Chapter Six
Bray
I’VE JUST CLIMBED into bed, in my old bedroom in Zac’s penthouse. I don’t really stay here often but he has never changed my room from when I moved out a few years back.
I sat out in the living room for hours listening to the girls laugh and squeal.
I’m glad they could help Alyssa relax and try to forget about that fucking psycho Caitlyn sending her those damn messages.
I want to fucking strangle that bitch. If she thinks she can hurt my family, she can think again.
I will stop at nothing to protect them, and Alyssa is now a part of that.
I know Reilly likes to put on a tough persona, but I’ve been watching her this past week.
I’ve purposely stayed out of her way, much to the disappointment of junior.
The way she looked so broken and stressed in the car when she dropped me off, I know she’s struggling with something.
As much as I’d like to help her, I also don’t want to make things harder for her.
I hear the rattle of my doorknob turning or attempting to turn. I’m about to jump out of bed, ready and alert, when I see those long legs paired with a mop of red hair tumbling into the room. At this moment, I’m really fucking hoping that it’s Reilly and not Holly stumbling in here.
It’s too hard to tell in the dark. I’d have to touch whoever it is to find out.
When I wrapped my arms around Holly a week ago, I knew straight away that something was off.
I didn’t get that electric sense running through me.
My body didn’t feel as alive as it does whenever I touch Reilly.
That was the first sign that they had switched clothes.
The second was the green-eyed monster Reilly, who was dressed as and portraying Holly, was throwing my way.
I watch as this gorgeous redhead stumbles and curses. “Fuck, shit, fuck.”
Thank Christ, that is definitely Reilly.
I watch as she stumbles her way through the room.
There is just enough light coming from the en-suite that I can make out her features.
It is also very clear that she’s shit-faced right now.
A fact that junior is not happy about. I may be a bastard, but I have never and will never take advantage of an intoxicated woman.
I’m silent as I watch her fumble with the zip of her dress.
When she finally manages to get the zip down all the way, she just lets the thing fall to the floor.
Holy Mother of God, she is standing—okay, she’s more swaying—but she is swaying in only a pair of panties.
She’s been braless all fucking night. Damn it, I need to get junior under control.
He’s not understanding that it’s not time for him to come out and play.
Reilly pulls the sheet back and climbs into the bed, falling half on top of me. It’s at this moment she notices she’s not alone in the room.
“Ahh, what the hell?” She attempts to jump back out of bed, but I don’t let her get far.
Wrapping an arm around her, I hold her close to me.
Reilly does not like this one bit; she tries landing punches on my chest. I really need to get her in a gym and teach her how to actually hit more effectively.
I can’t help but chuckle at her attempts.
Stopping her fight, she questions, “Bray?”
“Yeah, babe, it’s me. Who the fuck else did you think you were getting into bed with naked?” The thought of her getting into bed naked with any other motherfucker pisses me right the fuck off.
“Umm, no one, I thought… Ella told me this room would be empty.” She sighs, as she snuggles in closer to me.
I know, if it wasn’t for the alcohol, there is no way she would be snuggling up to me.
But am I going to turn away her snuggles?
Fuck no, I’ve never claimed to be a saint and she is a sin I am more than prepared to indulge in.
“Ella sent you in here?” I ask, wondering what my sister is up to, since she knew I was staying the night. Looks like Ella is playing little miss matchmaker. I’ll have to send her a huge bloody thank you card for this match.
“Uh-huh, I can go. I’m sure there are plenty of surfaces in this castle I can sleep on,” she says, making no move to actually move.
“You’re not sleeping anywhere else, sweetheart. You’re right where you’re meant to be.”
She looks up at me and fans her fingers down my face, that electric zap very much alive and coursing through my body.
“I really wish I could let myself have you, Bray.” I guess a drunk Reilly is an honest Reilly, good to know.
“You already have me, whether you want me or not, babe.” I doubt she will remember any of this conversation in the morning, so I may as well lay all my cards out on the table, my balls along with them.
Reilly shakes her head. “No, I can’t have you. You see, I made a promise a long, long, longggg time ago,” she slurs.
“What promise?”
“That I wouldn’t end up like her.”
“Like who?” What the fuck happened to her that she can’t let herself be happy?
“I can’t tell you. But I’m not strong like her.
I can’t do it. I’m sorry. I really would have liked for you to be mine.
” She leans up inches from my mouth, about to kiss me.
I stop her. It pains me to do so, but I know how wasted she is, and I can’t let her do something she will likely regret, well, any more than she already has.
“Go to sleep, babe. I’m not doing anything with you while you’re intoxicated. The next time your friendly vagina and junior have a playdate, you’re going to be sober and clear-headed.”
Reilly scrunches her face up at me. “What? Why? I am clear-headed; I know what you can do with that pierced cucumber of yours and I want you to do it to me. Now, Bray!”
I can’t hold the laughter, and when I finally calm myself down, it’s evident that she is not impressed by my outburst.
“Pumpkin, you can have this pierced cucumber, anytime, anywhere…” I get down real close to her face, our lips barely millimetres away. “When. You’re. Sober.”
“Argh, you and I both know I’m not going to want your pierced cucumber anywhere near me when I’m sober.” Reilly pouts, full on lips sticking out pout. It’s fucking adorable. It’s taking everything I’ve got not to lean in and kiss her.
“Agree to disagree, babe. You’re going to want to play with junior.
You just won’t admit it, to me or yourself.
There is a difference,” I tell her as I position her body so she’s snuggled up to my side.
My arm is underneath her head, allowing it to rest on my shoulder, her long, red tresses sprawled out behind her. She’s so fucking perfect.
I kiss her forehead. “Go to sleep, Reilly. You’re likely to feel like shit when you wake up as it is; you don’t want to be sleep-deprived as well.”
“Thank you, Bray. I know I’ll probably regret saying this tomorrow, but you are one of the good ones,” she says as she snuggles in.
I doubt I’m going to get a wink of sleep tonight; junior is fucking raging hard, not that I can blame him.
I have a practically naked Reilly in my arms. What I need to do is come up with a plan to figure out exactly what Reilly is afraid of.
What the fuck happened to make her so jaded?
If I can figure that out and know what I’m fighting against, the odds will be in my favour—because one thing I don’t do is lose a fucking fight.
I have a feeling that the fight for Reilly will be the hardest, but most rewarding one yet.
I’m in the kitchen making coffee, while trying to decide how to make Reilly’s coffee. How do I not already know how she takes her coffee? I’ve been watching her all week. I’ve seen her drinking it every day as she enters the club.
I’m debating between a cappuccino and that sweet latte shit that Alyssa drinks. Why the fuck am I so stressed about coffee anyway? She either likes it or doesn’t like it. I’m just about to make a decision when Holly appears in the kitchen.
“Thank fuck you’re up. How the hell does your sister take her coffee?” I ask her.
She seems a little thrown off kilter, as she stares at me with wide eyes. “Umm, uhh,” she mumbles before finally telling me, “she just has straight black, nothing fancy.”
Straight black, I can do. Turning, I hit the button telling the machine to pour a long black.
“Umm, Bray…” Holly’s timid voice grabs my attention. It’s hard to believe she and Reilly are twins; besides looks, the two couldn’t be more different.
“Yeah?” I question with a raised eyebrow.
“How do you always manage to tell Reilly and me apart so easily? I mean, I didn’t even say anything when I walked in, and you knew it was me and not Reilly.”
“Well, you guys might look the same, but your mannerisms are complete opposites. You also have that little freckle under your left eye where Reilly doesn’t.” I shrug like it’s not a big deal. Then I remember the main thing that helps me know them.
“Oh, also, I don’t get the same electric feel from you that I do from Reilly. When I look at you, junior is not aching to come out to play. But when I look at Reilly, he is bursting at the seams to play with her, literally.” I wink.
I watch as Holly processes what I just said; it clicks in and her face screws up.
“Eww, wait, you really call your you know what junior? Also, Reilly and I look just the same, so why does junior like Reilly and not me?” she says as she points to my dick, while also silencing the insistent beeping coming from her phone.
I laugh at her unease. I know I shouldn’t but she’s fucking cute.
“Holl, surely you’ve had boyfriends. All guys have a name for their dicks.
And I can’t explain why junior jumps for Reilly but not you.
I’m not saying you’re not hot as fuck, Holly.
Obviously you are. I just look at you and see a sister.
I look at Reilly and see, well, you get the picture. ”
She shrugs her shoulders up and down. “I have had a couple of boyfriends, but none of them have had names for their, you know.” She gestures to my crotch area.
