Halo

Fast forward before the first

My loud phone pulled me from the deep sleep I was in.

With my eyes still closed I stretched my arm out on my nightstand so I could feel my phone.

But I did not feel anything, and the ringtone was getting louder.

I opened my eyes and followed the sound to the floor.

I don’t even remember knocking my phone on the floor.

When I grabbed it and saw Blake’s name, I answered it. “Sup cuz---”

“Yo’! Get up and come get me! Story came and picked up Siren! You smashed Dallas and I don’t know where they went!”

That woke me all the way up, I turned and looked at the empty side of my bed. Story’s overnight bag was gone. I leaped out of bed and threw my pajama pants on, a shirt, socks, my blue Airforce Ones and rushed out of my place.

“Did they say where they were going?” I asked Blake as I burned rubber out of my parking space.

“No and Siren isn’t answering her phone. Cuz, tell me you did not smash Dallas.”

“I fucked up cuz, she found out last night and shit turned up. I’m about to come swoop you, if she picked Siren up then I think they went to Lazy Daze.” I was driving like a maniac at high speed and dodging red lights.

“Halo what the hell! Even I wouldn’t have done no shit like that. Not only was that too close to home but Story is perfect as they get.”

“I know that, Blake! You tellin’ me something that I already know! Come outside I’m turning the corner now.”

She wasn’t saying anything wrong, I just did not need to hear that right now.

Blake got in the car, and I pulled off before she could close the door all the way.

I was glad she did not lecture me at all.

All she did was call Siren repeatedly, I did the same with Story but we both did not get anywhere.

“Shit.” Blake said when we got on Lazt Daze block and a small crowd was in front of the strip.

I parked carelessly and we both jumped out of my car.

“Those girls got their asses beat!”

“The light skin one barely was able to get a hit in!”

People were saying all kinds of things, when me and Blake made our way through the crowd we both stopped at the sight.

Aspen had her head between her legs and a towel over her.

Dallas had her head held back and some older woman had a rag to her nose.

She only had one sandal on, and her knee was scrapped up badly.

Me and Blake both did not care to see about their wellbeing.

We stepped out of the crowd, and I went to ask one of the bystanders a question.

“Aye, where the girls who beat them up at?”

“They been left. Mr. Fench and Mr. Howard broke up the fight and told them to leave before they get into trouble.” They informed me.

Blake and I got back inside of my ride, and I drove us back to Story and Siren’s place. If they were already gone then they had to be there.

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” I hit the wheel as I drove.

“Don’t make us crash cuz, that won’t solve a damn thing. I’m sure they went home,” Blake tried to relax me.

But I wouldn’t mellow out until I had Story back in my face. Yesterday started perfectly, she met my auntie and Thaddeus. They got along good, Greek hung with us and we went back to my place. When I told her to grab some money out of my wallet I never thought about the missing condom.

Story’s face when she confronted me, her reaction, and the way she cried. Before she even broke down, she was throwing her hands and attacking the hell out of me. I deserved all of it and it never crossed my mind to lay a finger on her back.

Story’s hits weren’t soft either, she was fast with her hands. When I finally got hold of her and we kissed. I thought I could make her physically feel how sorry I was. When she gave in and we went for three rounds it solved the problem. I figured she’d still be mad, but she wouldn’t leave.

Story knew how not only her pussy knocks me out.

But when she sleeps next to me, I fall deeper asleep.

I felt like I was suffocating without her and it hasn’t been one whole day.

This can’t be the end of us. It just can’t be.

Blake went back to Siren’s place when we arrived and I went to Story’s.

I banged on the door like I was the police.

“Halo, why the fu---”

“I need to talk to Story.” This wasn’t a typical visit, so I did not want to greet Hendrix.

“Story? She’s not----”

“Aye nigga I ain’t in the mood to play no games! Let me speak to her now!” I damn near pulled the screen door off the henges.

Hendrix showed me he wasn’t a punk because he flipped out, opened the door, and shoved me.

“Tha hell my nigga! I just told you she not here but even if she was, you not about to talk to her while you that hot!”

Even though I liked how he protected her, I was on one today. His push did not knock me down, so I was in his face fast.

I shoved him back and he fell against the screen door. Then I ran into the apartment and sprinted up the stairs two at a time.

“Story! Story!” I called her name and there was nothing.

She had to be here, I got back downstairs and went through the bathroom and was about to go into his room, but I was pulled back by Hendrix and Blake. In my head, if he did not want me to go in there then that meant she was hiding in there from me.

“Get off me! Let me talk to my girl!”

“Cuz she’s not here! Siren said she dropped her off then left!” Blake shouted at me.

Hendrix door opened and some nigga came out holding a gun and trying to see what was happening. Hendrix went to him and let him know to fall back that I was his best friend’s boyfriend.

“Somebody tell me what is going on and where Story is at?! For real cause, this nigga trippin’ and I on God if you did anything to her!” Hendrix went off and grabbed the gun from the guy who was in his room.

That did not faze me at all, I wanted my damn girl and since she wasn’t here then I had no reason to be. I left the apartment and saw Siren on her phone.

“Don’t even come to me because I am not telling you where she’s at. You humiliated my girl and I hope she never messes with you again.” Siren cussed me out and went into Story’s apartment. When she closed the door, I knew that she was telling Hendrix what happened and where Story was at.

I saw a brick and was about to pick it up, but Blake stopped me. Then Greek’s truck pulled up, him and Golden got out. They ran right to me and got in my way before I could throw the brick at the door. My intention was to get back inside so Siren could tell me where Story was at.

“Control your fucking emotions brother before I knock yo’ ass out!!” Greek was the only one to get me in a head lock.

He had Golden’s help, but he used all his strength, and it was noticeable.

“I’m good! I said I’m good!” I fought to be released from them.

They let me go and I went right to my car, started it up and burnt rubber. I could hear them shouting my name. If Story wasn’t at home, then she had to have been at her Regan’s house. I’ve picked her up from there a few times.

When I called Story’s phone again. I was blocked. She had to have just blocked me because when I was with Blake it rang until her voicemail picked up. I heard a loud horn when I looked out of my rear-view mirror.

I saw that it was Greek’s truck behind me. My brother can honk his horn the whole way if he chooses. I wasn’t stopping until I got to Regan’s house.

As soon as I saw Story’s car, I became relieved. But Greek arrived directly after me, Golden and Blake were with him. Regan came out of her front door when I walked across her grass.

“Halo take your behind home and leave my sister alone!”

I wasn’t aggressive like I was with Hendrix because Regan was a woman. I’d never put my hands on one like I did him. As if he heard me think of him, Hendrix’s car pulled in the driveway, Siren was with him.

I thought they were about to come at me. But they went up on the porch, and I saw Story let them in. Hendrix closed the door so fast that I only got a glimpse of her.

“Story! Please come out and talk to me! Please, boo! We can fix this!” I begged and tried to get on the porch, but Greek and Golden wouldn’t let me. “Would y’all move! I need to talk to my girl! Move!!” I looked at them like they were crazy.

“Halo! You need to quit before the police are called! Let’s go and she’ll reach out to you later!” Golden of all people was blocking me and trying to get me to leave.

“He’s not playing around! I am seconds from calling the police on you now leave!” Regan threatened and her phone was in her hands.

Thios was a losing battle, and I felt increasingly suffocated. I wanted my girl, I needed her and I couldn’t get her. There were all these obstacles in my way, everybody shouting at me, blocking me and she wouldn’t even come to the door.

“Get in the damn car and let’s go home! Swear Halo if the police arrive, I am kickin’ yo’ ass for a long time! Let’s go!” Greek ain’t never flipped out on me the way he was.

Golden’s frustration followed behind him. I believe in that moment if I had the power to just ‘merk’ (slang for kill)) all of them to get my boo then I would. I’ve never had that feeling before and I quickly pushed that thought out.

I love Story that much that I would do anything to get her to forgive me. But right now, I was not getting anywhere. Regan looked like she was on her last warning, and my brothers were not giving in. They did not stop until I got in my car and drove away.

Greek followed close by behind me. I almost crashed my car because I could barely see clearly. My feelings were all over and I honestly wanted to just drive into a river. It was that deep for me, and I couldn’t blame anyone but myself.
