Chapter 394 Peters Secret

Peter covered his face, looking utterly distraught. "Zara, are they going to send me to some special government facility for testing? Was Wilson right? Am I hallucinating?"

Zara fell silent.

She placed a fingertip against Peter and listened carefully for a moment.

Sure enough, she sensed a trace of energy that had yet to dissipate.

Under Zara's probing, the power seemed to react to her vital essence. It suddenly surged toward her fingertip.

Zara quickly pulled her hand away.

With a loud bang, a transparent burst of energy shot past her and slammed into the white wall behind her.

A massive hole appeared in the wall.

A nearby medical worker screamed in fright.

Chaos immediately spread across the entire floor.

Zara fell silent.

So did Peter.

He abruptly covered his face again. "There really is something wrong with me!"

Zara had no response.

He stared at her in terror. "Zara, what was that? What the hell is inside me?"

"It's hard to say," Zara replied quietly. "It seems to be some kind of energy."

Inside Peter, she could sense a sleeping, snow-white cub.

It was curled tightly into itself, making its full shape impossible to discern. All she could make out was a face resembling that of a lion.

Its entire body was pure white, and it was actually rather beautiful.

There was no need to tell Peter any of that, however.

He was emotionally fragile enough as it was. He would never survive the shock.

Zara remained remarkably calm.

It appeared that her younger siblings truly were all unusual. Perhaps some unseen force really had guided her to them when she adopted them.

There had been countless orphans, yet she had somehow chosen these particular children.

For the moment, however, Zara had no intention of examining Karen or Wilson.

Karen hardly needed an examination. The amount she ate was already abnormal enough.

Peter was trembling all over. "Zara, am I possessed by something?"

Zara fell silent.

Peter knew there was something unusual about his sister, but he still had no idea the Divine World existed. The moment she mentioned energy, he assumed something was wrong with him.

He had been watching too many supernatural dramas lately and was convinced he had picked up some evil spirit.

In a movie he had recently seen, the hero had been possessed by a powerful entity, turned into a monster, and eventually been riddled with bullets by the heroine.

No...

Peter did not have a heroine.

But he had a feeling his own sister might be the one to gun him down.

He did not want that!

Seeing him panic, Zara gave him a smack. "Calm down. It's not what you think, and it isn't a big deal. Get some rest for the next few days. Just pretend nothing happened, and don't tell Nancy or the others. There's no need to worry them."

Peter nodded nervously. "I'm not going to die, am I?"

"No. I'm here, so you'll be fine. Just don't tell anyone about this. I'm less worried about some evil spirit than I am about the government hauling you away and dissecting you for research."

Peter fell silent.

He was never telling anyone.

Once they finished talking, Zara went back into the hospital room.

Hugo smiled when he saw them enter. "What were you two talking about?"

Peter was too oblivious to notice the slight probing note in Hugo's voice, but Zara caught it immediately.

Hugo must have seen something.

Peter had thrown himself in front of Hugo during the crash. Was it really possible that Hugo had not noticed anything unusual?

Peter offered a perfectly reasonable excuse. "Nothing. I just got scared thinking about the accident again."

Hugo beckoned him over and gently patted his head. "It's all right. Nothing happened to us, so you don't need to be afraid."

Zara fell silent.

She turned to Hugo. "You really didn't see anything back then?"

Hugo looked at her with a calm, gentle smile. "What are you hoping I saw, Zara? I honestly didn't see anything."

Zara nodded. "All right. At least you know what not to say."

Hugo fell silent.

So did Peter.

Why did it sound as though Zara had just threatened Hugo?

"Since Hugo got hurt because of you, you're responsible for looking after him for the next few days," Zara said. "Let me know when he's discharged. I'll come by when I have time, but I need to head home now. There are only two kids there."

Peter and Hugo nodded at the same time.

Then Peter remembered something. "Zara, there's no need to tell the others about the accident. I don't want them worrying."

"I know."

With that, Zara left.

On her way home, she carefully considered the shape of the creature she had sensed inside Peter.

She needed an encyclopedia of mystic beasts from the Divine World.

Otherwise, she would not even know what species it was.

When she arrived home, however, she found that Nancy had returned as well.

Nancy was sitting in the living room smoking. The moment she saw Zara, she stubbed out the cigarette.

"Zara, did something happen today?"

Zara raised an eyebrow. "No. Why?"

Nancy looked puzzled. "I sensed something unusual earlier. It felt like something had appeared, but I couldn't tell what it was."

Zara fell silent.

Apparently, Nancy had sensed Peter's awakening.

"It's nothing serious," Zara said. "Peter was just in a car accident..."

Before she could finish, Karen came out of her room.

"What? Peter was in a car accident?! Is it serious? How much time does he have left? Oh my God..."

Zara fell silent.

So did Nancy.
