Chapter 15 Severing Ties

I had barely gotten home and caught my breath when Lu Jingchuan's sister showed up again.

This time she wore a smile that promised nothing good.

Lu Jingchuan frowned. "Do you need something?"

Lu Hongxia chuckled.

"Lu Jingchuan, that food company of yours is hiring, right? I've got a friend... excellent conditions. I'll introduce her. She'll work hard for sure!"

Lu Jingchuan looked speechless.

"Hiring has standards. Bachelor's degree at minimum. Technical posts require even more. What circle of friends do you even have like that?"

"You still remember Xiao Xue? Your high school desk mate! She just quit and came back to the countryside. A top student! Perfect timing. She can help you out here, work as your secretary or something, and take care of your life too..."

Lu Jingchuan's face went completely dark.

"What do you mean? I'm married! Why would you bring her here?"

He looked furious.

"I... I'm doing this for you! How is Xiao Xue any worse than that Wife of yours? She's educated, sensible, and knows how to run a household! You've just been blinded by that fox face of hers! Tell me, she spends your money every day buying junk, and she doesn't even have a real job..."

"Watch how you talk!"

Lu Jingchuan's voice shot up. His gaze turned ice-cold and terrifying.

"What do you mean, spending my money? My money is Xia Mianmian's! I earn it so she can spend it! She's a freelance illustrator. One painting is worth several months of your wages! You understand nothing! Try talking nonsense again!"

Lu Hongxia went pale under the shouting, but she still wouldn't quit.

"You're just bewitched! I already heard. That sweetheart of hers came looking for her today! Someone else's cast-off shoe, and you pick it up like treasure and keep it! Must be that nobody in the city wanted her, so she married into our village..."

"Lu Hongxia!"

Lu Jingchuan exploded on the spot. His fists cracked as he clenched them. The force of it made Lu Hongxia stumble back again and again.

"I've spared your face all this time because you're my sister!

And you climb all over me for it! When Mom was sick and nearly dying, where were you?

When we needed money to save her life, where were you?

Now that my days look a little better, you stick your nose into my life under the excuse of looking out for me!

What right do you have to talk about my Wife like that! "

His sister dropped straight to the floor and started crying.

"I know you resent me, but when Mom was sick I had no choice. I had just given birth. My in-laws were still blaming me for having a daughter. Where was I supposed to get money? Where was I supposed to find the energy to take care of Mom?"

"I don't resent you. Maybe things weren't easy for you then either. You had a family. You put them first. I accepted that. Now I have a family of my own. Everyone should just live their own lives well."

He drew a deep breath and pointed at the front door.

"From now on, except for births, old age, illness, and death, we don't need to have any more contact."

That was the first time I had ever seen Lu Jingchuan lose his temper that badly.

I had always thought he was quiet and dull, with no temper at all, giving in to me on everything.

Only today did I realize that once this man hit his bottom line, the force of his anger was truly terrifying.

Lu Hongxia looked completely stunned after the shouting.

Especially after hearing there would be no more contact, she kept wiping her tears.

And she still wouldn't leave.

Seeing the stalemate, I poked my head out from the living room.

"Ahem. Lu Jingchuan, I drafted a few logo versions for the food company. Want to come take a look?"

When Lu Jingchuan saw me, most of the fury on his face drained away at once.

Lu Hongxia rushed to say,

"Then... then what about Xiao Xue? She... she's already here..."

I got curious for a second.

"Xiao Xue? Who's that? The one you said before was Lu Jingchuan's former girlfriend?"

Lu Jingchuan flared up again the moment he heard it.

"You're still spreading lies that she was my former girlfriend!!!"

Cold sweat broke out on Lu Hongxia. She waved her hands fast.

"No, no! Misunderstanding! Just an old classmate. They really never dated, never dated! I was talking nonsense!"

Lu Jingchuan looked at her with cold eyes.

"Since she's already here, do me a favor and tell her to come over."
