Chapter 355 Lucians Failed CEO Romance
Lucian went to the hospital for another checkup.
When Zara received the news, she stopped by the hospital to express her concern.
What she saw was Lucian sitting on the bed watching a movie, with an IV drip actually attached to his arm for once.
Zara looked surprised. "Lucian, what happened to you? Did Noctilion really bite you? Did you get the antivenom?"
Lucian was silent for a second.
"...Can't I just have a cold?"
Zara clicked her tongue twice. "It's hard for me to imagine someone like you getting a cold."
Lucian said nothing.
Wasn't getting sick a normal part of being human?
Still, he really rarely got sick. He had always been strong, and from childhood to adulthood, his immune system had been excellent. The usual childhood health worries had never really appeared in him.
It was only after his parents passed away that he developed his headaches.
Then came all the recent incidents.
And that sudden episode last time...
Thinking of it, Lucian's eyes darkened slightly.
Even now, he still had not found the cause of that episode.
He had privately asked specialists about it, but even they said they had never heard of anything like it.
If he truly had some serious illness, then a sudden episode like that should have been extremely alarming. Yet every examination showed there was nothing wrong with his body.
He had searched through all the relevant information he could find. The only thing he knew was that Zara had been busy handling matters in Country F around that time.
Otherwise, he might have suspected Zara had cursed him.
Outside the hospital room, the spirits were crowded together in a tight cluster.
Now that Lucian could see them, they were too embarrassed to squeeze inside and watch the drama up close.
They only dared to whisper outside the door.
Nicola watched Zara and Lucian chatting inside the hospital room and could not help sighing. "Not bad. They can actually have a normal conversation now. Looks like their relationship is progressing pretty fast."
Monica said, "Honestly, I really admire Boss Lady Zara's self-control. With someone like Lucian right in front of her, she still hasn't shown any sign of being tempted."
Robert fell silent for a moment. "She doesn't care about anyone except money."
Nicola looked at Robert. "That's not entirely true, is it? Your nephew is rich and handsome. Isn't that perfect? If she married him, wouldn't all her problems be solved?"
Abel finally found a chance to speak. "Married? You make it sound like his nephew is desperate. Even if Zara is willing to marry him, it's useless if he doesn't want to marry her."
The spirits nodded together. "That makes sense!"
Zara snapped from inside the room, "Can you damn people talk a little quieter? I can hear you!"
The spirits instantly scattered like startled birds.
Lucian had heard their discussion too. He gave a cold laugh. "They're not wrong. After all, I don't like you either."
That was a rather heart-piercing sentence.
If an ordinary man said that to a woman's face, someone with a fragile heart might have burst into tears on the spot.
But who was Zara?
Zara simply looked at Lucian with an expression of utter disbelief. Then she clicked her tongue twice, as if Lucian had just said something wildly delusional.
[Die early, you bastard. I'm waiting for your inheritance. Marry you? Keep dreaming.]
Lucian looked Zara up and down. "I really wonder what kind of unlucky bastard will end up marrying you someday."
Zara clicked her tongue. "What do you mean, unlucky? I'm great at making money. Anyone who marries me will live well. And if I actually love someone, I wouldn't mind keeping a pretty boy either."
Lucian could not tell whether he was annoyed or not. Either way, it felt as if a stone had slammed into his chest, leaving behind a strange, suffocating discomfort.
"Heh. Haven't you been single all these years too? No one has caught your eye for this long. You think someone will suddenly appear in the future?"
Mocking someone for being single since birth was honestly going too far.
Zara looked at Lucian and suddenly asked, "Other CEOs always have a whole lineup of ex-girlfriends. Where are yours?"
So far, Janet was the only one who had appeared, and she had merely played with him a little when they were children. Judging from Lucian's reaction, there had not even been a hint of romance.
[As a CEO, you are honestly kind of a failure.]
Lucian was silent for a second. "What do you know? Who has time to date while studying hard and taking over a company? Wouldn't that just waste time? I don't blame you, though. After all, you don't have a Martin Family Group to inherit, so of course you wouldn't understand my troubles."
Zara stiffened.
[Damn bastard. Showing off his wealth.]
This time, Zara was genuinely unconvinced. She could not help making a wild guess.
"Oh, really? But for a true genius, shouldn't those things be easy?
I understand that you were busy, of course.
But I don't believe you didn't even have time to date.
And even if romance was out of the question, normal people still have physical needs, right?
You didn't even have that kind of woman around? "
She leaned slightly closer, her tone turning suspiciously sincere.
"Lucian, tell me the truth. I won't laugh at you. Having a physical problem isn't that big of a deal..."
Lucian suddenly covered Zara's mouth with his hand. His fingers gripped her chin, and irritation flashed across his face. "Whether I'm good in bed is not something you get to guess at. Why don't you test it yourself?"
The spirits who had just returned to the doorway froze.
Zara froze too.
"Wow."
"Oh, my God."
"Ah... my nephew really has grown up."
"We came at the wrong time."
The spirits all started talking at once, each one sighing with deep, meaningful emotion.
Even Zara, who normally had no shame to speak of, could barely keep her composure now. "What the hell are you all babbling about?"
[That bastard ruined my innocence. It's over. My reputation is gone!]
Lucian withdrew his hand, feeling as if it had burned him.
Honestly, he had no idea how Zara could say things like that out loud. As a man, was he supposed to just tolerate it?
Nicola even began wiping imaginary tears. "Boss Lady Zara, life is short. You should enjoy it while you can. Don't be like me. I only ever got to hold a man's hand—"
Before she could enjoy anything more, she had died first.
It was truly one of the most tragic things in the world.
Then Monica suddenly added, "Actually, sometimes trying doesn't help either. That beast was a total two-pump chump."
Everyone fell silent.
The conversation had swerved so hard into adult territory that they were all starting to feel motion sick.
Shirley was silent too.
Cough. This was not a good time to join the conversation.
Several male spirits began coughing wildly. When it came to shamelessness, they actually lost to the women in front of them.
Lucian could not take it anymore either. "Get out. All of you."
Then he glared at Zara. "If you're done, you can leave too. I don't need you to visit me."
Zara stood up. "Fine. I came to visit you out of goodwill, and this is what I get? Looks like I really did hit your sore spot. No wonder you're embarrassed and angry."
Lucian was silent.
He wanted to hit her.
Zara left with great dignity, while the remaining spirits, crushed under Lucian's intense cold pressure, could only drift away in silence.
