Chapter 40

Chapter Forty

Mila

It’s been a month since the wedding, and it feels like I’m living in a dream.

Life just can’t be this good, right? Shawn is almost done working in my apartment.

The floors are finally installed, and the cabinets are almost done being replaced.

My bathroom has already been tackled, and there is no longer a tarp of supplies residing there.

Thank God I have renter’s insurance. The guys reopened their shop, and they’ve all been busy catching up on clients.

Kash works pretty much every day except Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. It’s the time he’s carved out every week for us. He still wakes up before me most days, and we chat over breakfast before I have to leave to open the shop with Mara.

Twin Roasts is as busy as ever, especially now the days are getting warmer. Mara is out this afternoon, so it’s just me and Joelle manning the shop. Fortunately, the rush just died down, and we can take a minute to breathe. Checking my phone, I find two new messages from Kash.

Future Husband: I love what I do, but is it time to go home yet?

Future Husband: Did you know that women burn about 69 calories during sex? Coincidence??

Sometimes I don’t know if he wants a response to his questions, or if he’s just bored, but either way I laugh, then get back to work, all the while wondering if I know any random facts I could share.

It’s close to three, and I need to figure out if I have to make more baked goods for the last part of the day.

Anytime we have leftovers, we try to sell our bread at a discount or donate it to the local women’s shelter.

If anyone deserves something good, it’s those women.

Sometimes I make a bit extra just because I know it’ll end up there.

“Is it closing time yet?” Joelle jokes, bumping her hip with mine.

Reorganizing the case a bit, I laugh. “Not quite. Sorry, buddy.”

Groaning dramatically, Joelle gives me a curious expression. “Have you guys found anyone else to help with morning prep? I feel bad because I’m here with Mara while you run around in the back all day long.”

Nodding, I wipe down the counters, keeping myself occupied. “Yeah. We just hired a new girl—Kate. She’s starting with me tomorrow.”

“Oh, perfect. We could definitely use the help.”

“Agreed.” Chucking the cloth back into the sanitizer bucket, I stretch out my back. Kash kept me up late again last night. I swear that man never stops. He’s always touching me, kissing me, holding me—really, any excuse he can use to touch me, he takes it. Not that I’m complaining.

I was reaching for a bowl in the cabinet the other day, and he came up behind me and reached above my head to grab it.

He purposefully pressed his muscular chest against my back and took the bowl down ridiculously slowly.

Needless to say, I ended up on the counter, and it wasn’t with any of my clothes.

Flushing, I pull out my phone and find a few new messages from him.

Future Husband: Is it time to go home yet? I miss you.

Future Husband: My last appointment should be done by eight.

Future Husband: Rhett is getting on my nerves.

Five minutes later.

Future Husband: Scratch that. Seth is getting on my nerves.

Future Husband: Did you know the clit has over 10,000 nerves? Can I get on each one of yours?

Future Husband: I need a hug. Can I use your thighs?

Good lord. Shoving my phone back in my pocket, I avoid answering.

I don’t even know how to respond to him sometimes.

Kash’s personality ranges from goofball to pervert depending on how the day goes.

Sometimes I forget that he’s actually in his twenties and not a teenager.

He’s not always goofy though. Last week when we were relaxing on the couch, he asked me about how business was doing.

He remembered the issue we were having with one of our vendors and was curious about how we source some of our produce and supplies.

He has a connection for a local farmer, and they were able to get us a better price than what Andrew wanted. Once our contract expired, we moved on, and it’s worked out really well so far.

Kash is also thoughtful. Not only does he keep my favorite products stocked in the apartment, but he hung up the canvas from our first date in the bakery as promised. It rests above the wall close to the kitchen door so that every time I walk past it, I’m reminded of our art lesson.

Sometimes I switch it up and take Kash something to eat for dinner. He’s not hard to please, but I know that his work is important to him at the shop. The guys built something amazing, and I want him to know he has my support. It also gives me time to talk to Cora.

She’s happy for us but warned me to be careful with him. “He may act like he’s not bothered by things, but Kash has a sweet soul, Mils.”

I have no intention of hurting him, even if there’s the occasional doubt that creeps in. When it gets quiet and I’m sitting around the apartment, wondering if it’s too good to be true, I scold myself. Kash has shown me over and over again that he’s all in, and I need to start believing it.

By doubting things, I’m not being fair to him, or to us.

We’re supposed to have dinner with my parents tonight, and I’m a bit nervous about it. We haven’t all been together since the wedding, and my dad caught us kissing another time after the first. I don’t want him to hate Kash, but he hasn’t said much, and that isn’t like him.

“How do you feel about dinner tonight?” Joelle asks, leaning against the counter.

“I think we’ll be okay. I mean, it’s not like they don’t already know him a bit,” I point out. “He works with Cora and was at their wedding. We even saw them back at Christmas.”

“True, but you guys weren’t an item then. He wasn’t in your pants like he is now.” Joelle smirks.

She’s not wrong. Just thinking about the way he had me bent over the bed yesterday has me blushing.

I was trying to fold laundry and instead of doing it in my room, I chose to do it in his.

I haven’t even slept in my bed since the first time we slept together.

Little by little, Kash has been moving my stuff in next to his.

I wasn’t expecting him to be home for a while, so when he snuck in behind me, it scared me. He of course made up for that

“Don’t do that! Why are you home? I thought you had clients until seven.”

“I knew you were home and wanted to see you because I had a break in between.”

How did he know I was home? I don’t remember telling him my plans for the day.

“Oh. Well, since you’re here you can help.” I toss a T-shirt at his chest, which he catches easily.

“I have a better idea.” He smiles. Grabbing my face, he slants his mouth over mine and kisses me senseless. My body immediately ignites, and I wonder if his touch will always have this effect on me. Probably.

Pushing me back over the pile of laundry, Kash pulls my leggings down along with my panties.

He wastes no time diving between my thighs, tossing my legs over his broad shoulders.

Within minutes I’m coming on his face and being flipped over to my stomach.

My feet are hanging over the bed, and I’m lying on the pile of clothes I was folding, inhaling their clean scent when Kash slams into me from behind.

“Fuck, you feel amazing.” He slaps my butt, gripping my cheek in one hand. “So fucking good, Mila.”

Kash takes me roughly from behind, and every time he thrusts into me, the bed squeaks and moves a bit from the force.

Biting out a laugh, I giggle at the ridiculousness of it. Ten minutes ago, I was folding laundry; now I’m being fucked on it.

His thrusts slow down, and he pulls out until just the tip is inside me. “Is something funny about the way I fuck you, Sweet Girl?” His hand snakes around my front to play with my clit, making me squirm.

“No. I swear I wasn’t laughing at you. Please,” I whine.

“If you’re coherent enough to giggle, I guess I’m not doing it right. We’ll see who gets the last laugh.”

By the time he finished, I had to put the rest of the unfolded clothes back in the washer.

There was no way I could put them away after the way he fucked me on top of them.

“Has she been like this for a while?” Mara’s voice interrupts my replay.

Laughing, Joelle nods. “I don’t know what happens in her life, but I’m probably better off not knowing.”

Making a face, Mara nods, her dark ponytail bouncing. “Yeah, no thanks.”

“Leave it alone. It’s not what you think,” I lie.

“Yeah, and I’m the nice twin.”

“Whatever.” I brush past her to the kitchen.

Staring at the canvas on the wall, I just pray tonight goes well. I don’t have time to think about Mara’s issues. My boyfriend is having dinner with my parents. Everything will be fine. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
