Chapter 32 Breathing Beside Me

When I woke again, the night outside was already deep.

Only one dim yellow wall lamp was on in the room. The soft light sketched the luxurious outlines of the furniture.

The high fever seemed to have dropped some. My head no longer hurt like it was splitting.

A medicated patch seemed to be stuck on my abdomen. It didn't hurt.

I moved, and only then found I had been changed into a clean set of pajamas again. The fabric was soft, with a faint scent of detergent.

What froze me even more was the sound of steady breathing beside me.

I jerked my head to the side.

Ji Yanli was lying right next to me.

He was on his side, facing me, as if he were sleeping heavily.

His thick lashes hung down, sweeping a small fan of shadow under his lids.

A high bridge of a nose, and his lips...

My gaze fell on his slightly pressed lips before I could stop it.

The bloody, violent feel from that morning seemed to surge back in an instant. My throat went a little dry.
