Chapter 9

Cheyenne walked nervously up the long corridor to the visitation room.

She hadn’t spoken to Canyon since she hung up on him, so she was surprised that he came to see her.

Normally, he only came to see her if she really wanted him to.

Cheyenne was aware that the prison wasn’t his favorite place to come.

Because of that fact and her erratic mood swings, she hadn’t seen Canyon in almost six months.

When Cheyenne first got locked up, she was depressed.

She would barely eat, and all she did was sleep and cry.

After about a month, her appetite picked back up and since Canyon kept her account stacked, she ate good as hell.

She began to put the weight back on and after a few months, she began to feel ugly.

Cheyenne didn’t care about being cute for the bitches in prison, but she didn’t want Canyon to come visit her while she felt disgusting.

Especially since he was free and surrounded by gorgeous women in the real world, and she was stuck in a drab cell.

It took almost a year for her to feel like doing anything but finally, she got some drive.

Cheyenne started working out and doing things to keep herself busy.

She read a lot and picked up some new hobbies.

She even learned to play volleyball. Prison was far from fun and the last place she wanted to be, but she couldn’t wither away and rot for ten years.

Someone pointed out to her that if she didn’t come out of prison a better person than she went in, then she had wasted her time.

Cheyenne was trying to become a better person and not get lost in the abyss that was depression.

She was locked up with so many women that had terrible horror stories.

Some were abused, raped, addicted to drugs, etc.

they lived lives she couldn’t imagine, and she was down for killing her husband’s side chick.

It made her feel stupid and pathetic and some days, she transferred that energy to him.

Some days, in her world, everything was Canyon’s fault.

But he was here, and she was kind of excited to see him.

Her long hair was going straight back in ten long cornrows.

She didn’t have a six-pack or anything but playing volleyball and running had her waist slim and her butt poking.

Her legs were toned, and it was a damn shame she had to hide them in those ugly brown uniform pants.

Cheyenne’s legs felt like they were made of lead as she walked toward the table.

She swallowed what felt like a lump as she noticed Canyon’s clenched jaw muscles.

He was pissed about something. By the time she reached the table, he hadn’t made a move to stand up and hug her, so she knew something really had to be up.

“Hi. I didn’t know you were coming.”

“How would you know? You haven’t called, and it’s not like I can call you.” His tone was laced with ice.

Cheyenne sat down. She wasn’t used to him being the one angry with her. She was usually the one lashing out at him. “Okay, Canyon, you’re obviously upset. What’s wrong?”

“You had an abortion. Before you did what you did. Why?” His eyes were dark and empty.

Cheyenne was shocked that after all this time he had found out.

Everything happened so fast after she found out that he cheated and she did what did to ole girl, that she didn’t have time to get her ducks in a row before she was picked up by the police.

She hated that he found out, but shit, he shouldn’t have done what he did.

“Because the day after I found out I was pregnant, you cheated on me. That wasn’t your first time cheating, Canyon.

I had no idea if I was even still going to be with you, so a baby was something I didn’t need at the moment, and I’m glad I did it.

Everything happens for a reason. It would have killed me to give birth in prison and have to miss ten years of my child’s life.

” Cheyenne didn’t regret her decision one bit, and Canyon would just have to get over the shit.

“So, you don’t discuss it with me? Your husband. The man that you’re pregnant by has no say in the matter?”

“No. Because it was my body. You didn’t discuss it with me before you cheated.

You did shit behind my back that affected the both of us, so I didn’t feel the need to speak with you about the pregnancy.

You would have been against abortion, and I wasn’t going to carry a child that I didn’t want to be carrying,” she stated adamantly.

Canyon let out a sarcastic chuckle. “I don’t even know why we’re doing this still. This shit been a wrap. I’ll ask the lawyer to speed up the process for the divorce.” Canyon pushed his chair back, but Cheyenne grabbed his wrist before he could stand up.

“Lately, you’ve been mentioning divorce a lot. If you don’t want to be with me anymore just say that. But stop acting like it’s my fault. If you want to move on with your life, do it without putting the blame of it on me.”

“Get the fuck out of here,” Canyon hissed.

“You’re the one that acts like you don’t want to be married to me.

There are times you act like you hate my guts.

You act like you hate my guts more than you act like you love me.

But I’ve been here. Chilling and waiting to see if you could get past it, and you can’t.

It’s been six fuckin’ years. Do I wait seven, eight, the whole ten?

This shit is toxic. Been toxic. It’s time to end it.

There’s no saving this. I fucked up first. Put the blame on me.

I lied. I cheated. I was a terrible husband.

I get it, and I’m sorry. I really am. I should have never proposed to you if I wasn’t ready to be faithful. I have to live with that shit forever.”

Cheyenne snorted. “You have to live with that shit forever? I have to live with the fact that I murdered someone, so no it’s not easy for me to get past. Maybe we should just end things.

I need a fresh start. When I come home, I have to get my life back.

I have to learn to thrive without a man because I gave you too much of me.

At one point, I was damn near obsessed with you, and I see where that got me.

Never love a man more than he loves you. I learned that shit the hard way.”

Canyon knew he had to allow her to feel but after six years of her blaming him, insulting him, chastising him, he was over it, and if he was wrong then he was wrong.

“I love you, Cheyenne. I will always love you, and I’ll still have a million dollars and a car for you when you come home.

” Canyon stood up and walked toward the exit.

Cheyenne refused to cry in a visitation room full of people, but her heart felt like it was trying to break free from her chest. She wanted to run after him.

She wanted to scream and cry. Cheyenne wanted to hit him.

She wanted to hug him then fuck him. The wide range of conflicting emotions she was feeling had her ready to ask for psyche meds.

It was all too much. She was going through and dealing with too much.

It was a constant fight to try and accept the fact that she was wrong for doing what she did without blaming Canyon for ruining her life.

There was no way she could ever get past how his cheating ruined her life.

“You sure you got enough money?” Yohana asked Kari before he got out of the car.

“I’m sure.”

“Okay. Have fun. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

One of Kari’s cousins was having a birthday party at the skating rink, and she was comfortable dropping him off because he would be among plenty of family.

The party was supposed to last two hours, and her cousin assured her that Kari could come home with her when the party was over.

Yohana would pick him up when she was done with her date.

It was her second time going out with Canyon, and she was looking forward to seeing him.

Up until she found out that Zone was a rat, it was almost as if Yohana got locked up with him.

She was sad and missed her man, so there was no desire to get dressed up and go places.

Any time she got invited out, she politely declined.

Yohana’s thick hair was healthy, so she just wore it in a ponytail for months.

She didn’t get her hair done or try to fix up in anyway.

Getting cute to hang out with Canyon was good for her.

Though she was still stressed, she almost felt like she was getting back to herself.

Yohana was dressed in a flowing peach dress that was so long it covered her feet.

It was sleeveless and showed just enough side boob for her to be sexy and for the look to still be considered classy.

Her bone straight weave had a part in the middle, and she chose light make-up, so she could go for a natural look.

They had done dinner on their first date, so they were going to a wine tasting this time.

Yohana had to drive about twenty-five minutes to reach her destination, but she didn’t mind.

Riding often cleared her mind. After Zone first went away, sometimes, she would get in the car and just ride with no destination in mind.

When she pulled up at the venue, Yohana pulled the visor down to check her appearance.

Once she was satisfied with how she looked, she opened her purse and retrieved a pack of gum.

A car pulled up beside hers, and she looked up and saw that it was Canyon.

She couldn’t see him through the tints on the windows, but she knew the car, and she grew a tad bit excited that she was about to be in his presence.
