Chapter One. #3

“Can we head there? Slasher needs to check Dynamo over somewhere safe.” Warden held my gaze, and I saw what he wasn’t saying.

“Be my pleasure. What about them?” I nodded to the pile of bodies. They were alive, although some barely were.

“Fuck me, Dynamo lit into them. Hope she made them suffer,” Romeo snarled, hate in his voice.

“Slasher, keep them breathing. Dynamo’s not finished yet. I know our sister.”

Confused, I sent Warden a quizzical glance.

“They’d be dead if Dynamo had; she probably tired herself out,” he added, and I nodded. Somehow I didn’t doubt that.

Slasher stood over them, distaste on his face, but hands glowing. Was he healing them? I eyed Warden. Jameson had certainly been keeping secrets.

Warden

Teller was eyeing me suspiciously, and his club was on high alert. All the women had been removed from the clubhouse when we arrived, and I’d have laughed if I hadn’t perceived that as an insult.

“Royal Bastards,” I snapped. “Different chapters, but family all the same.”

Teller caught on and shrugged.

“None of ya are exactly normal.”

“I’m your brother!” I growled.

Teller stiffened. He didn’t like me pointing that out.

“Ain’t shit on you, Teller, so why remove the women? Think we’re going to lose control? Blow up and harm someone?” I sneered.

Teller went to open his mouth.

I turned to Slasher. “Can Dynamo make it home?”

“Yeah.”

“Camden, roll out; we’re heading back,” I ordered. “Take Dynamo in the SUV and ride beside her, Slasher. Romeo, keep our sister under until we’re home.”

“Warden—”

Teller didn’t get to finish because Vogue appeared. “You’re frightened of them. They ain’t the monsters—I am.” Her hands lit up in flames.

Teller stepped back, as did most of his club. They all appeared shocked.

Then Teller squared his shoulders. “Got a right to protect my club.”

“Yeah. But we’re family,” I retorted.

Teller looked down, and as we filed out, he called out. “Stop. You’re correct. Warden, Grinder has prepared the doctor’s room for you. At least check Dynamo out before travelling.”

I held Teller’s gaze, wanting him to understand I was pissed, then slowly nodded. Noble carried Dynamo in as Vogue eyed the van with the perpetrators.

“A little singeing won’t hurt,” she muttered.

“Want them alive, Vogue,” I warned.

“They’ll be alive. Just missing a few body parts.”

“They’re Dynamo’s. She earned them,” I ordered.

Vogue spun with hate in her eyes. “Earned? You think Dynamo earned this shit?”

“Don’t put words in my mouth. Dynamo deserves to make the call. Nobody has the right to take that away. If Dynamo wants to torture them for a year and have Slasher heal them, that’s her choice,” I snapped back.

Vogue growled.

“Come with me,” Double Tap said.

Vogue eyed him, and Grinder jerked his head. Muttering threats against anyone with a dick, Vogue shadowed him. Moments later, red flares lit the sky as Vogue released her frustrations.

“Romeo, stay with Dynamo, keep her under. Aura and Wisecrack, you’re on Vogue,” I ordered. They nodded and followed Slasher and Noble, and I turned to Teller. “Let’s get a beer.”

Teller

“What you’re about to learn is highly confidential. This isn’t to be discussed or used against Camden,” Jameson ordered sharply.

“Understood,” I agreed curtly.

“On your life,” Jameson demanded. “That’s what it will cost should Camden’s abilities get out.”

“Don’t threaten me, Jameson; I know how to keep secrets,” I snapped at the FaceTime call.

Jameson looked at Warden, who shrugged. He was leaving the decision in Jameson’s hands. Jameson paused, considered, then decided.

“Camden isn’t normal. Most of Warden’s people have a psychic ability. Healing, telepathy, clairvoyance, telekinesis, etcetera, and some that ain’t so well known. They formed a club to protect themselves. Those with similar abilities find them and join,” Jameson said.

“You use Camden as problem solvers,” I sussed out.

“Fuck no. Warden would hang me out to dry. If Camden offers help, I’ll accept it, but they’re not a weapon for the Royal Bastards.

Still, if people were aware, they’d take advantage, cage and use them.

The military would weaponise them. Warden’s chapter has the right to breathe freely and without fear or being constantly on guard. ”

Jameson’s gaze took in the brothers with me, those who’d ridden to rescue a sister in Camden’s chapter. He was warning us.

“Teller, I wouldn’t have to shut you up. If threatened, Camden will defend themselves. They’ve got a right to live,” Jameson warned. “Don’t fuck up, because you’re one of the few outside Camden who’s in the know. Screw Camden over, and I won’t interfere in the justice they take.”

Jameson cut the call. I turned to Warden and stared at his impassive face.

“You’ve got shit on me, and you know it. You can bury me with the same ease as I can you. Let’s not let doubts ruin a brotherhood,” I said.

Warden held my gaze for several long moments before nodding.

“Ain’t nothing truer than that,” he agreed, reaching out a hand. I clasped his elbow and knew that I’d protect Camden as determinedly as I would my own chapter. We were one club after all.
