. Sweat dripped down his forehead as he tried to move.
“Dynamo, listen, girl. We’re okay with staying here and giving you space.
Warden and your club are riding. We’re Royal Bastards, you’re family, we ain’t gonna harm you,” I soothed.
My usual order-and-demand attitude wouldn’t work here.
Not with the shit Dynamo was dealing with.
And whatever paranormal crap she was throwing around.
Dynamo didn’t say a word. Just stared at my patches. She fingered the tee above her breast, and I guessed she was feeling for her own.
“Did anyone see Dynamo’s cut?”
A chorus of denials came back.
Razor released a low moan, and I glanced at Razor’s wrist; she’d broken it. His pain was clear, but Razor was staying calm.
Dynamo didn’t move, and the minutes ticked past. We stayed quiet, sensing how on edge she was. My cell rang. Dynamo’s head snapped up.
“Dynamo, it’s probably for you,” I murmured.
Causally, as if an everyday occurrence, she pulled the phone out of my pocket and pressed answer.
“Teller, we’re coming. ETA four hours, maybe less.” Warden was pushing it. Camden was a good five-and-a-half hours away.
I couldn’t reply because I couldn’t open my mouth. Dynamo’s eyes glinted. Fuck, she was keeping my jaw shut! What the hell was this?
“Teller? You there?” Warden sounded concerned. “Has something happened to my sister?”
“Warden?” Dynamo whispered. The line went quiet.
“Jesus Christ! Dynamo. Talk to me!” The feeling in Warden’s voice was genuine. Tears rose in Dynamo’s eyes.
“Warden,” she choked on his name before cutting the call. Dynamo’s head tilted, and she held my gaze. Slowly the pressure on my chest eased, and we were lowered to the floor.
“Stay back,” Dynamo ordered, and I nodded. Whatever she wanted, she got.
My temper was rising as I looked at the sorry heap of bodies.
Those cunts had abused a member of the Royal Bastards.
They’d taken and tortured our family. Dynamo had appeared to have managed some sort of revenge, but she’d been broken.
There was no walking away for Dynamo. She’d not forget this.
In time, Dynamo might move past this, but the memories would always linger.
Infuriated, I edged towards her abusers, murder in mind.
“No. Mine,” Dynamo muttered and nudged me gently back.
“Dynamo, I’m going to search for your cut,” Grinder said.
Dynamo didn’t react.
Grinder slipped out, and slowly I sat my ass on the ground.
Double Tap eyed me before copying my actions.
Razor and Vicious followed suit. Grinder returned after ten minutes holding a cut.
Dynamo’s. In the dim light, I could see it had been damaged—likely, the road had ripped it to shreds—and there were dark stains on it. Blood, I guessed.
Grinder didn’t approach Dynamo but placed it down and joined us. Dynamo stared at it before using her powers to yank it closer. She hugged it tightly and sat in silence.
When one of the abusers groaned, she rapped his head against the floor and knocked him out. From the safety of her corner, she observed the room, ready to react if need be.
Four hours later
Boots stomped, and I looked up. Warden and his club had arrived, but I didn’t call out. Dynamo had become twitchier as the hours ticked past. She didn’t speak or look at us, but she was certainly on high alert.
The door slammed open, and Warden appeared with his VP beside him. Both men took in their surroundings, and the horror hit them at the same time.
Dynamo raised her face and held Warden’s gaze.
“Fuck.” The word fell from Warden’s lips and conveyed so many emotions. Pain, anger, hurt, distress, grief, guilt—it showed them all. Dynamo shoved her head back between her knees and refused to look up again.
“Romeo, Slasher,” Warden said. A brother stepped forward, eyes glowing as he focused on Dynamo.
Seconds later, a soft sigh escaped, and she slumped forward.
Warden crouched down beside her as Slasher hovered over her.
In sheer disbelief, my brothers and I watched as Slasher’s hands glowed as he ran them over Dynamo’s body.
“She’s safe for transport,” he announced.
“Romeo, keep Dynamo under until we get home. I don’t want her waking up in a strange place,” Warden ordered.
“Your clubhouse local?” Undertaker, Warden’s VP, asked.
“Yeah,” I replied as I motioned for my brothers to get up.
