Chapter 8 The Bracelet Vanishes
Zhou Xu Cheng gave a light shake of his head, a trace of helplessness in his eyes.
"I brought her here for the five gold pieces for our engagement, and you're just causing trouble. Hurry up and pick two things you like, then take Dou Dou to the hospital. I'll settle the bill in a bit."
Zhou Xiao Yan lifted her chin. The look she gave me was pure provocation.
I ignored her. I had Li Fei help me take off the Van Cleef & Arpels diamond floral bracelet so I could try on a few bangles.
Li Fei removed the bracelet with care. "Xu Qing Xia, our store just got a machine for cleaning this kind of inlaid jewelry. Would you like me to clean the bracelet for you?"
I nodded. Li Fei carried the bracelet into the warehouse at the back.
Ten minutes later.
The machine let out a string of beeps.
Li Fei gave me a quick word and went to fetch the bracelet.
But she came rushing back out almost at once, panic all over her face.
"Chen Lu Lu, did you take the customer's Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet by mistake?"
Chen Lu Lu gave me a half-smile. Her tone dripped with open mockery. "Van Cleef & Arpels? A Pin Duo Duo version of Van Cleef & Arpels? I wouldn't dare touch it~"
Li Fei's brow tightened. "Just now only the two of us went in and out of the warehouse for stock! Chen Lu Lu, if you still won't hand it over, I'm calling the Store Manager down to pull the cameras. The warehouse surveillance covers every angle with no blind spots!"
I took off every bangle I had been trying on and turned to Zhou Xu Cheng.
"Call the police for me."
Chen Lu Lu let out a snort. "Lady, the police work hard too! Don't waste their time over your 9.9 free-shipping Van Cleef & Arpels.
"Fine, call it my bad luck! Send me a link and I'll buy you a new one, all right?
"Complain and call the cops over every little thing! Anyone stuck with you must be worn half to death!"
I signaled Zhou Xu Cheng with my eyes to keep dialing, and sent a message on my own phone.
Before he could finish the call, a man who said he was the Store Manager strode over and pressed down on the back of Zhou Xu Cheng's hand.
"Hey, sorry. I'm the Store Manager here. Whatever you're unhappy about, you can tell me. Can we not call the police for now? Once you report it, every employee in this store loses their whole performance bonus. We're all working people. We've got families to feed!"
The Store Manager then stepped in front of me. "Miss, did Li Fei make you angry? As long as you cool off, I can fire her on the spot!"
