Epilogue

One year later

In two days, I would be someone's wife. I still couldn’t believe that it’s been an entire year since Spencer asked me to marry him. The day was perfect and all I could have ever asked for.

The last year was spent with endless planning with Emma and Rachel.

Countless notebooks lost to my need for perfection in handwriting and color coordinating with highlighters.

I was so worried about my need for control that Spencer would turn tail and run, but he remained calm the whole time.

Reassuring me that he was here for the long haul, no matter what.

Wife. I was going to be someone's wife. At this point, I was starting to wonder if that shocked feeling would ever go away. There were days I looked at Spencer, and the love I had for him took my breath away. Sometimes thinking about the fact he wanted to spend forever with me scared the daylights out of me. Not because I wasn’t sure I wanted to be with him.

I absolutely did. However, it scared me because I’ve never been shown this type of love.

Completely selfless and all in. A love that people dreamed of, and only a few were lucky enough to have.

Letting out a contented sigh, I turned my attention back to the stove.

Currently, I was in the middle of making dinner while Spencer was over at my mom’s, fixing something on her computer.

I was convinced at this point she’d trade me and keep him as her kid.

She took no time taking him in and loving him as her own, and I knew Spencer loved it.

Having that maternal figure he never got to have.

Since we’d be leaving for the honeymoon next week, I wanted to keep any clean-up to a minimum, so easy one-pan meals have been our go-to this last week.

My timer went off, so I opened the oven to pull the pan out to check the chicken and potatoes to see if they were done.

A blast of warm heat hit me as I did, and the delicious smell of garlic and parmesan wafted into my nose, and I let out a happy hum.

It smelled and looked amazing. Happy with how everything looked, I placed the pan on the stove top, and as I did I heard the garage door open, followed by Spencer’s car door slamming shut.

“That’s odd.” About five minutes had passed, and he still hadn’t come in. I turned to head toward the door when I saw a little blonde ball dart toward the kitchen island.

“What in the world?” I ran around and under my stools was a puppy with a giant bow around its neck. “Where did you come from, little one?” Carefully pulling them out, I cradled them in my arms.

“Surprise, sweetheart. I got you an early wedding present.” Spencer had finally made his way inside and dropped his bag on the table. Acting extremely nonchalant about the fact there was a brand new puppy in the house.

“How did you… When did you even… Actually, I don’t think I have a complete question ready for you yet.

” I looked between him and the little blonde potato that was currently trying to eat my ponytail.

“Oh no, no, we don’t do that.” I swatted its nose, and it tried to eat my fingers instead. “You’re a feisty one, aren’t you?”

“She sure is. I know we’ve been talking about this for a while now, and your mom actually let me know that a friend of hers who works at the shelter had a momma golden and her recent litter that was picked up from a bad home.

Apparently, the owners kept them locked outside, and they were starving.

They had to stay there for a while to do all the testing and everything they do before they’re ready for adoption, but once they were I went up there and this one bonded to me right away.

I knew she was the one. What should we name her?

” Scratching her fuzzy little creature and dodging her raptor-like teeth, Dolly decided to make her appearance.

She jumped up on me, sniffing the newest addition, and seemed curious.

“What about Stevie? Like Stevie Nicks? She needs a strong name, and based on the spunk I see so far, it seems fitting.” I sat down on the floor with them, taking extra caution in case anything went wrong, so we could slowly introduce them.

“Stevie sounds perfect, and it goes well with Dolly.” He crouched down next to me, giving Dolly reassuring ear scritches.

Her tail started to wag immediately, and she wanted to play.

Carefully sitting Stevie down so they could smell one another.

After a few circles around, Stevie pounced onto Dolly wanting to play, and then they took off.

“Well, looks like that worked out perfectly, huh?” Spencer tilted my face toward him and kissed me slowly. I couldn’t help the grin that broke across my face; even a year later, it felt like our first kiss all over again.

“It sure did, lover boy. I can’t believe you got me a puppy. You’re crazy.” I shook my head because he would go above and beyond for me.

“Don’t worry. I’ve already worked everything out for the next week with Emma and Carson while we’re gone, so don’t stress about the honeymoon.”

“I actually wasn’t thinking about that yet, but now I will be so thank you for that.” I leveled him with my best disappointing stare, but it never lasted long. He always made me smile, no matter what.

“Now now, wife, let's behave, okay?”

“Oh, it isn’t wife just yet, my love, you still have two days. Who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind.” I hopped up to my feet and slowly backed toward the other side of the island.

“Is that so? Leave me a wounded man at the altar?” He inched closer and closer toward me.

“Pity huh?” I tried to run around but damn he was quicker than me. He lifted me up and I threw my head back laughing. Life was fun when you got to spend it with your best friend everyday.

“I love you so much, Allie Grace.”

“And I love you most, Spencer James. Now come on, let's go make sure our new daughter isn’t getting into anything.”

“Anything for you, future wife.”
