Chapter 14 Clean Up Your Mouth

On the way home, he rode the little e-bike with me on the back.

Xueqiu ran wild with joy behind us.

He was tall with long legs. Riding that little scooter looked especially ridiculous.

I held his tight, strong waist and couldn’t help laughing at him.

Right then, a voice ruined the mood.

“Xia Mianmian?”

I looked toward the sound. It was my Ex-Boyfriend, Chen Wei.

A flashy girl stood beside him.

Chen Wei’s gaze swept Lu Jingchuan’s mud-stained pant legs and washed-out tank top.

“I heard you got married. So you married into the countryside?”

He gave a short laugh and said to the girl next to him,

“See, this is the gold-digging ex I mentioned before, the one who wanted a hundred-thousand Bride Price.”

The girl put on an exaggerated look of surprise on cue.

“Demanding Bride Price from me—that’s a countryside thing. In the end she still married a mud-legged guy.”

Lu Jingchuan’s usually mild face sank at once.

He swung his long legs off the little e-bike, closed the distance in a few steps, and seized Chen Wei’s collar.

“Clean up your mouth!”

“If you dare spew filth again, I’ll make you crawl out of this village!”

Chen Wei was completely overpowered by his height and build. His face went red from strain. He tried to break free and couldn’t move an inch.

“You… what are you doing! Are you… going to hit me? No wonder poor mountains and bad waters breed thugs!”

The girl screamed in fright.

“Let’s just go. Don’t lower yourself to people like this.”

Chen Wei snorted coldly.

“Right. No point dealing with bottom-rung people. There’s a flower sea over there. Lots of wedding shoots happen there. Let’s go look.”

Then, at the flower base gate.

“Why won’t you let us in?” Chen Wei demanded.

A staff member lifted an eyelid.

“The boss said trash doesn’t get in.”

The two of them fumed. They turned to try the pick-your-own garden next door.

“Our boss doesn’t let trash in.”

Passing the gossip hub at the village entrance was like poking a hornet’s nest.

The aunties opened full fire.

“Oh! Isn’t this the city guy who thought a hundred-thousand Bride Price was too expensive? Why run into our poor mountain ditch?”

“Wanted a free lunch without paying Bride Price. Even our village dogs need two jin of pig-head meat for the owner when they mate!”

“Exactly! Look at the Lu Jingchuan that Xia Mianmian found—tall and strong, can earn money, Bride Price of six hundred sixty thousand without blinking! And the way he treats his wife is solid!”

Chen Wei pointed at them, seething.

“You… you thugs, believe me I’ll call the police and have you arrested!”

An auntie flopped straight onto the ground.

“Believe me this old lady will extort you for eighty-eight thousand?”

One round of that left them stomping with rage.

It even woke Xueqiu, who had been napping nearby.

Xueqiu let out a howl.

In an instant, the bark brigade assembled.

They chased Chen Wei and the girl hard.

The two of them covered their heads and fled in a panic, scrambling to the village entrance to flag a taxi.

A few village uncles with tricycles cracked sunflower seeds at a slow pace.

“Oh, our broken-down carts aren’t worthy of your noble butts.”

In the end, they had to walk several li with grass and leaves stuck in their hair.

They never even gave me a chance to tear into that scumbag myself.

Satisfying and funny at the same time.
