Chapter Twenty-Two #2
Tommy, Fallon and Max are nowhere to be seen, obviously somewhere in this mansion of an apartment. Me and Gracie head over to Blair on the couch, taking off the killer shoes we’ve had on and getting comfortable.
“What a fucking night this turned out to be,” I say.
“Tell me about it. Some birthday this was,” Blair replies.
“Who’s birthday is it?” Max asks as he wanders into the room, taking a seat with us.
“No ones,” I say at the same time that the sisters throw me under the bus. “Maya’s.”
“Maymay! It’s your birthday and you didn’t tell us?” Max seems affronted I would dare to do such a thing.
“It’s your birthday? Today?” Tommy asks from behind us, an unreadable expression on his face. “I’m so sorry I didn’t realise,” Which he ends by side eyeing a guilty looking Fallon next to him.
“I didn’t want anyone to know,” I state, trying to avoid this whole conversation. Why is everyone but me bothered by my birthday today. I’d had it off the girls all week.
“Why? Birthdays are the best,” Max says.
“Because, I don’t have much to celebrate right now and don’t really want to go into it. I have enough shit going on,” I huff out. Why can’t they all just leave it alone. What is the point of celebrating another year of life when you don’t remember the rest.
“Fair enough. At least we had a good night until shit head had to cause a scene.”
I shouldn’t laugh, and I try to hold it in, but I can’t help it. Laughter bursts out of me, resulting in the others staring at me in shock. They must think I’ve finally lost the plot, maybe I have.
Their faces, looking at me so bewildered, make me laugh even more. It must be contagious as one by one they all start laughing too.
“You should see your faces,” I say, trying to catch my breathe. “What the hell is even happening. If I don’t laugh at this mess, I’ll cry. And no one wants me to cry on my birthday,” I pout, making us all laugh harder.
“Well at least Blair definitely had a good night,” Fallon winks at her, making her face turn beetroot red.
“Shut up right now,” She snarls, crossing her arms and turning away from her.
“It’s only because we’re jealous Blair,” I smile. “At least you got something out of tonight.”
Tommy sits down next to me on the couch, closer than a friend would usually sit. His thigh brushing against mine. Is it possible to feel this attracted to someone so quickly?
Out for coffee with Jack earlier, I did think he was good looking. He was ticking all of the boxes you would want when dating someone, but something was missing.
This feeling I have for Tommy, after barely even speaking to him, is like a fire has ignited inside of me, I can’t put my finger on what it is. He’s gorgeous, like ridiculously gorgeous, but it’s more than that, I’m drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
Tommy’s phone chimes, interrupting my thoughts just as there is a noise from the door. He checks his phone, showing me camera footage of the lift.
“The police are here,” He calls over his shoulder, as he goes to let them in.
I can hear mumbled voices, gradually getting louder as they enter to room. Bernie and Phil come into view, I smile warily and stand as they come over. The girls come and sit on the floor in front of me, making space for them. They are surrounding me like my own personal bodyguards.
“Are you okay Maya? We headed over as soon as we got word. We’ve been briefed over the phone but why don’t you tell us properly what’s happened,” Bernie says, as both men take a seat on the couch opposite me.
I explain in as much detail as I can, not that there was much to go on, and handed over the note. Both men study it, grave expressions on their faces.
“Okay, the main person we’re looking into is still Jake. We currently have officers at the club going through the cameras with the owner, but we have also sent someone over to your house, just as a precaution to scout around and make sure nothings a miss,” Phil tells me.
“We want you to know we’re doing everything we can to find him. We’ll take this back with us and see if there is anything forensics can find,” Bernie adds.
We chat back and forth for a few more minutes, as there’s not much else they can do other than take a statement right now.
“We’ll be in touch soon Maya. Stay safe,” They both say their goodbyes and head back the way they came.
“I don’t know about you lot, but I need my beauty sleep. It takes a lot to be this beautiful you know,” Max says, stretching his arms and ending it with a yawn.
“Where are we all sleeping? This seemed like a good idea until now,” Blair says grumpily. That girl and her sleep, In the short time I’ve known her, I’ve come to the realisation that sleep is a necessity to keeping her moods at bay. As well as food and sex.
“Have you seen this place? It’s huge. I’ll bunk with Maya, you and Gracie stick together and the boys can spoon together too,” Fallon tells her. Which results in an eye roll off Tommy.
“Nothing new there, this fucker loves sleeping in my bed,” He says gruffly.
“Because your room has a plug for my phone charger right next to the bed!” Max chides him. As if it’s an offence that the other rooms don’t have such a luxury.
“If you had told me that before, I would have got a socket fitted months ago to get you out of my room.”
“Ooo you love it really,” Max really is a wind up. Poor Tommy looks ready to smack him for it.
After grabbing some water, we all head to our designated rooms for the night. All of the drama from today has exhausted me. First Jack, then Tommy, then Jake, It’s too much for one girl to handle.
God, tomorrow I want to wake up fresh to a new day that’s drama free with no complications.
One can only hope.
