It was Friday. I’d just pulled into Madison’s driveway and parked my truck. After I called her mom and told her that I wanted to go to Dallas to see Madison, Bella, and Beau, she happily gave me her daughter’s address.

As I walked back to Madison after going to my truck, she covered her mouth, but I could still see her smiling.
“When did you have time to get me this bouquet of daisies?” she asked as I handed her the vase.
“I made time.”
“Who’s going to take care of Casper while you’re here?”
“One of the ranch hands that I’ve become rather close to. John Strader. He’s a great guy.”
“I-I’m just blown away that you came to my house. I’m so happy to see your handsome face.”
“Are you going to invite me in?” I teased.
Madison giggled, nodding. “Yep, sorry. Come on in.”
When I entered, I could smell dampness in the air from the water leak.
Then, as Madison showed me around, I saw that the carpet in the dining and living rooms had fans blowing on it.
The kitchen floor was done for. Madison said she wasn’t getting hardwood put in, but tile.
She felt it was best in the event of another leak happening.

“You know what your smaller bed means, don’t you?” I asked, cutting my eyes at her.

“We have to sleep closer to each other.”
She smiled. “We already sleep as close as we can get, so much that I make you sweat.”
“You do that to me anyway.”
“Would you like to take a peek at Bella and Beau?”
“If you think it won’t wake them up. I have business with you.”
“Business, huh?”
“You know it.”
Bella’s nightlight in her bedroom enabled me to see her angelic face as she slept. Beau’s nightlight by his crib did the same for me. Looking down at my boy, I lightly stroked his red hair. He didn’t move other than sucking on his pacifier.
I looked at Madison standing beside me. We grinned at each other, then she grabbed my hand and led me back down the hallway to her bedroom, closing and locking the door behind us.
