Book 6 Season for Love
His idea of permanence is the VW van that takes him from one gig to the next…
Owen Lawry has made a living as a traveling musician and enjoys his footloose-and-fancy-free lifestyle.
But after meeting Laura McCarthy and helping her to land the job as manager of his grandparents’ hotel on Gansett Island, Owen decides there’s something to be said about a roof over his head and a warm, sexy woman in his bed.
Laura, a newlywed who discovered that her husband never quit dating, came to Gansett for her cousin Janey’s wedding, but ended up staying after she met Owen and took on the renovations of the dilapidated Sand & Surf Hotel.
As Owen and Laura’s attraction simmers during months of close proximity, they form a tight bond that will be tested when her estranged husband refuses to grant her a divorce.
As summer turns to autumn and Laura and Owen take baby steps toward love, favorite characters from past Gansett Island stories continue to live their happily ever afters.

It’s Labor Day weekend when Owen Lawry stands on the front porch of the Sand & Surf and watches the last ferry of the day leave without him.
He’s calling himself ten kinds of fool for staying on the island to be with Laura, who’s pregnant with another man’s child and staring down a difficult divorce.
Despite the many obstacles that stand in their way, Owen has never wanted anyone the way he wants Laura, and as long as she seems to like having him around, he’s not going anywhere.
Laura loves being with Owen, but she’s about to have a child and is tied to the island through her new job managing the Sand & Surf Hotel, which Owen’s grandparents own.
He makes a living traveling from gig to gig on the mainland.
Though their plans are vastly different, she can’t deny the sizzling chemistry between them or that she likes him more than any man she’s ever met—including the one she married.
Linda McCarthy has called Laura, Stephanie, Grace, Maddie and Sydney to breakfast. Sydney reports that Luke is recovering well from ankle surgery, and they may be getting married soon.
Linda reads them a letter from Jenny Wilks, the new lighthouse keeper, which tells the story of losing her fiancé in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.
Years later, Jenny is still trying to get her life moving forward again and hopes a stint on Gansett Island might be restorative.
Jenny’s story deeply moves the women, and they plan to befriend her.
Having survived her own tragedy, Sydney offers to reach out to Jenny.
Maddie wants to hold a benefit to raise money for the seasonal employees whose income drops after the summer ends.
She’s heading to her six-week post-partum checkup with Dr. Lawrence.
Hearing Jenny’s story, Laura realizes her problems are trivial in comparison to what Jenny went through.
When she voices her concerns about Owen changing his way of life to stay on the island with her, Maddie says Mac is perfectly content to be “trapped on the island” and jokes about how to keep him that way.
Laura still wonders if Owen will be happy on the island long term.
After hearing the baby’s heartbeat for the first time during an ultrasound at the clinic, Laura returns to the hotel and tells Owen how glad she is that he stayed.
They share a passionate kiss. They both want more from their relationship.
Before they move forward, Owen wants her to resolve things with her estranged husband, Justin.
She vows to take care of it as soon as possible, and they agree that kissing is allowed in the meantime.
While Mac waits to hear from Maddie that they have the green light to resume having sex, he works with Luke and Big Mac to repair the marina roof.
Luke has been asked to teach at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport for a month over the winter, which affects the off-season projects Mac has lined up for the construction company since Luke is going to work with him there, too.
Kara Ballard, from Ballard Boat Works in Bar Harbor, Maine, is hoping to run a launch service in the Great Salt Pond and asks Big Mac and Mac if they’d like to work together to make it happen.
They learn that Kara is the sixth of eleven children, and they strike a deal with her to offer the launch service from their marina starting the next summer.
Mac gets a text from Maddie and has to go home right away.
