5. Invisible String
INVISIBLE STRING
BISHOP
“So, you’re saying an ATF agent came to your office on some warning type shit?” Rock questions, anger covering his face.
“Yeah, that’s what the bitch said,” I respond.
“Why the fuck would they do that?” Big Black questioned.
“Cause they want something from us,” I answer.
“No, they want something from you.” Rock points an accusatory finger in my direction.
I sigh heavily. I know he’s right. I worked with those assholes when I was in the D.A. office as a means to an end. I did a lot of shit so I could have the inside track. I needed to move up and make shit shake, and I did.
I did a lot of dirt to get where I needed to be, and a lot of people have jobs as agents because of me. I don’t regret anything that I did. But dealing with any law enforcement agency always comes at a cost. I don’t like to get involved with them unless I absolutely have to.
“What does that mean? You was a cop or some shit, V.P.?” Mix, a new member asks.
“Fuck no. You know better shit than that, kid,” Ace answers before I get the chance.
“My fault.” Mix holds up his hands. “I knew you used to be one of the good guys. I just thought… never mind.”
“It’s cool, kid. I ain’t ever been a good guy.” I smirk. “I did what needed to be done when I was a prosecutor so we would always be a step ahead. In fact, those son-of-a-bitches ain’t good either.”
I know my explanation might be vague, but it’s all I’m willing to say to the group. My brothers don’t need to be involved in this shit. Most of them weren’t even members when I was working as a prosecutor.
“So, this ATF bitch said that there’s a new player in town who might be our competition. Why would they care?” Stone questions.
“Good question. My guess is they want us to take them out. Which means I need Wire to do a deep dive so we can see if anybody is runnin’ their mouth. We ain’t taking out nobody on the word of those fuckers. But if they cause us problems, they’ll disappear. You feel me?” Rock questions the group.
“Yeah, Prez,” everyone in church answers in unison.
“Good. Church adjourned. You bastards go have a good time!” Rock dismisses.
Everyone files out of the conference room where we hold church, laughing and talking on their way to the party. I stay behind so me and Rock can talk. I hate that this shit has once again caught up to us.
“How deep in shit are we, brother?” Rock questions, leaning back in his chair.
“Deep enough to drown,” I respond, raking my hand through my hair.
“Have we considered that this might have to do with Myers and Frazier?”
“It’s a huge possibility. There’s no way these motherfuckers just show up out of the blue right when Frazier is out. I swear to god, I’m gonna kill all of those sheisty assholes as soon as I get the chance,” I say, letting my anger get the best of me.
“You know we can handle anything. We’ll get Frazier.
Hell, we will go to war if that’s what we have to do.
We’ve been cautious and built up our members.
We have brothers we can trust. Shit, we have brothers on the inside that we can activate if need be.
We’ll do whatever needs to be fucking done! ” Rock vehemently proclaims.
I nod my head. I know that my brothers will always stand behind me.
We’ve been through too much together. We’ve shed blood, lost loved ones, and killed for each other.
We are chosen family around here. That’s why I need this shit to come to an end.
I refuse to let anybody else be hurt behind bullshit.
“You’re right. Let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that. Hopefully we can end it without going to war,” I reply.
“Hopefully. Once Wire finishes up, we’ll go from there,” Rock reassures me. “Now, go relax. Who knows when you’ll have another chance.”
I nod and leave out to enjoy the shenanigans because Rock is absolutely right. There’s no telling when I’ll get to relax again. Not that I’ll be able to really relax tonight, but at least I can take the time to enjoy a drink and maybe some ass.
Who am I kidding? There’s only one woman I want, and I haven’t seen her in weeks. It took a lot of restraint for me not to track her ass down. As a matter of fact, if she isn’t here tonight, I just might.
“Is that Blue?” Lurk whistles low. “Damn, she’s lookin’ fuckin’ good. That ass is a rare sight.”
I scowl at the prospect before I can stop myself.
We opened up our membership again, but I’m starting to question some of our decisions.
Lurk is new around here, and I haven’t claimed Blue.
But everyone knows she’s off limits. It was just two weeks ago that I warned these bastards; maybe he didn’t get the memo.
I know Blue is testing me tonight, showing up in those little bitty ass shorts. But I can’t fold and do what I want to do to her because I know she wants something that I can’t give her. There’s no way I can have anything with her.
“Tread lightly motherfucker,” I finally respond, glaring at Lurk.
He throws his hands up, smirking. “Sorry, V.P. Didn’t know that you had a claim. Are you still feeling the love in the air since your stripper daughter married that mobster motherfucker?”
There aren’t many things that can get my attention or get me riled up to the point that I want to bash a motherfucker’s head in.
But talking about my daughter… definite way to make it happen.
This little prick doesn’t know shit about my family, and if he thinks his ass is going to be a part of our brotherhood asking stupid shit like that, he’s in for a rude awakening.
“What the fuck did you just say about my daughter?”
“Uh… your daughter is a stripper, right? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with being one; I thought that she… is she not? Umm, I mean… I didn’t…”
“Aye, man. Just shut the fuck up and get lost before the V.P. makes you disappear.” Big Country lightly shoves the stammering idiot away from me.
Lurk scurries away to the other side of the clubhouse without making eye contact with me, even though I’m staring a hole in the bastard.
He didn’t really say anything bad; hell, my daughter was a stripper at one point.
But he didn’t have to bring that shit up.
Especially when I’m already pissed about Blue being here looking so fucking sexy.
“Lurk didn’t mean anything by that. He doesn’t know it’s a sensitive topic for you,” Big Country says in a pitying tone.
I know his big ass is trying to be funny. All the guys were almost as pissed as I was when I found out Erica was stripping her way through college instead of coming to me. She’s an owner of a strip club now, and my baby girl is one hell of a businesswoman, but the shit still pisses me off.
“Shut the fuck up, Country,” I chuckle.
Country slaps me on the back and says, “You know I’m just fucking with you. But I’m sayin’, brother, if you don’t want somebody else to make her an Old Lady. You better make a move. These young bucks are on the hunt.”
“Don’t I fuckin’ know it,” I mumble.
I watch as Blue shakes her sexy ass on the makeshift dance floor with Sassy and Lamb. I don’t know how Ace and Stone do it. I’m possessive about Blue, and she ain’t even mine. I shake my head, smiling at the asinine thought.
“You look way less scary when you smile like that,” the sultry voice comes from beside me.
My smile grows bigger when I see Trixie standing there.
She’s pretty, with long light-brown hair, big brown eyes, and pouty lips.
Trixie keeps the drama to a minimum, and she’s not looking for anything serious.
We’ve had our interactions in the past, and she’s just what I need to get my mind off of Blue.
“With a voice and body like that, I can’t help but smile.” I turn and give her a long up-and-down perusal.
Trixie’s long tan legs look absolutely incredible in the short skirt she’s wearing.
She has a short little shirt that her cleavage spills out of, and the reddest lipstick I’ve ever seen her wear.
I have to admit she looks fucking hot, but even with a walking good time standing right in front of me, my eyes stray to find the one woman who always has my attention.
“Ehm,” Trixie clears her throat, frowning.
My gaze swings back to her, and I raise an eyebrow. No matter how familiar we might be in the sack, nobody has a claim on me. Trixie is cool and all, but she better watch herself. I don’t like that jealous shit.
“Anyways,” Trixie continues once she has my attention again. “Why don’t we head to your room for a little fun? We always have a good time, and it’s been awhile.”
Trixie runs her hand down my chest before fluttering her big brown eyes at me.
In my mind, I’m weighing my pros and cons.
If I go with Trixie, I won’t have to see Blue’s tight ass bouncing and dancing.
Maybe I can finally get some relief from the constant state of blue balls.
But if Blue sees me go off with another woman, especially Trixie, she’ll give me the cold shoulder again.
The last time she did that, it was weeks before she acknowledged my presence. Even though I’m one of the baddest motherfuckers in this clubhouse, my ass was miserable as hell. Only Blue has me by the balls without even trying.
Before I can answer Trixie, a loud, melodious laugh garners my attention. It’s like my eyes are connected to her by an invisible string. They find her without my say so, and when I see her, it’s like a red haze blocks my vision.
“Fuck no!”
