Chapter 11 Finally Saying the Words
We returned to the President Office once again.
He Yuheng never once let go of my hand.
I let him hold it silently, racking my brain for something to say.
In the end, I only managed, “Thank you for what just happened.”
He lowered his eyes to look at me.
I pressed my lips together and forced out another sentence. “I misunderstood you yesterday. I’m sorry. I should have asked you first.”
He pulled me down to sit, still holding my hand.
I could even feel how hot his palm was.
He Yuheng seemed… nervous.
I was too. I started rambling. “So Jiang Xue was the one who sent me that anonymous letter. But she hasn’t been pregnant these past few months. I never saw any sign of it…”
“Maybe she miscarried,” He Yuheng guessed.
“Yeah, that makes sense,” I said softly. “I just don’t understand why she hates me so much.”
“Sang Wan.”
He Yuheng suddenly called my name.
I tensed instinctively. “Hm?”
“Do you think the way things were between us before was good?”
He didn’t spell it out, but I knew exactly what he meant.
Two strangers forced to live under the same roof, sleeping in separate rooms, no hand-holding, no hugs, no kisses—like roommates sharing an apartment, except the nightstand drawer held two marriage certificates.
He Yuheng said, “I think it was bad.”
He released my hand and instead knelt in front of me, resting his hands on my knees.
“I originally planned to wait until you were used to me. I didn’t want you to resist me. I wanted you to slowly accept having me in your life… but now I feel that was too slow.”
“Sang Wan, I don’t want you to misunderstand me.”
He Yuheng spoke with visible frustration. “Last night I was terrified. You ignored me and I panicked. I was afraid my Profile Picture change had upset you. I was terrified I had offended you—especially after learning it started as a bet. I was so scared you would leave me because of it.”
“But I never imagined you were ignoring me because of a misunderstanding.”
He Yuheng stared straight into my eyes.
“If you’re willing to get to know me, you’ll see there will never be anyone else. Sang Wan, you should have that confidence. As my wife, you should have even more of it.”
Only then did it hit me. “He Yuheng… are you confessing?”
“Yes.” He smiled. “I like you.”
My fingertips instantly tingled.
I suddenly didn’t know what to say. I awkwardly shrugged my shoulders.
He Yuheng braced one hand on the sofa beside me, leaned in, and gently kissed the tip of my nose.
I stared wide-eyed, frozen.
He whispered softly, “I’ll be doing this from now on. Get used to it, okay?”
His gentle murmur sent heat rushing through me.
My cheeks burned instantly. I didn’t need a mirror to know I was bright red.
He watched my reaction carefully.
Then slowly, again and again.
Light kisses landed on my cheek, my dimple, then the corner of my mouth.
His breath brushed across my face. Shyness surged up. I clutched at him helplessly. “Today… can we just get used to it up to here?”
He Yuheng didn’t pull away. He only said, “We’ve been married for almost half a year.”
I froze.
“I just kissed you four times.” His voice was slightly hoarse. “That’s not even one kiss per month on average.”
“…”
I squeezed my eyes shut and threw caution to the wind. “Fine, come on then.”
The “getting used to it” training lasted until it was time to get off work.
Only when I finally picked up my phone did I realize today’s events had already exploded into the third round of heated discussion.
The focus was no longer on me, nor on He Yuheng.
It was on Jiang Xue.
The colleague I was close with had even recorded a video of Jiang Xue being escorted away, captioned with a sarcastic remark about cozying up to the president’s wife.
I suddenly felt embarrassed.
Earlier, wrapped in He Yuheng’s arms the whole time, I hadn’t had the energy or time to think about real-world consequences.
Now the problem stared me right in the face—
I turned to the satisfied-looking man beside me. “How am I supposed to go back to the department tomorrow?”
After today’s scene, that momentum!
How was I ever going to face all my colleagues calmly again?
He Yuheng actually paused for once.
He bent down, lowering his voice and looking up at me. “How about coming to work in the President Office starting tomorrow? Then we can get used to each other every day.”
“…”
I shot him a look and said arrogantly, “Keep dreaming.”
