Chapter Six

After giving Rosie a couple of minutes to get herself together, Pappy asked her, “Do you know the names of his staff?”

Rosie nodded. “There were only two. Mrs. Bell, she’s the cook and housekeeper.

She never spoke to me really. Just to tell me mundane things.

Like there’s milk in the fridge. Then there’s Lillian, she’s the maid.

Ty even made her dress like one. Little black frilly skirt and a white apron.

She always looked like she wanted to talk to me, but she was just too frightened to do it, I think?

He used to drag her into his study and when she came out again she was very shaken and she had to leave the house for the day.

But she was truly afraid of him so she came back every day. He wasn’t very nice to her at all.”

“Your sister told us the servants left the house every day at the end of the day. Is that true?” Pappy wanted to know.

Trudy shook her head. “How sick is that? It’s just wrong on so many levels. ”

Rosie nodded. “That’s why I said he deserved every hit Kelly gave him. I only wish I’d...” She shook her head and went on, “I have to just say it out loud. I wished I could have done it. Beat him like that.”

Char reached over and took her hand. “He’ll never touch you again, Rosie.”

Rosie hung her head. “I know but I don’t want to go back to Olivia’s house either.

I hate the fact she threatened Kelly. She only came along to help and now she’s in trouble.

Olivia would be happy to send her to prison.

If she succeeds in putting her away, we would still end up being carted away by Victor, all over again. ”

“Well, that isn’t going to happen.” Shay growled. “I won’t let it happen.”

Char looked up and asked, “How can you stop them? They think they are golden and nothing can stop them. They have police and judges on their payroll and no one knows who those people are.”

Trudy smiled. “That’s what I do, girl. I find secrets and expose them.”

Pappy grinned. “This is true. Baby Girl here is our secret weapon. One we protect like she’s made of gold. If your grandmother has any secrets, Trudy will find them.”

Char shuddered. “Please don’t call that monster our grandmother.

She doesn’t have a kind bone in her body nor does she feel anything but greed when she looks at us.

She was going to sell our mother into sexual slavery and when mom ran away from her she came back for us.

.. her children. She had to house us and feed us but she never treated us right.

She and Victor abused us every single day we were there.

And even with that slob she auctioned me to, leaving was my only hope of surviving them.

I got away from him, but I had to go back for Rosie.

Then I wasn’t there the day she was sold to Ty.

I had to find her and the first time I saw what that fucker did to her I knew I had to get her free.

” Char paused to look over at Kelly. “I had one chance, I called in my best friend and she answered big time.”

“And I would do it again if I had the chance.” Kelly nodded.

“But right now, we have to find a way inside Olivia’s empire,” Pappy interjected. “And this...” He held up the papers Char had given them. “Might be a way in.”

Trudy looked puzzled as she asked, “What’s in there?”

Pappy grinned at her as if he had just discovered there was gold on his land. “Ever heard of SeaCrest Holdings?”

Trudy’s interest perked up. “Really?”

He handed her the papers.

She skimmed them quickly then she gasped.

“Oh, hell no.” She looked up at Dewey and said, “I gotta go and run this down.” She glanced back at everyone in the room.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we might have just gotten ourselves a break in this case.” Then she looked at Rosie.

“I was also able to get that video from Ty’s bedroom.

The one that was supposed to be Kelly. It’s on Shay’s phone now. ”

Shay raised his head up to ask, “It is?”

Dewey chuckled at his stunned expression. “None of us are safe.”

Trudy smacked his arm then smirked. “Nope, none of you are. So have Rosie watch that video a few times. You all need to look at the smallest details in it too. I think the answer is there. Ole Olivia finally fucked up and now she’s trying to hide behind that threat she sent to your sister.

It’s time for us to yank her up from her entitled existence and put her into the trashbin.

” She then rushed away and went out the front door.

Dewey hurried out behind her.

Shay looked over at Pappy.

He shrugged back. “Dewy and I have trouble keeping up with her honestly. And I don’t think she ever sleeps to tell you the truth.”

They all chuckled.

Pappy went on, “Don’t know exactly what she’s thinking but I hope she can hit it outta the park again. But we may need your old credentials for this one, brother.”

Shay nodded. “I may have a friend of a friend card that I can play.”

“Good, once we have all we need then we’ll call in the big guns,” Pappy grumbled.

“These men are the big guns, Stone,” Shay told him.

Pappy stared at him. “Good then we can skip that step.” He went over to take Kelly’s hand. “Don’t you worry, you won’t spend even a day behind bars.”

Kelly bit at her bottom lip, then she nodded at him.

Char leaned forward and whispered to Kelly, “Can they really do everything they say?”

Pappy raised a brow at her and took a step back.

Kelly turned to her friend and nodded. “You bet your sweet ass they can and they will.”

Char let out a deep breath. “Then gentlemen by all means bring that haughty bitch and her demon dog of a son down.”

Rosie turned to her sister with a look of fear on her face. “Are you sure that’s what you want to do? Bring her and Victor down for good?”

Char turned to Rosie. “Look... I know you have grown up while being afraid of them, sis. But now’s the time to step up and get our lives back.

She’s nothing to us, not our grandmother or any kind of mother.

She hated us from day one. How many nights did you go to bed hungry or afraid?

How many nights did you hear the lock turn on your door?

Did they ever buy new clothes for you on a regular basis?

Or just when the old ones fell apart? Did Victor ever hug you or did he always raise a hand to hit you every single time you opened your mouth?

Because that’s what they did to me every fucking day I stayed there.

I hope and pray that these men find something on them they can’t deny and I hope I get to see dear ole Olivia and Victor dressed in orange one day.

I want to see them walking out of jail in chains and right onto a bus that will take them to prison.

Then I want to follow them in just to see them enter that prison and they get to hear the lock turned on them.

And I hope to see that they finally understand that they don’t rule the world.

I want to see them living there with no chance of getting free just because their names are Barron.

” Looking enraged as tears streaked along her face, Char got up and ran down the hall to the bathroom.

They all heard the door slam behind her.

Rosie looked over at Kelly and fresh tears rolled down her cheeks.

“We were both there for a long time but she was older and remembers more bad stuff than I do. But’s she right about this, they need to be stopped.

” She looked up at Shay and Pappy. “I hope with all my heart that you find what you need to get them, then finally what Char wants to see will happen.”
