Chapter Seven. #2
I sat back and stared. “You’re gorgeous, do you understand that?
Even under the bruising, welts, and cuts, your beauty stands out.
Dawson had a diamond and spat on it. Man’s gotta be crazy.
Men would kill for a beautiful babe like you, including me.
Myka, I’m the Veep of my club. And within the inner circle, that’s those who run the club; I’m one of only four single men.
It’s fuckin’ lonely. I eye my brothers, and they’re such lucky assholes.
When they go home, they’ve got someone to share shit with.
Me. I got a damn mirror, and that doesn’t offer any comfort.
“Plus, I’m not interested in the women who hang around.
They’re club sluts of the worst kind. Drop their panties, take a man bare, and trap him into pregnancy because they want money and protection.
That ain’t you. Deep down, I already know that.
You’re the type of woman a guy breaks his back for and walks over burning coals just to get you to take a chance on him. Dawson’s a fuckin’ prick.”
Amused, I snorted. “Listen to me bleating on like a loser. You’re trapped here and can’t escape.
A captive hostage to my self-pity. I’m twenty-two and wanna settle down.
Most men my age are out clubbing and partying.
Not me. Myka, I’m a gold medallist several times over for swimming, and I’m a unicorn in the fact that I compete in a separate event.
I’ve medals for Ju-Jitsu, too. And what I really want is a woman to come home to, eat dinner and shoot the shit with.
“You’d think I’m not asking for much. But it feels like I’m trying to reach for the moon because I ain’t nobody’s meal ticket.
And just now, this bullshit. Christ. People always attempt to drag you down.
They can’t let anyone have something that they earned.
Nope. Gotta try to take it away. Guess that’s what happened with Nova; she’s the other half of my soul, my twin sister.
There ain’t nothing we wouldn’t do for each other.
“But an asshole hurt Nova, just like one did you. What is it with those fools? They get a woman any man would die to call their own and treat them like shit. You, Nova, my cousin. Yeah, I’ve a super-famous cousin who’s also got an asshole treating her like she’s a dumb broad.
It’s a secret from her family because Drake would cap his ass.
Yup, straight up make the motherfucker disappear. ”
I drew a deep breath and stared out the window.
“Gotta say, Myka. That’s a hell of a kid you raised.
Smart, polite, caring; anyone would be proud to call Jayes son.
He loves animals; did you know that? Bet Dawson wouldn’t let him have a pet.
But yeah, Jayes has a sweet touch with them.
I’ve a rescue dog, a German Shepherd called Star, and she’s got nine puppies. You should see Jayes…”
“Jayes,” a soft croak interrupted. My gaze shot to the bed, and a pair of blue eyes stared at me.
“Myka, Jayes is safe,” I stated, leaning forward.
“Where?”
“He’s at the Rage clubhouse, surrounded by bikers. Nobody’s going to get close,” I assured her.
“Seen you before.”
“Yeah, I brought Jayes home when he twisted his ankle.”
Tears trickled down Myka’s face, and I wiped them carefully away, mindful of the bruises.
“Hurt?”
“No. Jayes is fine and safe, I swear on my cut. Honey, you contacted the Parks. Tanner sent me the papers for legal custody, and I put my name down. Didn’t want anyone to take Jayes away while you were so injured,” I explained.
“If someone asks, I’m Falcon Blackelk, and you gave me guardianship, or child services might take Jayes.
They’ll say you’re too ill to care for him. ”
Myka
The moment he walked into the room, I’d been aware.
I’d been conscious for several hours but played dumb because I wanted to gauge the situation.
I was terrified one of the Beauregards would be present.
Instead, nurses came and went, and then this biker appeared.
I recognised his voice from when he brought Jayes home.
When Falcon began rambling, I listened carefully. Falcon was a good person. Something had upset him, I could tell, but Falcon kept talking, and I liked that. He wasn’t shy in discussing his feelings, although I had to wonder if he’d be so honest if he knew I was awake.
When he spoke about Nova, I could hear his pain. Falcon hurt for her and this unknown cousin. He hated the men who were hurting them. But when he mentioned Jayes, I’d been unable to stay quiet. Falcon had news about my son, and I needed it.
“You took Jayes?” I was confused. Why?
“Yeah. Long story, Myka and I’ll explain, but we need to get the docs. You’ve been in a coma.”
Falcon’s words struck deep, and I panicked. “How long?”
“Myka…”
“Please?” I bit out, grabbing his wrist.
“In total, six, nearly seven days.”
I released Falcon in shock, and he pressed the bell for the nurse. I stared in horror. Had Falcon had Jayes a week? My son. My baby boy, oh God, I bet Jayes was so scared. Tears choked me as I imagined how confused Jayes must be.
“Hey, it’s okay, Myka. Trust me. Jayes is perfectly safe,” Falcon whispered, stroking my hair away from my face and guessing correctly what was upsetting me.
“Swear it!”
“I do. Just stay with me. The sheriff will be called. Once everyone has gone home, I’ll explain everything. Remember, you authorised me to be Jeyes’ guardian in case anything happened to you.”
Silently, I jerked my head in a nod and regretted it as pain shot through me. Falcon made a snarling noise, stood up, and opened the door.
“Myka’s awake and in pain!” he bellowed. Falcon came and waited at the end of the bed as a nurse finally appeared.
“I’ll call the doctor!” she exclaimed.
Hurry up, I thought, because I needed to know what was happening.
I eyed Sheriff Cates carefully. She’d been called by a doctor and had arrived five minutes ago. Sheriff Cates had asked Falcon to leave, but I’d panicked; he was my link to Jayes, and she’d relented. Falcon now sat watching us.
“Myka, it’s good to see you awake.”
“Thanks, Sheriff Cates.”
“Call me Elianna, Myka, please. I was anxious about you.”
“Not as much as me,” I quipped, but it fell flat.
“Can you tell me what happened? Did you see your attacker?”
Alarm raced through me, and I rose, crying out in pain. “You don’t have them in custody?” I screeched.
“No. When you were found, you were alone,” Elianna replied.
“I was beaten and nearly raped by Dawson, Lawson, and Rawson Beauregard,” I stated shakily. “And if you’ve not arrested them, then Jayes is in danger!”
“They won’t get into the clubhouse,” Falcon promised me. “Look, I’ve already sent Calamity a text telling him to lock Jayes down. He’ll bring Jayes inside and put four prospects on him. My brothers will stop those three from getting in.”
I nodded and breathed a little. Elianna’s eyes shot back and forth between us. I could see that she was confused.
“Myka, can you tell me what happened that evening?” the sheriff finally inquired.
I began by explaining about Jayes being injured and Falcon coming and how it put Dawson in a bad mood.
I explained how they’d drunk nearly two twenty-four packs of beer alongside a bottle of cheap whiskey.
Elianna asked a few questions, and I answered them.
Then I started saying how Rawson wanted me to dance like a stripper.
Elianna remained impassive, but I felt fury rolling off Falcon.
His hands were clenched into fists on his thighs.
I continued, looking at the wall, and switched off.
I clinically spoke about Rawson ripping my dress off and then dragging me into the basement.
There was no doubt the three of them had intended rape, but I’d fought.
Somehow, I’d managed to get hold of Lawson’s balls and had yanked so hard he’d passed out.
Dawson tore my underwear off, and I began scratching and biting like a wildcat.
Rawson was trying to herd me, but I kept fighting.
I’d raked Rawson’s face with my nails. Dawson backed away at that point, but I’d kicked him hard.
He’d dropped too, but that triggered Rawson’s rage, and he’d knocked me down and kicked and stamped on me.
I remembered punching out to escape, then glanced towards my arm.
It was in a cast. How had I missed that?
Elianna carefully questioned me, and Falcon sat there, anger boiling and taking it all in. But somehow I’d survived and hadn’t been raped as they’d intended. Now I wanted them locked up, and the key thrown away. Then Jayes and I were getting the hell out of Dodge.
