Chapter Ten
Finally, Kelly let go of her girls and went over to her husband.
Wrapping her arms around Shay’s waist, she laid her head on his chest. When she heard his heartbeat, she smiled.
She was safe now. She wouldn’t have her baby in the prison ward hospital.
The charges would be dropped and she wouldn’t have a record to explain to her kid someday.
Her husband and her Hell’s Fire Riders family stepped in and saved her life.
Her own heart was settling down and even the air around her felt lighter than usual.
The girls finally got up and sat in the kitchen chairs. They had some leftover giggling though as they probably replayed in their minds some of the best revenge anyone ever witnessed.
Trudy was already seated there as she also snickered on and off.
After they all got tea, Trudy cleared her throat and announced, “I need to tell you girls that we found something else.”
Across the table, Shay set his cup down then closed his eyes and sighed. “Now what?”
The girls looked scared of hearing something bad as well. Especially after today and their victory.
Trudy went through her paperwork and picked up three sheets.
She then looked at Char. “Your parents left you and Rosie insurance policies. In a trust, as the only beneficiaries. No one knew this since you two were squired away and locked up all the time. So your grandmother and uncle never knew about this either and the trust has been compiling interest all these years. You and Rosie have quite a bit of money to be split between you. You’re getting not only a fresh start but you have money your parents set aside to help you start over. ”
Char just sat there with her mouth open in shock. “Mom and Dad left us money to start over?” she whispered.
Trudy nodded. “Your dad left two policies behind, one for your mom and one for you and Rosie. Your mom did the same but they safeguarded the money by putting it in a trust that only you or Rosie could touch. Apparently, they knew what your grandmother was like and they didn’t want you or Rosie to have anything to do with her.
I reached out to their attorney earlier today and he said he’d been looking for you girls since you turned 18.
When I explained what had happened he was shocked and very upset but he also told me he had a feeling that you were in trouble.
Apparently. he knew about your grandmother as well and he assured me that the money was there and that she couldn’t claim a penny of it.
He said he would be here to explain everything to you and your sister himself.
He’s coming down from Iowa. His name is Richard Combs. ”
Char just sat back in her chair and tears rolled down her face.
Rosie had said nothing but she reached over and took her sister’s hand in hers.
Watching this, Kelly knew it was finally time.
She got up and walked down the hall to her bedroom.
When she returned a few minutes later, she carried a package, yellow with age.
She sat down next to Char and handed her the package.
“When we were just kids, your mom came over and handed this to my mom. She said in case something happened to her she wanted your mom to save this for you and Rosie.” Kelly shook her head.
“After my mom died and I was alone I just gathered my mom’s things together and left Iowa.
I couldn’t even look at her things then, let alone read anything.
I was gone about two years before I opened her papers.
That’s when I found that. I haven’t opened it so I don’t know what’s even in it but it’s what your mom left with mine for you and Rosie. Mom couldn’t give it to you, so I am.”
Char leaned forward and hugged Kelly tightly. “Thank you. I owe you big time now. For everything you’ve done to help me. Getting my sister out of that damn mansion, dealing with Ty, getting arrested for nothing and now this.”
Kelly leaned back in her chair. “You don’t owe me a damn thing.
You and Rosie are the only ones from my childhood I have left.
We’re sisters, remember? When you left, I’d hoped and prayed you would get in touch with me one day.
I was so glad when you called. Life after you guys disappeared, just wasn’t the same for me. ”
Char lowered her head to study the floor.
“It became a nightmare after we were taken away. The evil witch made sure of that. After she sold me off and I decked that fat pig, I had to hide for the last five years. I had no food, no money and no way to earn a living. I knew they would be looking for me so I couldn’t even find a job.
But I made it. Despite everything they threw at me, I made it.
I lived like a thief most days. Then there were days when I had to run and hide because someone was asking about me.
” She looked at each face in the room. “But now it’s over.
Olivia and Victor will finally pay the price for their arrogance and they can never do harm to anyone again.
And neither can Ty Regis. Me and Rosie can finally be together like family should be and we can breathe fresh air again.
And there ain’t nobody standing in the shadows waiting to snatch us up. ”
Rosie simply swiped at her tears then squeezed her sister’s hand.
“A happy beginning. Not an ending.” Kelly smiled at them. “Maybe you can think about staying here? We have so much time to make up for and maybe you can help me?”
Char looked confused and asked, “Help you? What are you talking about? You’re the strongest woman I know.”
Kelly placed her hand on her belly and said, “But I’ve never had a baby before.
I don’t know if I can do this without you.
Shay is going to be a great dad one day soon, but I don’t know how to be a mom.
I mean how did my mom do it? We didn’t have much when I was growing up and you are the only sister I ever had. Well, you and Rosie.”
Char grinned and that grin turned into a laugh. “Oh Kelly, you’re gonna be a great mom. And I like this little piece of heaven you all have here.” She looked over at Rosie.
Her little sister nodded her head as she smiled.
“We say yes,” Char told her. “I’d like to stay and get to know my little niece or nephew. You are gonna have a baby, wow!”
“What did you just say?”
They all looked over to see Pops as he stared at Kelly.
GTO, Chase, Crusher, and Comanche stood there with him.
“Did she say...b-baby?” Comanche exclaimed as his eyes went wide.
“You had us escort you to a rescue and fight a fiend with a baseball bat when you are having a-a...Baby?” Chase exclaimed as he looked almost pale.
It was all gonna hit the fan now.
Pappy and Trudy had raised eyebrows.
“Oh, hell,” Shay muttered under his breath.
Kelly stood and faced them. “And I would do it all again. If any of you needed me to come and rescue you, I would do it in a heartbeat. No one hurts my family!” She met each man’s eyes.
“So... let me ask you. How many names can a baby have? And I do NOT mean your road names.” She grabbed a pen and a paper from Trudy’s area on the table and pushed it forward.
“You all better get to giving me those names.”
Her ‘Boys’ all stared at her as the kitchen grew quiet.
Shay slowly shook his head as he and Pappy wondered if she could really pull this one off. Would her guys ever speak to her again?
Then they all scrambled for the pen and pad.
Pops stepped over too, just not as fast as the younger boys. Giving Kelly a wink, he laughed. Then he looked over at Shay. “Boy, it is a good thing you are too clever for her antics.”
Shay tucked his head back in surprise and replied, “Are you serious, Pops? When it comes to this woman, I’m the biggest rube in this room.” He stood and got in line to put his name down too.
Trudy, Pops, Pappy, Chars and Rosie, all laughed.
