3. Leave It Alone
LEAVE IT ALONE
BLUE
It’s been a little over a week since I’ve seen Bishop around the clubhouse. As a matter of fact, the main crew is gone. I’ve been around long enough to know that something huge is going down. The Hounds don’t just call a meeting in the middle of a party for nothing.
I’m lost in thought as I leave the clinic.
I have just finished stocking the medical supplies and finished my shift.
We’ve been busy as hell, and this is the only break I’ve had since I got here.
The Doc said that I could head out, but instead of heading home, I wanted to stick around for a bit to see if the guys would come back tonight.
I was really hoping to see Bishop, so we could have the long-awaited conversation about what almost happened the last time I saw him.
When he grabbed me and pulled me away like he was heading to his bedroom, I was in shock.
I can’t explain the excitement I felt, knowing what we could possibly do to each other once given a chance.
The smoldering look in his hazel eyes when he snatched me up made my panties practically disintegrate.
That deep, growly voice, saying the sexiest shit he has ever said to me, had me ready and willing.
Bishop acts like all he wants to do is flirt.
We both know that it’s a fucking lie. Anytime anyone looks my way, he loses his shit.
I can see the jealousy anytime a man breathes in my direction. However, he never acts on it. His stubborn ass refuses to give in to the attraction that we share, and it’s frustrating as hell.
But at least my attraction to Bishop has been a good way to keep my mind off why I have to be at the clubhouse so much in the first place. The Hounds have helped me immensely without any questions asked.
Mama’s husband really fucked us over this time. Chauncey made sure Mama got nice and drunk before he took her to a loan shark. Now, these people are looking for her to pay off the debts that her deadbeat spouse racked up.
Thank goodness I could drain my savings to help hold them off for a little while. People like that don’t work on good faith, so I have been working my ass off to pay the debt down. The first payment bought me some time, but the sooner I get this shit paid, the better.
“Hey, sweet cheeks. I see you work at the clinic. Can you be my medicine?”
One of the cute little prospects interrupts my wayward thoughts. I didn’t even realize he was standing behind me. Good thing that I know I’m safe here, or he would’ve scared the shit outta me.
“Prospect, you don’t look capable of handling a Tylenol. You sure as hell can’t handle me,” I sassily reply.
“Oh, I know I can handle you. I’m sure that sweet pussy of yours is just the cure I need.” The prospect licks his lips salaciously.
I give him a saucy smile because he wouldn’t know what to do with me if I gave him instructions.
“Sweetie, my pussy causes addictions. So, think about what you really want before asking me again.” I wink, walking away.
A little flirtation from the newbies around here never gets old.
For one, it doesn’t take them long to figure out that I’m off limits.
The flirting usually only lasts a week tops.
Even though I would never sleep with a prospect or any of the Hounds, for that matter, because they are all like family to me.
Well, not all of them are like family.
“Hey, Tiny!” I shout over the loud music.
Tiny waves one hand in the air while the other pours me a shot.
I down the tequila quickly, then head to the bathroom.
I smile when I bump into Sassy. She’s Ace’s Old Lady and one of my good friends.
We’ve gotten into our fair share of trouble together, but she’s one of the most trustworthy individuals I’ve ever known.
“Hey, Blue. What’s up?” Sassy greets me with a hug.
“Hey, Sass. I’m surprised to see you here. The brothers have been MIA for a week now.” I say, hugging her back.
“Oh, you must not have heard. They’re on their way back.” She looks down at her watch before continuing, “I just got a text not too long ago. They should be here any minute now.”
Before Sassy could even finish her sentence, my heart rate had sped up. I don’t know what kind of hold Bishop has on me, but I have got to do something about it. I can’t go on yearning for him like this.
I almost had a breakthrough the last time we were together.
I could see it in his hazel eyes that he was finally ready to admit his attraction to me went beyond flirting.
I’ll have to gauge his mood when he gets back, but the next time I get a chance to talk to Bishop, he will not be able to run away.
I’ve had a nervous energy since Sassy told me the guys were on their way back. I have to keep reminding myself that I’m a grown-ass woman and not some girl with a crush. I can remember the first time I ever saw Bishop. I thought he was the finest man I’d ever seen.
Bishop is tall and imposing, with an air of intelligence that surrounded him.
You knew upon first sight that he was a man you could never fuck with.
Those piercing hazel eyes looked more green until he was angry.
When he was mad, those eyes turned muddy, the brown almost completely taking over. I was fascinated by him from the start.
What’s crazy about Bishop is I didn’t know who he was for a long time, even though I grew up around here. He was never around when my dad was alive. I found out that Bishop not only lived a double life, but he was damn near a secret member of the Hounds.
Because of his work in the District Attorney’s office, he was a silent member for a long time. I don’t know what happened, but he went from ghost to in charge in the blink of an eye. I believe his high-ranking status in the club is one of the many reasons he acts the way he does.
A lot of the women who hang around MCs are in it for the status. They like the power that comes with being with a member. A lot of these chicks are ruthless and cutthroat.
But Bishop knows that the reasons I want him have nothing to do with the club and everything to do with him. But he says that he can’t give me what I want. He knows I want the real deal like my mama and daddy had.
A loud cheer brings me out of my thoughts and back to the present. I see the celebration about to kick up a few thousand notches when the brothers march in one by one. They all look tired and… pissed.
I definitely ain’t tryin’ to talk to a pissed off Bishop.
I really need to stop obsessing over him. But our last encounter keeps replaying in my head. I keep imagining what could’ve happened if we hadn’t been interrupted.
I can’t keep getting distracted because I need to lock in and make this money. I have thirty thousand dollars to make, and loan sharks don’t exactly like it when you’re late. However, because I was able to give them money right then and there, they worked with me.
It helped that one of the men knew of my affiliation with the Hounds. I don’t know how he knew or why that made a difference, but you can bet your ass that I didn’t ask. I said thank you, gave the man his money, and got my Black ass up outta there.
I’m just glad that Chauncey’s trifling behind was already in jail, so he didn’t have a chance to mess up the deal that I made. Even though the Hounds are the reason that I was able to get a deal done in the first place, none of them have any idea.
I know it’s wrong as hell not to tell them, but I can’t let them know the mess that I’m in. Who knows how they might react. No, I just gotta keep my head down and make this money. Besides, they are helping just by letting me work in the clinic.
At this rate, though, I will be able to pay off Mama’s debt and even have some left to replenish my savings. Hopefully, I can do it quickly so I can stop working myself to death. I hate that I even have to help Chauncey, even if it’s by proxy.
That motherfucker deserves to go down. Unfortunately, they came after Mama because the bastard pretty much had her making the deals for everything. It was a good thing I was at the house when they came by to collect; otherwise, there’s really no telling what they would’ve done to my poor mama.
I decided that I should just head home instead of worrying about Bishop. I’m glad that he is back safely from wherever they were. However, I’m too exhausted to play hide-and-seek with him tonight. I might snap if he ignores me, so it’s best that I just leave.
Yeah, just leave it alone, Blue.
