35. Chapter 35

Leigh

“Can you all go at least a few days without needing me? I’m tired and my nurse is tired,” Sam said as he stitched up Glenda’s leg.

Hammer cleared his throat.

“I didn’t say I didn’t appreciate you. But at some point, the scales have tipped, cuz.” He clipped something. “All set.”

Glenda looked at her leg. “Thanks, Sam.”

“We good?” I asked. She tried to tell me she was fine to go home but I wanted that leg wound looked at, and Sam agreed it needed stitches.

Sam stood up, degloved, and washed his hands. “I’m done. Over the counter meds should be good once the lidocaine wears off. Manny’s stable so I’m going to sleep in my bed for a few hours.”

Hammer shook his hand. “We’ll leave a couple guys here.”

“If they touch any of my shit we’ll have a problem,” Sam said. “I have to keep track of all the meds in here and narcotics are reported.”

Hammer rolled his eyes. “My guys won’t touch your shit.” When Sam left the room, Hammer looked at me. “Come on down to the clubhouse. We need the rundown.”

“I’d like to get her home,” I told him.

“Shouldn’t be long. And I’ll send a couple guys over to your house to keep an eye out for now. I don’t want any more surprises.”

“Sure thing, Prez.”

Sam rinsed Glenda’s hands to be sure there wasn’t any damage there besides the obvious. Her hoodie was destroyed but we’d take care of that later. She only had a little blood on her jeans somehow, so she’d tossed the hoodie in Allie’s SUV before coming inside.

Allie dropped us off at the clinic but she was relieved of her duties, and her SUV after that. Butterbean grabbed his truck and came for us.

I climbed in the back with Glenda and we rode the short trip over to the clubhouse.

Looking down, her knuckles on her left hand were swollen.

They’d probably bruise. She had scratches on her arms, face and chest. Sam cleaned her up and put something over the scratches.

She kept insisting she was fine, but he kept working. Good man.

“I’m so tired.” She was snuggled up against me.

“This shouldn’t take long. There’s not much of a story.”

When we pulled in, Allie was outside smoking and Linny and Pinkie were standing with her, huddled together.

Once I helped Glenda out, they ran to us and fussed over her.

Linny shoved a sweatshirt at her. “You must be freezing. Allie said you had to leave yours.”

She took it but laughed. “I’m good. I’m still riding the adrenaline wave, I think.”

“Well, keep it for when you cool off,” Linny said.

“Let’s go inside,” I told them.

They pulled her away, Linny and Pinkie surrounding her and wrapping their arms around her waist from either side.

We all headed to the bar and the ladies took a seat at one of the tables, still acting like mother hens.

Leaning down, I kissed her lips. “I’ll be back in a few.”

“Okay.” I started to walk off but she said, “Hey, I love you.”

Leaning down once more, I gave her a deeper, still short, kiss and some folks whistled. Standing, I grinned as I walked off to find Hammer.

Bama was walking down the hall. “Hey, he said meeting room. How you doing, brother?”

“I’m fine.” I rubbed my wrist. When the chair went down, the cuffs pinched me a little. “I appreciate you. Allie told me you’re the reason y’all came looking for me so fast.”

He shrugged. “Old Lady tells me to do something, I do it. Glenda knew something was wrong, so they sent me. But for real,” he said as he smacked my shoulder. “Brothers before all else. Glad it all worked out.”

“Those ladies have some good instincts.”

Bama chuckled. “Or some really shitty ones. I’m still fucking pissed at Allie.”

“Oh, I’m not happy Glenda was in the middle of this shit, but somehow I think she needed it.”

“Maybe,” Bama said. “But what they did was still dumb.”

“Very, but I’m probably not gonna word it like that when I talk to her about it.

” I was going to talk to her about it. We got lucky it worked out and they weren’t dead.

But she couldn’t do shit like that. Especially since Hammer told them to hang back.

Allie was chatty as fuck on the way to the clinic, but more in a fuck-him sort of way than just telling me the story.

But Glenda knew it sounded bad because she kept trying to get her to shut up.

But she also gave the run down on what led to them finding me.

We headed to the meeting room and several officers and a few members were there.

Hammer motioned for us to take a seat. Once I was situated, he said, “Alright. No casualties for RMBC. I don’t think that place was a clubhouse for them. Just a hideout.”

Froggy said, “Agreed. But they were using it for something. Why else would they be going over there?”

We’d tracked a few of them to that place a few nights back. Skeeter and Runt told us it was a possible spot, so we’d checked it out and sure enough, saw some Scorpions heading in.

Froggy shrugged. “We hadn’t gotten inside yet. Planned to go out tonight, in fact. But this fucker over here had to get snatched up.”

“Definitely wasn’t my plan when I swung by the house,” I told them.

Hammer leaned in his chair. “Did that crazy bitch say what they wanted?”

Shrugging, I said, “She made it sound like she was in charge.”

They all laughed.

“I dunno man.” I clapped my hands together lightly. “She said she had the money. She was the bitch Reggie was promised, from what she told me.”

“Oh shit. Their VPs sister. And you took him out, too, that night,” Rogers said with a nod.

“Yep. Lady. But Glenda called her Lydia.”

Hammer said, “Yeah. Breaker has all their info. We’ll dig into why she at least thought she had control of the money.”

Rogers chimed in. “Maybe it wasn’t club money. Maybe it was her brother’s and she got it when he died?”

“Maybe, but nothing like that turned up on his research.”

Bruno, our treasurer, spoke up. “It’s easy enough to hide money if you want and have the means to do it.”

“We took out at least ten tonight, including this Lady,” Bama said.

“Glenda took out Lady,” I interjected.

Hammer said, “Don’t fucking remind me. These women are out of control.”

“They found me first was the story I heard,” I said.

Hammer stared at me, lightly nodding. “That they did. Still, they could be dead.”

“I agree. I’ll talk to Glenda.”

“Anyway,” Hammer continued. “What happened? What did she say?”

I told them all how I was ambushed at the house, and how Lady was trying to get me to turn like Reggie, and in exchange, she’d let Glenda live.

“I knew you wouldn’t let anything happen to Glenda.” I looked around. “I’d rather die than turn on my brothers.”

The room went quiet for a few seconds. Finally, Bama cleared his throat. “I put Bruce back in the house. He was barking up a storm, so I didn’t want to leave him out and draw attention to the house.”

“Thanks, man. I’m glad they didn’t kill him.” He sure was trying to get out of the fence. It wouldn’t have taken much to take him out. “Speaking of, are we set? I’m beat and so is Glenda.”

“You sure you don’t want to stay here a few nights?” Hammer asked.

“I got alarms on the house. I just didn’t have them on because I was running in and out.” I honestly hadn’t used them in ages. I got comfortable there. I didn’t know some crazy bitch was looking for us. “Plus, you said you’d send some members over.”

“We got a few guys. Enjoy it while you can. We’re gonna have to be on more patrols until we can be sure we’ve driven them out.”

“And make sure there’s no more crazy sisters with money and rage,” Bama said.

It wasn’t Church because Hammer hadn’t called it, but everyone that mattered was there, so I raised my hand as everyone started to get up to leave. “Hey, before we clear out, I got one more thing to discuss.”
