Chapter Seven.

Falcon

“That shocked you.” The guy chuckled. Then he stopped. “What are you doing with this number? Where is Myka, Falcon?”

“Who the hell is this?”

“We’ve got a mutual friend. Where are Myka and Jayes?”

“Ain’t saying until you identity yourself.”

“Not happening. Don’t phone again. This line will be disconnected. Goodbye.”

“Wait! Myka’s in a coma. Dawson flipped.”

Silence met my words, and I wondered if I’d been cut off. I pulled the cell away and checked.

“Where is Jayes?”

“With me. Who are you? How do you know who I am?” I demanded.

“Call back in an hour. If you’re late, I’ll break the SIM card.”

The line went dead, and I stared at my phone in disbelief. Frustrated, I turned on my heel and headed towards Calamity’s office. The Prez needed to be told about this.

Calamity nodded for me to call, and I hit the redial button. It rang for three beats before it was picked up.

“Falcon. We’re heading to Ortonville to collect Jayes,” a woman said.

“Nah, you ain’t. Who are you?” I replied. Who the hell were they? How had they known who I was?

“Jayes is under our protection,” she retorted. “You’ve no right.”

“And you do?”

“The legal guardian papers we have to say yes.”

“Where were you when Myka had the shit beaten out of her? Didn’t see you then. No way am I handing Jayes over. Think you’re bad enough, then come and try,” I taunted.

“Okay, Andrea, I’ll take this from here,” a man said. “Falcon, Calamity, this is Tanner Parks. Please don’t deny Calamity isn’t listening in.”

The name dropped, and it took a few seconds to realise who they were.

Calamity’s eyes narrowed. “Darren’s Guardian Angels. That’s why your response was delayed the first time. You traced Falcon’s number.”

“You’ve heard of us,” Tanner stated.

“Bit hard not to after you hid a brother’s woman,” Calamity said.

A few years back, Shee from Hellfire MC had wrongly accused Sallie-Anne of kidnapping his son and had set about to destroy her life.

He’d been very successful until Sallie-Anne showed her true colours and saved a bunch of kids in a fire.

But when Shee wanted to make amends, she’d disappeared.

Andrea Parks and her siblings had kidnapped Sallie-Anne right out from Hellfire’s nose and had hidden and protected her from Shee.

After losing their son, Darren, to a violent spouse, the Parks had sworn never to abandon someone needing support again. Tanner, his wife, and children had all teamed up and offered a sanctuary and help in getting away from abusive relationships.

“Yes, well, Banshee needed a lesson teaching, and he got one,” Tanner stated calmly. “I need an update on Myka Beauregard.”

Calamity nodded at me.

“She’s currently in a coma after being beaten nearly to a pulp. Sheriff Cates has removed several samples of foreign matter and has sent them for testing. The sheriff’s hoping for DNA,” I replied.

“And why are you involved?” Tanner demanded.

I explained everything, and there was silence.

“Are you there?” Calamity asked.

“Send Falcon the guardianship for Jayes,” a different woman said.

“Minnie…”

“Do it, Tanner. Falcon, the name line, denoting who legally becomes Jayes’s guardian should Myka be incapacitated, is blank. Fill yours in, and you’ve got legal rights. We’ll mail it immediately. Don’t let Dawson Beauregard near Jayes. The man is worse than an animal,” Minnie ordered.

“If Myka wakes, have her contact us. She knows how, or reach out to Chance Michaelson. Chance has my direct cell. Good luck and keep us updated,” Tanner said and cut the line.

“You won’t be able to reach them on that number again. Tanner will burn it,” Calamity drawled, tapping his fingers on his desk. “Where are you going with this, Falcon?”

“Not sure. I can’t allow Jayes to go into care or return to the Beauregards. Cates has told me what scum they are. Jayes deserves better!”

“Not disagreeing. As soon as that document comes through, sign the paper and you ain’t gotta worry about legal shit. You’ve got physio, ain’t ya?”

“Yeah, Prez. At the same hospital Myka’s in. Watch Jayes?”

“Sure. I’ll keep Jayes until you’re back. Be warned, the old ladies are shopping.” Calamity chuckled.

Oh, I understood completely what that meant. Damn. “I’ll get a prospect to clear the room opposite me.” It was currently being used for storage.

“I’ll do that; you sneak out. Jayes might be upset if he sees you go.”

I headed out. God forbid I were late to my appointment.

“Just what is your problem?” I spat fifty minutes later. Skye Golding turned with her usual sneer.

“I beg your pardon?”

“Beg all you want, Skye, but I wanna know why you’re being such a cunt!” I snapped.

“Mind your language!”

“The fuck I will. I’m done with your shit and baggage.

Clearly, you’ve got an issue, and you don’t have the balls to say what to my face.

Fine, I’ll report your attitude to your superior and request a new physio.

I’m damn sure my trainers won’t be amused.

It’s quite obvious you’re not professional. ”

“Go ahead, ruin my life, just like always!” Skye yelled.

“I’ve never met you until now, you stupid cunt!” I shouted back. We were toe to toe, and the hatred rolling off her was shocking.

People stopped and stared, horrified at the scene playing out.

“Liar!” Skye shrieked.

“What the fuck? I don’t know you, you crazy bitch!”

“Timothy Chambers!” Skye hissed.

Confused, I blinked and racked my brain. The name rang a bell, but I couldn’t place it.

“God, you set Tim up to take the fall for your drug use, and you don’t even recall him!”

“Wait, a moment. Chambers got kicked off the Olympic team for drug use? I remember now, what the fuck are you suggesting?”

“Asshole, you put your drugs in Tim’s bag, and he was caught!” Skye yelled again.

“The hell I did! Did he tell you why he was removed? Timothy tested positive for cocaine. That’s why he was booted,” I retorted hotly.

No way would I have drugs linked to my name.

“I’ve had fifteen random drug tests since I became a pro, and I’ve not failed a single one.

I had a medical the same day as Timothy; mine was negative.

Watch your mouth with these lies, or I’ll sue for slander! Fuck you, shall we do a test now?”

“That’s enough!” Joe Mathers—the senior therapist—said, approaching fast. “Miss Golding, please go wait in my office at once.”

Skye marched off. “You’re a liar, and the entire world will realise that now. Take one right now, I bet you won’t!” Skye shouted.

Angrily, I spun to Joe. “Get me a damn test.”

“You don’t need to do that, Falcon…” Joe began.

“Yeah, I do, because these assholes are recording this. If I don’t do a test immediately, I’m gonna look guilty.

That cunt has just thrown my professional reputation into question.

As a fuckin’ hospital, you have proper tests.

Get sealed packages, because I don’t trust you fuckers not to tamper with it!

Actually, bring me at least fifteen, and I’ll pick two random ones.

Because I seriously don’t rate this shithole right now. ”

I was fuming. “Who wants to watch and make sure I piss in this myself? And I won’t be fuckin’ filmed pissing either.” Nobody volunteered. “Come on, you fuckers were happy to post that shit, now finish this.”

“Falcon, I’ll do it,” a physio said. Two others stepped up, too. “One more.” A patient waved his hand, and I headed to the john with them. I stood at the urinals, my face burning as I pissed into two containers. We marched out together, and I placed both tests on a chair.

After ten minutes we checked, and I held them up. “Both negative. Put that on your fuckin’ social media.” I spun on Joe. “Joe, I want Skye sacked, or I’m suing the hospital for Skye’s slander and the result of it. I’ve never felt so degraded.”

With that, I walked away, furious beyond belief. My phone buzzed, and it was Calamity.

“Luca’s all over that shit-show.”

“Never been so fuckin’ humiliated.”

“Hate to tell you, brother, someone filmed you pissing. He didn’t catch your cock in a picture… but yeah. He put a voiceover saying this was proof you pissed in it yourself. Then recorded those with you, and they’ve got phones out showing the time and date. Guess he was covering your back.”

“Fuckin’ loathe social media,” I hissed as I saw people glancing once and looking away before staring.

“There are a million views, and it’s been fifteen minutes. It’s gone viral.”

“Wonderful. Get Luca on that bitch and sue her ass. I want Skye’s licence; everything.”

“Already in process, Veep.” I hoped so because my phone was blowing up.

“Can you speak to the club? Because I can’t,” I asked, and Calamity made a distressed noise.

“Got your back, brother,” he said and cut the call.

Trying to ignore the looks, I headed to Myka. Luckily, she had a private room. The nurses stared as I signed in. Let them fuckin’ look.

“Falcon?” a nurse said, holding my eyes. “What you just did was brave.”

“Brave? It was embarrassing and humiliating.”

“No. You shut Skye up, and what a goddamn bitch she was. Be proud of your actions,” she murmured, leading me to Myka. Somehow that was easier said than done.

I entered the room, and my embarrassment and humiliation melted as I caught sight of Myka. The anger remained, though, hot and ready to blast someone.

“Hey, girl. Guess I thought I had things bad, but you sure as hell put perspective on shit,” I said, grabbing a chair.

Myka lay unresponsive in the bed.

“It’s been two days since I walked into that basement, Myka.

You’ve been unconscious for nearly a week.

Someday, sweet lady, you’ve gotta wake up.

You’ve got Jayes, and he misses his mom.

He’s a great kid; you did well, despite the environment Jayes was growing up in.

I wanna hear from you what happened. How the hell did a classy broad like you end up with that monster? Nobody seems to know the answer.”
