Chapter 13 Showing Him My Love
"Gu Chao Nan, take a deep breath. Look into my eyes."
He obeyed.
Warm yellow neon lights streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
They lit up the shine in his eyes and the way his shoulders dropped, like he was barely holding himself together.
I cupped his face.
"It's exactly because I love you so much that I decided to tell you this after the wedding."
"You were afraid I would leave you. I was afraid too—afraid you would hold my past against me."
Gu Chao Nan's wet eyes filled with confusion.
His throat moved.
"You know I would never think that way."
Of course I knew—or at least I was pretty sure.
It seemed like he would only sink into anxious, restless emotions.
Always terrified that I would leave him.
If it got worse, he might hurt himself again.
The only thing I could do was give him enough security.
"But I don't want anyone to affect our wedding."
"Aren't you curious about what I said to Xie Yi Heng?"
Gu Chao Nan's jaw tightened. He tilted his head back and stared at me.
"I told him I love Gu Chao Nan very much. I asked him to be a good person and not try to drive a wedge between us."
"Do you understand now how much I love you?"
His lashes trembled, as if he felt shy.
His whole body slumped against me like he had lost all strength. He buried his face and gave a muffled sound.
"Still worried?"
"Worried."
I let out a breath of relief.
He was acting spoiled now.
And I was more than happy to indulge him.
I leaned down and kissed his slightly cool earlobe.
"Then tonight… let me show you properly?"
Gu Chao Nan's arm muscles tensed instantly.
He carried me back to the room.
Eagerly seeking confirmation of my love for him.
I responded to him patiently, again and again.
The therapist said that a lover's hugs and kisses were the best medicine to heal each other.
While he found comfort, I also felt an indescribable happiness.
