Chapter 361 A Man and a Woman Alone
Lucian had definitely gone inside earlier to talk to Janet about Flora.
The fact that Janet could still come out so calmly proved that her mental fortitude really was not ordinary.
Zara simply did not know what kind of agreement Janet and Lucian had reached.
With only a wall between them, she could have listened if she wanted to. She just had not bothered.
Zara nodded and glanced at Janet. "You finished talking?"
Janet nodded, her smile carrying a hint of deeper meaning. "Please don't misunderstand. Lucian and I only went inside to discuss some work-related matters."
"...What am I supposed to misunderstand?" Zara truly did not care about things like that.
Seeing her reaction, Janet nodded. "As long as you didn't misunderstand."
Nicola was so furious that smoke was practically rising from her head. If she had been able to touch Janet, Monica probably would not have been able to hold her back.
"Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Isn't that exactly what a two-faced homewrecker would say? .'Please don't misunderstand.' A man and a woman alone together first thing in the morning! How is anyone supposed not to misunderstand?"
Monica was very calm. "I think Boss Lady Zara didn't misunderstand. You, on the other hand, are the non-human one who misunderstood."
Nicola glared at Monica. "All you ever do is pour cold water on me. Whose side are you on?"
"Yours, of course," Monica said. "But Boss Lady Zara clearly doesn't care. Besides, you know nothing could have happened between them in there. Why are you so worked up?"
"How can I not be worked up?" Nicola snapped. "Do I have to tell you that I'm their shipper now? I cannot tolerate any woman getting close to Uncle Robert's nephew!"
Everyone fell silent.
Janet, of course, could not see Nicola.
Zara knew the other world probably had its own hierarchy of ability. Someone like Janet was clearly not strong enough to see spirits. But she should at least be able to sense that something about the hospital was not right.
Just as Janet was about to say something else, Lucian came out.
He happened to be fastening the buttons of his trench coat, moving with a casual, unhurried air. At a glance, he looked exactly like someone who had just finished sex that could easily be misunderstood.
Janet glanced at Lucian, then said to Zara, "Since everything is settled, I'll leave first. When I have time, I'll invite both of you out for dinner. I've been rather busy lately."
A faint smile curved Lucian's lips. "Take care."
Janet nodded, then smiled at Zara. "Goodbye, Zara."
"Goodbye," Zara replied.
After Janet left, Nicola spoke from the side. "Ah, first thing in the morning, a man and a woman alone together. Anyone who didn't know better would think something happened inside."
Her meaning was far too obvious.
Lucian turned to look at Nicola. When he looked at people coldly, he still carried a considerable amount of pressure. Aside from Zara, who feared nothing, Nicola and Monica were still somewhat intimidated by him.
Then they heard Lucian say in a cold voice, "What does that have to do with you?"
Monica quickly signaled Nicola not to speak.
Although Lucian seemed fairly decent toward Uncle Robert and the others, his temper had never been that good.
Aside from Uncle Robert and Zara, he rarely showed much warmth to anyone.
Uncle Robert was different, of course. Their relationship was special.
As for Zara, there was simply nothing he could do about her.
But strictly speaking, these spirits had nothing to do with him. If they meddled too much, he would find them annoying.
The atmosphere seemed to freeze.
Nicola wanted to speak but did not quite dare.
Then Zara's slow voice drifted over from the side.
"Actually, you can't put it that way. If something really did happen..." She clicked her tongue. "Lucian, your speed in bed is way too fast."
Lucian, "..."
Nicola, "..."
Monica, "..."
Boss Lady Zara truly was ruthless.
In front of the two spirits, Lucian could not exactly make a move.
He slowly narrowed his eyes at Zara. Then, all of a sudden, he laughed.
"Whether I'm fast or not in bed, shouldn't you know better than anyone? Didn't you say last time that you were very satisfied?"
Zara froze.
[What absolute bullshit!]
But when Nicola and Monica heard that, they were stunned.
The two spirits trembled as they stared at Zara in disbelief. "So you two already..."
Already crossed the line in secret!
Zara quickly said, "No. Don't. Don't listen to his nonsense. Do you really think—"
Lucian sighed faintly. "It wasn't like I wanted it either. If I hadn't been drunk..."
"Oh, my God!"
The two spirits screamed in excitement and immediately floated out of the room.
Zara turned to Lucian.
The look in her eyes made it seem as if she were staring at a dead man. Then she slowly spoke, her voice low and dangerous.
"Lucian, the doctor said your illness is definitely incurable, right? You only have a few months left. Can you please die obediently according to schedule?"
Lucian replied, "No, darling. For you, I'm willing to struggle on for several more decades."
Zara fell silent.
She took a deep breath.
This time, she really could not hold back. She was about to unleash a very familiar string of curses. In fact, she had already started cursing him in her head.
But just as the words were about to leave her mouth, Lucian stepped forward and covered her mouth with his hand.
In a low voice, he said, "You're still a girl, after all. Don't swear. It isn't very ladylike."
Zara moved quickly, prying his hand away and twisting it hard behind him.
Lucian immediately stepped back. Following the direction of her twist, he turned his wrist and slipped out of her grip.
Zara had not used much real strength. She only looked at him and said, "Lucian, has anyone ever told you that you're actually pretty shameless?"
Lucian said, "No. Ever since I met you, I've felt that I'm practically the kindest, purest, and most beautiful person in the world."
Zara stared at him.
[Heh.]
Lucian smiled back. "Heh."
Since neither side reached any kind of agreement, Zara gave a cold snort and changed the subject. "Did you find out where Flora is?"
Lucian raised an eyebrow. "I know where Flora is. The problem is that Janet won't hand her over. There are some things I can't push too hard on yet. It seems they really do have some kind of purpose. At the very least, Flora can't die right now."
Zara waved a hand. "Forget it. I don't care about your mess. But if you want me to take action, you know the rules."
She packed up her clothes and prepared to leave. As she did, she added, "Keep an eye on Noctilion. I think that dragon isn't simple. Not in terms of strength. He just looks like the same kind of jerk as you."
Lucian said, "I'll give you one chance. Swear on the house I bought for you, and repeat that last sentence."
Zara immediately threw him a sweet, flirtatious look. "I was only joking. Don't you know I love you the most?"
[You're an idiot. Once I get rich, I'm absolutely going to settle this grudge!]
Lucian smiled coldly in his heart.
She would never be richer than him. Because she did not have the intelligence for it.
Of course, Lucian was not foolish enough to say something that provocative out loud.
Instead, he only said, "You're going back? Wait a while. Go have breakfast with Great-Grandma first. You can leave after that."
Zara froze. "Lucian, you need to understand that the few million dollars Uncle Robert paid me are not worth this level of sacrifice."
Lucian said, "I'll add another million."
Zara instantly straightened. "Where is Great-Grandma? I'll go see her right now!"
Money was truly a wonderful thing.
Boss Lady Zara didn't bend for petty sums—but add just a little more, and suddenly, everything was worth negotiating.
