Chapter 20
An interview with Evan and Grace…
Look at you guys going strong after more than a decade together!
Evan: No one is more surprised than I am that I haven’t screwed it up yet.
Grace: He’s tried like hell.
Evan: (laughing) True story. Grace is a saint, and I’m as lucky today as I was all those years ago that she loves me for some reason.
Grace: It’s the sex.
Evan: I knew it!
(They laugh).
What’s life like for you guys these days?
Grace: Our kids keep us busy. Maddox is almost nine, our daughter Luna is six and our younger son, Jack, is four.
Wow, you have three kids! Are you done?
Evan: Grace says we’re definitely done. I say let’s have three more because we make really cute, funny kids.
Grace: They’re amazing, but three is a perfect number.
Are you still touring, Evan?
Evan: We hit the road for a few weeks every summer, and it’s become a fun family tradition. The kids love being on the road—for now anyway. I’m not delusional about the teenage years when they’ll want to be home with their friends and cousins.
Grace: We all look forward to touring with Daddy in the summer.
Evan: It helps that we tack on a family vacation at the end of the tour.
How are the studio and pharmacy doing?
Evan: The studio is great. We’ve recorded twelve number-one songs now, so we’ve grown a nice reputation for being a hit maker. We’ve got artists waiting months for a chance to record with us. My engineer, Josh, runs the studio, and I help out when I’m here.
Grace: The pharmacy is humming along. It helps to be the only one in town. My manager and friend, Fiona, is a huge help to me there and has been such a godsend.
Evan: Fun fact—Fiona is married to Josh!
Wow, when did that happen?
Evan: About five years ago. We joke that it was inevitable because they were always hanging out at our house at the same time. One thing led to another…. They’re really happy together and have two little ones, who our kids adore.
I love that! I’m so glad to hear you guys are happy and doing well.
Grace: We’re so happy. I often think about that first night at the marina and everything that came from it. I feel incredibly blessed to have met Evan and the rest of our friends and family here on Gansett.
Evan: What a life.
Indeed.
