Criminal Confessions, Season 7: The Carnival Killer
OUTTAKES—UNEDITED INTERVIEW WITH SAMUEL FIGG
Location: Washington State Men’s Penitentiary, Walla Walla, WA
JANA JONES [PRODUCER, OFF CAMERA]: This won’t be in the final cut because legal won’t allow us to mention specific names. But I have to ask again. Do you know who killed Lorelei Glass?
SAMUEL FIGG: Maybe. There was a guy watching us all night, seemed kind of obsessed with Lorelei and her friends. I didn’t like that. We had a conversation when the girls all went to the bathroom about his staring problem. [coughs] Can I have more water?
JONES: Do you need another break? You look a bit pale.
FIGG: Just water.
JONES: [muffled conversation, pause] Here you go. So what else did you and this other guy talk about?
FIGG: He asked me if I was aware that the girls were only fifteen, and I can honestly say that until that moment, I didn’t know. That’s when I decided to bail. I was outta there before they got back from the bathroom. Call it an Irish goodbye.
JONES: You left three fifteen-year-old girls stranded at a drive-in?
FIGG: Come on, they weren’t stranded. They knew plenty of people. The point is, Lorelei was alive and well when I left. Though, thinking back now, they might have been safer with me than with him. The second I looked into his eyes, I saw it.
JONES: Saw what?
FIGG: It. The thing that makes someone a predator.
JONES: All right then. Last question for today. Why didn’t you kill her?
FIGG: [sighs] Because I didn’t feel like it. I know you’re looking for some complex answer, pretty lady. But honestly, it’s just not that deep.
