Chapter Seven
It wasn’t even light out the next morning when Shay and Kelly were awakened by someone pounding on the door.
Shay pulled his pants on and grabbed his gun then stomped to the front door. But it wasn’t the police he found on his doorstep so early, it was Pappy and Trudy.
“You need to move over, Shay.” Trudy pushed him out of the way.
Shay blinked his eyes and looked over at Pappy.
The man raised his hands up and shook his head.
Kelly came out from her room and rubbed her eyes as she yawned.
When Trudy saw her, she grinned. “Where is your friend? I need to tell her something.”
Kelly shrugged. “At this hour, I would think she was asleep.”
A door down the hall opened and Char stepped out. She looked wide awake.
Trudy smiled and then went over to hand her a few papers.
Char looked confused then took the papers back into the living room and sat down to read them. The more she read the more confused she felt then gradually she understood and slowly shook her head. When she finally finished reading them she looked up at Trudy. “Is this really true? All of it?”
Trudy nodded. “Yeah, it’s all true. Your grand.
..Olivia and Victor used a holding company to move contraband to our enemies in foreign countries.
Countries the US won’t ship to, for obvious reasons.
They hid what they were doing by labeling the contraband under domestic labels.
We could never connect people to the holding company until you turned over the papers from when you lived under her roof.
Your paperwork made the connection between her, Victor and that damn holding company.
That’s all we needed.” She turned to look at Kelly and added, “Oh and your detective is caught up in their dirty deeds too. He’s connected to a huge smuggling ring deal they made.
I found a video of him meeting with the actual smugglers and it was to get a pay off, not to arrest them.
No one ever knew he was a cop helping a crime ring. But we got him now.”
Shay reached for his phone and sent a text to his friend of a friend.
Then he looked over at Pappy. “This isn’t going to go down very well.
” Shrugging his shoulders he said, “More heads will roll than just those three. There has to also be some rotten eggs in customs and the border patrols too. Once that pair are arrested, they will start talking and it shouldn’t take too long to have all those bad eggs in one basket. ”
Trudy smiled. “Oh, don’t you worry, we’ve got more where this came from.
If Olivia or Victor think they can avoid prison by spilling the beans they have a lot more to answer for.
This is just the opening act.” She nodded at Char.
“And they did sell Victor’s daughter to Barrios as part of a deal to help cover up their schemes. ”
Char gasped. “I never knew Victor had a daughter.”
“Apparently, she was a best kept secret. Somewhat like you two were.” Trudy sighed and went on, “She will be free as soon as we arrest Raynando. I am telling you, girl...We can’t even play this all at once.
Their crimes are many. Why Olivia Barron had to sell her grand.
.. you both.” She motioned to Char and Rosie.
“I don’t know. But it just shows her greed because they were already making bank while breaking US law and international laws.
But now we got them and they won’t be getting away either. ”
At all of this news, Char gasped as she looked excited for the first time in this mess. Then she looked at Kelly and mouthed the words, “Thank you, girlfriend.”
Kelly gave her a nod. “You and Rosie as well as myself will be free from those two and their sick games.”
A few hours later...
Grizzly from Savaged Souls MC sat at Shay’s kitchen table, reading the reports Trudy found.
He looked up at the ceiling and smiled. “Hallelujah and thank you Jesus!” Swinging his gaze over to Shay, he explained his statement, “We’ve been working on these crimes for longer than I care to admit.
Then we have tried to help the FBI with their cases for these criminals as well.
This will help us get them all.” He handed a few papers to Skeeter.
Shay nodded. “I’m glad we could help but you’re going to have a problem with Olivia and Victor Barron.
They think they can’t be touched. In fact, they set up my wife and framed her for something they did themselves.
She was arrested for the murder of Ty Regis over San Antonio way.
She’s out on bail right now. I hesitate to call that woman their grandmother because she is anything but grandmotherly.
She ended up selling both girls to men that used them and abused them although Char wasn’t with her man for more than a few hours.
That was because once he got her behind his doors, she showed him the hard way that he wasn’t going to hit her.
She left him laid out on the floor and before he could wake up on his own, someone else set fire to the house.
He burned to death and there was no video left from that crime.
Char then went back to get Rosie out from under her grandmother’s roof but she was too late to do that.
Olivia had sold Rosie to Ty Regis and he kept her long enough to.
... Well, let us just say that he did not care that she was under age.
They got her out after a few weeks. Kelly went along and she used a bat on Regis but he was alive when they all left.
He was unconscious on the floor of his bedroom.
Then we believe ole Olivia came along and slit his throat, probably to keep him quiet.
Then surprise, surprise the police got their hands on the video of his murder and arrested Kelly. ”
“It was my grand...” Rosie paused as she stood at the door of the living room. “...it was Olivia Barron that killed Ty. We watched the video. I watched it three times. Then we spotted something.”
Kelly stepped up next to her and told them, “Rosie identified a ring on the finger of the woman that held the knife that slit his throat.”
Rosie stared at them all as she nodded her head.
“It was like too far away for most of that video then I saw it. It is a unique gold ring with a huge diamond with rubies set in all around it. It’s like a twenty thousand dollar ring or something?
She has many photographs of herself at events.
They hang on her mansion walls and she is always wearing that ring.
So, even if she denies it.... That will be evidence. ”
Char agreed as she added, “She also has pictures of herself wearing it in the local newspaper, so even if she got rid of her own photos there is public proof.”
Shay nodded his head. “Once the video is studied more closely they will be able to see the differences in height, and other factors as well.”
“Then there’s the big fake,” Kelly added. “The detective that's in charge of this case.”
Shay scoffed at this reminder. “Yeah, we found the detective that arrested Kelly is related to Olivia and Victor. His name is Ray Burrios.”
Skeeter frowned then reached for his phone. He scrolled through his photos and came to one. He studied it then turned the phone to Shay. “Is this the guy?”
Shay took the phone then he nodded at Kelly. When she came over he handed it to her and asked, “Is this the guy from the police station?”
Kelly studied the phone then she handed it back. “Yeah, that’s Detective Burrios.”
Skeeter snorted. “He’s not a detective anything.
If he’s here and in a position of authority then he faked his way in.
His real name is Raynando Garcia. He comes from Mexico City, believe it or not.
Trained as a cop there but had to leave because he got into a scandal.
He was caught in public for taking bribes.
He escaped jail and disappeared. I guess we know where he went after that.
But he had help from someone to get into police work here in Texas and I believe we know who that was, don’t we?
He’s been moving around. Louisiana, Alabama and Kentucky.
He’s got forged paperwork and in each case it’s just a bit different every time.
But he seems to know when it's time to move on and before we can catch him he’s gone. ”
“So, he’s related to Olvia Barron and he’s not even a real cop?” Char asked.
Skeeter gave her a nod. “He went to San Antonio to cover for her crimes. But he isn’t just a liar. He’s a complete fraud.” He looked over at Grizzly and said, “If we move early maybe this time we can catch him.”
Kelly nodded. “Just beware because I don’t think he’s gonna go down easily. He might just start a fight and use the distraction to escape. He’s sleazy enough, he’s also big enough to start a riot.”
“Don’t worry about us, he may be a big guy but Skeeter and I are big men too,” Grizzly assured her.
Shay chuckled now. “Yeah. You’re what six foot-seven? I can see why they call you Grizzly.” He turned and looked at Skeeter.
He just shrugged. “No one will ever know why I am called Skeeter.”
“Well, we have a really great IT source,” Shay joked. “She can find out anything.”
Skeeter shook his head. “My mom made the name up. It isn’t on paper anywhere, man. But back to good ole fakester, Raynando. This will make several police stations happy when he’s caught. Imagine what that felt like? Being a rube and a fool for a man like him, when you, yourself are a cop too?”
“And I’ll bet he’ll fold the moment he’s in cuffs.
” Grizzly nodded. “Most men like him usually do. They know they are caught and they don’t want to go down alone.
He’ll give us info on Olivia and Victor Barron.
He’ll want to make a deal to do less time, but not even that is going to help him, he’s facing at least four charges of fraud and many counts of impersonating a police officer. ”
Skeeter stood to his feet and smiled. “Well, let’s go talk to the man then. We could take him by surprise. Oh, what fun.” He rubbed his hands together like he was going to get hot wings or something.
“Maybe call the police chief there first,” Kelly suggested. “He seemed to be on the up and up.”
Skeeter nodded. “We checked the chief out already and he’s the real deal. And don’t worry about going to prison. That just is not happening.”
“From your mouth to God’s ear.” Kelly turned around and left the kitchen.
Rosie and Char followed her.
Shay watched them go and shook his head.
Finally, Shay looked back over at Grizzly and Skeeter. “She’s really worried about going up on murder charges. And right now, she doesn’t need that stress.”
Grizzly stared at him and nodded his head. Then he spoke quietly, “Look, we are husbands and fathers so we could tell. You are finally gonna be daddy, Shay?”
Shay froze then decided to be honest and he nodded.
“We haven’t said anything yet. First of all, she felt like it was too early to share the news.
Then she knew her boys would be super upset that she went on that rescue mission.
Like I was. Man, I was a wreck until she got home.
Then the cops came and arrested her. I wanted to kill someone. ”
“Good thing you didn’t...” Skeeter smirked. “I imagine the arresting officers were real.”
Shay nodded. “Pappy made sure I kept out of trouble. But yeah, she’s gonna make me a daddy in about five months.”
Grizzly grinned. “That’s great. Congrats, man.”
“Being a dad is wonderful,” Skeeter assured him.
“It doesn’t matter if the kids aren’t even yours.
Diane and I adopted two and now we have another one of our own on the way.
Both girls belong to my late partner and he died a long time ago.
But when those girls found each other, they became real sisters and they are mine. ”
Shay nodded, then said, “You guys be careful when you go to the cop shop. Kelly is right, Ray is gonna fight back. I watched him in court yesterday and the man is running on rage and fumes.”
“Don’t worry about that,” Grizzly said as he stood. “We’ll tame that rage and get him parked into a federal cell. No way will he be escaping from one of those..”
