Chapter Twenty-Six

Salizar

My one goal in life was to make sure Chris and Benji were happy.

That was my only thought as I closed the bedroom door behind me and called my master.

He answered within seconds, greeting me with his warm voice, “Salizar, all is well, I hope?” Yanus had to be feeling better for my master to sound so at ease.

I hadn’t known that it had affected me until I heard his calm voice, letting it wash over me.

“All is fine, master,” I said, getting that out of the way before he started to worry. “I have a request regarding the book.”

“Oh, well, then let me hear it.” He sounded almost amused at my formal tone.

“My Benjamin wishes for all rogues to no longer exist, and I wish to make him happy,” I said, knowing that was all Altaur needed to hear.

“Hmm,” he mused aloud. “And the witches we’ve allied with want the book destroyed.”

I sighed, having forgotten about that damn meeting. “Yes.”

“You have my blessing to do with the book as you wish, just remember the Greenwren Coven is still out there and I’ve yet to figure out their intention with the book. You better find the witches that are so desperate to get it and hand it over. And Salizar?”

“Yes, master?”

“You should find them before the scheduled meeting. I doubt our allies will take kindly to being denied the book. Better have it out of your hands and avoid more witch attacks.”

I groaned. “There went our bonding time,” I muttered, making my master laugh.

“You poor thing,” he chuckled. “Get that book to the right witches and then enjoy your men. You deserve it.”

“Thank you, master,” I smiled.

I returned to the living room, smiling widely at my incoming news. “We can do whatever we please with the book,” I began, seeing Benji’s eyes widen with joy. “Altaur suggested we hand the book over to the witches before our meeting with the witches who want it destroyed.”

“Ugh,” Chris groaned. “So many damn witches.”

“And we have no idea what their coven names are,” Benji agreed with a frown.

“We need to find the witches who are desperate to destroy all rogues. That was always the plan, but now we’ll give them what they want,” I declared, hating what I had to say next.

“That means our resting time is over. We need to head out now and look for any clues. We simply can’t let our coven do all the work. ”

Chris stood, “I’ll stop by the station quickly and tell them of the decision. Can you call your coven and ask if they found any leads so we aren’t driving around blindly?”

I nodded, already getting ready to call Anker and Yuni.

“I’ll call Hazi then,” Benji said, also standing.

We gave each other a nod, and then went in different directions. I went back into the bedroom and called Anker first, knowing he would have the most information to pass along.

“Salizar,” he greeted, sounding distracted.

“Anker, I need information.”

“About the witches or the Greenwren Coven? I’m looking into them both.” Anker was extremely good with technology, so it wasn’t surprising if he was looking through surveillance to try and find them.

“The witches who want the book back,” I said, then frowned. “Wait, the witches who want the book, are we sure they were the ones it belonged to before it got stolen?”

“What book?” Anker asked, and I felt a headache coming.

“Altaur hasn’t told you what we’re protecting?”

“No, he only told us that the alpha and hunter are yours and we need to protect them, too. Oh, and congratulations, never thought I would see the day you claimed a werewolf as your bonded.” He sounded almost amused, the prick.

“He was a happy add-on,” I said honestly. “A book is what we’re protecting, it holds information that could eliminate the chance of rogues ever being made.”

“Oh,” he said, truly surprised. “And you want to hand it back to the witches, why?”

“We want the rogues to cease existing, but we need to hand it over to those who won’t just destroy it or keep it hidden away. I now doubt the witches who’ve fought us are the book’s rightful owners, mostly because they’d kept it locked up themselves before Christopher’s father stole it.”

He hummed. “I can see your point. I’ve yet to learn any coven names, so all I know is that a bunch of witches want the book but I can’t tell you what they want with it.”

“What about the Greenwren Coven? Altaur said he still knew nothing, but do you?” I asked hopefully.

“If I did, you know very well that Altaur would’ve already known as well,” he drawled.

“Damn,” I muttered. “I just want this book gone.”

“Altaur told me Gabriella was the source. The witches she worked with, maybe those are the ones we need to focus on,” he suggested.

“You got any leads? We didn’t find much when we killed her and the rogues.”

He sighed. “I’ve searched through Willowhill and found nothing suspicious.

I’m currently looking through feeds from all over the city, trying to spot any hint of magic.

I saw one man wearing a red stoned necklace and a dark hood over his head, he entered a bar alone at night.

I had Yuni and Ronin check that out, but the man had been killed inside the pub, no eye witnesses or anything. ”

“Was he a witch or human?”

“Human, which is why it was so odd. Why was he wearing a magic stone?”

“Could he be a potential rogue? Someone the witches picked out for the cause?” I mused.

“He could be,” Anker said, sounding intrigued by the idea. “The stone might’ve led him to the old hotel where Gabriella would’ve been waiting, had she not been killed.”

“But why did he get killed in a bar then?”

“Maybe someone else is trying to stop those witches from getting the book,” Anker reminded me. “Like the Greenwren Coven.”

I shivered at the thought. They were strong enough that they could coerce everyone in my coven to do their bidding, all except Altaur, who was immune due to his age.

“So, I have absolutely no leads and no way to know which witch covens should get the book?” I summed up.

“Pretty much,” he said, sounding just as unhappy as I felt. “I’ll look more into it and call you if I find anything.”

“Thank—"

The door flew open and a bloodied Freddy stood there shaking and panting for breath. “They took Benjamin,” he said, then slumped on the ground, eyes rolling back.
