Chapter 47 That’s Enough

That sentence made my chest go tight.

And like a spark, it lit a wasteland I had held down for too long.

I looked at his mouth, so close, slightly open.

Like something invisible was pulling me, I lowered my head slowly.

At first it was only a testing touch, light as soothing.

Lips met, and I felt his scalding heat and a slight tremor.

He seemed to freeze for a second, then let out a satisfied sound, like a sigh.

Clumsy and urgent, he started to answer.

The kiss started with the haze of alcohol and an uncertain gentleness.

But soon it turned rougher, more urgent.

His arms clamped tight, locking me deeper into him.

His tongue forced my teeth apart with a strength I couldn't refuse, deepening the kiss, with a taking kind of urgency and a hunger that felt like it went into the bone.

I sank all the way under.

My hands climbed his back without me meaning to.

Through the thin shirt, I could feel the tight lines of muscle and a heat that burned.

His hands started getting restless, sliding in under the hem of my clothes.

His palms carried a spreading fire, rubbing urgently along the skin at my waist.

We lost it.

My body's reaction was terrifyingly honest. All the resistance and reason kept losing ground.

The instant his fingers were about to yank at my waistband, a scrap of leftover awareness dumped over me like ice water.

I shoved him away with everything I had. "That's enough. You should go home."

I didn't know what he had thought of.

He nodded obediently.

"Okay. Home."
