Qanek

After enduring weeks of torture at the hands of Lord Kane, his queen intervened on my behalf and allowed me off the pyre. It took several more weeks to physically heal, and when I had, my lords whisked me to a place they called ‘husband school.’

The lessons were many, the hours long, the chairs small and uncomfortable.

But I endured.

Every lesson became engrained in my mind.

The human women my brothers chose as their wives were very wise, though they could not compare to Lucero.

They were too pretty. Too perfect. Lucero, she was not.

And it was those traits that endeared her to me.

The empty space between her two front teeth, the hair that was unkempt.

The laugh that was too loud. The words that made me far too dizzy.

I had fallen under her spell, and I never wanted to awaken from the illusion.

So I absorbed every lesson. And when Nazzar and Xavir pulled me into the night to teach me to control the rage, I worked hard to not be blinded by sensation. I grounded myself.

I thought of her. Of how much I missed her. And how she deserved more.

And in between lessons, I lost myself in building our home. The one she had deserved from the start.

It was to that home that I whisked her away. It was built on an oasis near a pool of crystalline water on a bank near my brothers’ property.

Their homes were extravagant.

Mine was simple, because my wife was simple, practical.

And still a sensation slid through my bloodstream.

Nerves.

I wanted to growl and bark until they went away, but I took a deep breath and watched her face as she stared at our home.

“Qanek, what’s this?”

“I built a home for us.”

Her attention snapped to me. “For us?”

My tongue felt heavy. I swallowed. “You did not like our den–”

“That’s not true.”

“Do not lie. It is alright. I have learned humans like their comforts, and I did you a disservice in not providing them. But I have installed everything you might require. Plumbing, electricity, and a kitchen. There is also a room for your photo-gruffy.” I stared at her.

“Dolores and Mia have explained it is important for you to have your own room for this. They were a great help in the design of your dark room. Come.” I took her hand and she complied, following me inside.

I showed her around the place eagerly, bouncing on my claws.

Everything was small and practical. Big enough to fit us both.

Comfortable enough to lounge, as we discovered we enjoyed in our cave.

There were photo-graffs of things I thought she might like.

When I took her to her new dark room, she gasped.

“Qanek, what’s this?”

Her device captured images. But I had found many, many more different models that I had hoped she would enjoy.

“Qanek, these are vintage cameras!”

“I have collected many jewels,” I explained. “I used them to purchase your basic necessities.”

“Basic necessities? Qanek, these cost thousands of dollars.”

“I do not understand human currency. If you worry I have no jewels, I have many to buy more of these devices ten times over.”

“Qanek!”

“Yes, wife?”

She reached for my hand, holding it tightly. Tears brimmed at her eyes, and I wiped them away with the tips of my claws. “Are you pleased?”

She snorted. “Very.”

“I learned much from husband school.”

She shot me a side glance. “What else did you learn in husband school?”

“Many things. To cook and clean. I have learned emotions and the human anatomy to better please you–”

“Oh, really?”

“Your internet has much information.”

“Qanek?”

“Yes?”

“Do you want to show me exactly what it is you learned about the body?”

I stared down at her, catching the scent of her arousal. It gripped me, made me nearly feral. After so long without her, I was desperate. Needy.

“Come on.” She tugged me out of her dark room. Let’s go break in our bed.”

I followed, my tail swishing eagerly behind me.

“Are you sure?”

She shot me a sly smile over her shoulder. “It’s been too long,” she said. “And your wife aches for you.”

I growled, picking her up and rushing the rest of the way.

And it was on our new bed, in our new home, that I showed my wife all that I learned about how to please her.

And please her I did.
