LIZ
That was almost three weeks ago, and I can’t believe I even considered it. Though, it has brought up questions in the back of my mind that I keep forcing back like what’s going to happen when that idol life comes calling and he goes on tour again. Him and Dav En both.
Ever since that first night when they came back and Kyung came alone, Dav En has been with him.
I don’t mind at all since he’s funny like Kyung is and definitely easy on the eyes.
Their personalities mesh so well together.
Between the two of them, they joke around teasing and making us all laugh, but Dav En is slightly on the more serious side, even if he is more hyper.
We’ve ended up dancing together on our outings more than once while Kyung stands back chuckling or sometimes singing us a tune.
Which brings up a whole other problem on its own.
I’m kind of scared to bring it up with Kyung, because how do you tell your boyfriend that he needs to leave his best friend at home and choose between the two of you because you fear that there might be feelings starting to get involved? Like, how does this even happen?
They beat me to our spot tonight, and I slow my pace as I watch them together.
Kyung says something that has Dav En cracking up which makes himself laugh in the process.
Their happy excitement is contagious. It kind of makes me wonder if it’s just me because I seem to be so smitten with them, or if their other members are affected the same way.
I’ve stood by Kyung’s decision to keep me in the dark with his idol life and other band members.
Just to be safe, I’ve even changed coffee shops so that I’m not faced with temptation.
Dav En points at Kyung, saying something and setting off their laughs again that I can hear all the way from here.
They both look mouth watering good too. Kyung’s long legs in his normal black jeans, converse and hoodie.
Dav En in a light blue color of jeans, white shirt and black jacket.
They’re both taller than average, but look nothing other than when they’re standing next to each other like that.
Their height is about where the similarities end.
Kyung has a slimmer build with thinner limbs and almost black hair that he rarely parts, giving him bangs.
Dav En is thicker in the shoulders and thighs with silver, almost white hair that he keeps parted.
I’ve almost wanted to play a game to see which one of them will move their hair out of their eyes the most in one night.
Dav En’s face is more round to Kyung’s oval shape with thicker lips, too.
Both of them just as attractive as the other in their own way.
I can’t help but wonder if this is what their fans feel like when they’re looking at them. Like how does one even choose a bias, or whatever it’s called?
Kyung is facing my direction with Dav En between us, so he sees me first. At his smile, Dav En turns, and I swear, I feel like I forget how to breathe. Hard swallowing to help push down my feelings and nervousness, I give them a small wave, which both return as they start walking towards me.
Making it to me first, Kyung leans down and presses a mask covered kiss to my forehead.
Then he steps back and looks at Dav En. The man in question makes a face at his friend under his mask that I wish I could see.
There’s a small pause before Dav En steps up and sweeps me up into his arms, literally lifting me off my feet for a few seconds before setting me back down.
Oh, the way those feelings try to rise to the surface. I school my features so none of it shows in my expression as I hand my phone over to Kyung. “You guys had dinner yet?”
“Nope,” Dav En answers for them both.
“We were waiting to eat with you,” Kyung adds.
I smile at the two of them before asking, “Where to then?”
“You should pick,” Dav En says as we start walking.
I snort with a quick chuckle. “Don’t you know it’s a dangerous game you play, asking a woman what she wants to eat?”
Out of the corner of my eye, I see him flick a worried, questioning gaze over to Kyung who just laughs with me.
“I’m kidding,” I reassure him. “How do we feel about the convenience store? I think I could do with some ramyeon tonight.”
“Sounds good to me,” Kyung agrees as Dav En rubs his belly.
“I’m just glad we didn’t bring Jae-un,” he says quietly. “I’m hungry tonight.”
“You’re always hungry, though, Dav En,” I tease him.
Kyung laughs. “It’s true.”
They start teasing each other again as they let me walk us to the store I’ve got in mind.
We’re still laughing as we get inside and start picking out our food.
I don’t even wait to see what all Dav En is going to load up on.
I go straight for the ramyeon, grabbing an iced drink, rolled sausage, and a pack of mochi ice cream after I get it set up to cook.
We all get to the counter about the same time to pay where the two of them end up playing rock paper scissors to see who gets to pay.
I offer, but they act like they don’t hear me.
We gather our spoils and walk back out to the walking trail. I take them up a little bit further where there’s a small park and a couple picnic-type tables. Sitting back and enjoying my food, I laugh a little as I think about the fact that this is the quietest they will be all night.
“What?” Kyung asks, making Dav En look up from the chicken he’s practically inhaling.
I shake my head with a smile. “Nothing.”
He looks down at the mochi I’ve set between us and gives his own short little laugh. “There’s only two in there. Who is splitting with Dav?”
“Rock, paper, scissors?” I tease, resorting to their method of choosing.
I lose first shot, but he prompts best two out of three, and I win. Dav En simply sits next to him across from me watching us as he eats. When it’s finally decided, he announces, “That’s okay. I don’t want any sugar after this anyway.”
Kyung looks at me and we both start laughing, because he could’ve told us that before we started playing. Or even after I lost for the first time.
When we finish eating, we clean up our mess and the boys stretch like they ate too much.
“I think we should start solving our problems with fights instead of rock, paper, scissors,” Dav En suggests.
“Are we talking hand to hand battles or medieval like with swords and stuff?” Kyung teases back, taking a sip of his drink.
Dav En grins ear to ear, and it pushes his cheeks up making his eyes narrow like mine do when I’m cheesing hard. “Hand-to-hand.”
“I could take you,” I warn him.
His eyebrows raise as his expression turns incredulous. “Maybe finger to finger then?”
We laugh and he adds, “Is there anything that you can’t do?”
Tapping my chin, I think on it, spotting the swings behind him. “Not that I’ve found. I can even fly.”
This time it’s Kyung’s eyebrows that raise while Dav En purses his lips and pouts at me.
“I can prove it,” I tell them with a quick wink before I stand. Going over to the swings, the two of them take up posts on either side of me.
“Wait,” I tell them before I sit down. “Can I see one of your phones?”
They should be used to this now. Dav En complained a few weeks ago about not having new content for his social media account, so I try to snap pictures of them while we’re out that I know their fans would love to see, because I know that I sure do.
He’s the one that gets it into my hand faster.
Taking a seat in the swing, I tuck it safely so that I don’t drop it and start to swing.
When I’m high enough to look down on them, every time that I go up, I take a picture of one then the other before making them get together.
Got to admit, they’re pretty awesome shots.
I slow down to pass his phone back to him before picking up speed to go higher again. “Okay, you ready?”
I can see the moment Kyung knows what’s about to happen.
His lips part in surprise like he’s going to tell me not to do it.
Dav En is the only one surprised when I tuck the chain behind my arms and jump out.
I’m high enough that I catch some serious air before coming down on my feet.
It’s jarring but not enough to hurt anything.
Yet, I still roll with it, trying to relieve some of the impact.
I’m flat on my back laughing at the sky when the two of them come into view over me.
“That was awesome,” Dav En says as Kyung talks over him, “Never again.”
Raising up on my elbows, I’m still slightly out of breath as I ask them, “You guys never did that as kids?”
“No way,” Dav En admits. “Never even thought about it, because if I would’ve gotten hurt my omma would’ve been so angry.”
“Same,” Kyung says.
I laugh, remembering the first time a kid at the playground dared me to do it. “Mine was, too. Especially when I broke my arm the one time.”
Both their mouths drop open. Dav En collapses beside me and we both fall back, staring up toward the stars. It takes Kyung a second to join us, but when he does he literally commands, “Never again.”
“Okay, mom,” I tease him in English, making Dav En chuckle.
There’s a small moment of quiet before Dav En breaks it. “Hey Lizzy.”
“Mmm,” I respond quietly.
It takes him a minute before he speaks again. “Will you be my girlfriend, too?”
The breath stills in my chest as the clouds disappear long enough to spot a few stars in the sky.
Kyung’s hand finds mine between us and he interlocks our fingers together.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this question from his friend doesn’t surprise him.
Furthermore, him not saying anything and simply taking my hand is his permission in a way.
I really, really hope that’s the case, because I’m either about to make us all happy or ruin everything. Doing what I always do in situations, I go with my gut feeling. It’s never steered me wrong before. Ever.
“Yes, Dav En. I will,” I answer softly.
Kyung squeezes my hand, making me feel like I’ve said the right thing right before Dav En jerks upright. “Seriously?”
“Sure, unless you already changed your mind,” I tease him.
“No way,” he says, grinning. Glancing down at mine and Kyung’s hands, he reaches out to take my other one.
That’s how we sit for a while talking about a little bit of everything until it grows late enough that it’s noticeable.
When we get up to leave, Dav En refuses to let go of my hand and Kyung tucks his into one of my back pockets.
Since we’re so close to my place, Kyung offers for them to walk me, but I tell him it’s fine since it’d just add more time to their trip.
He doesn’t listen, of course. When we’re standing on my stoop, he leans down and kisses me on the cheek before stepping back.
Dav En looks at him before turning to me.
I physically watch the breath leave his chest as he leans down to press a kiss against my other cheek.
Purposely keeping my gaze on Kyung as he does it, I get my answer to how he feels about it.
His lips turn up in the softest smile I’ve seen yet.
He loves his friend enough to share what we have. If he’s willing, then so am I.
I bid them both goodnight as they wait until I’m inside to start walking away. Little do they know, I can’t help but peek my head back out to watch them. Kyung shoulder bumps him as their low murmurs drift back to me. Dav En literally beams at his friend before he bumps him back.
I’m not sure how this is supposed to work, but sometimes the best things in life start out like that, in ways that we don’t understand.
This has the potential to hurt twice as bad now, but it’s going to be twice the rewards.
Here’s to hoping I never have to find out if the rewards are worth the pain.
