Chapter 94

“Baby,” I say as we follow Declan’s Tesla to his lake house. “I’m sorry Adam did that. He is out of line. Don’t let this be the memory of your birthday. Think about all the people that were there tonight.”

She huffs, looking out the window. “He’s pathetic.”

It’s silent for a few minutes and I hate Adam more now than ever, considering if I should do something.

“So, when you retire,” Dani breaks the silence, “we’re getting into car racing?”

Declan’s idea to get her a track membership was smart. She shouldn’t be driving crazy on the roads anymore. I also thought it could be a fun hobby for us to share when I have free time.

“I’ll still be working when I’m chairman—hopefully, only twenty hours a week. And we can race bikes or cars, whatever you want.”

She nods, and then her face tightens. “I feel kinda weird that Declan kissed the top of my head when he hugged me,” she softly says. “How do you feel about that?”

“Why do you feel weird?” I ask, thinking about how Dani and Declan’s friendship is something that takes a lot of maturity to be okay with.

Selfishly, I would rather she not have him in her life, but ever since the funeral, things have been better.

She’s been happier, healthier, and working on a lot of personal growth.

Our relationship is stronger. We both have been sticking to our goals and supporting each other.

“I’ll talk to him about it. He shouldn’t kiss me at all.”

“We’re on the same page about that.”

“Does it make you jealous?”

“Dani,” I scold. “Between what happened with Adam and you talking about Declan right now, I don’t even want to joke about any of this.”

“Sorry. You’re right.”

“Please be mindful of how you interact with Declan this weekend, okay?” She huffs.

“I’m not trying to start anything. I’m just asking you to tone it down a little.

You guys have been a lot lately.” She squints at me, clearly disagreeing.

“Do you want me to start calling you out on how you cross the line with him?”

“I think we should stop talking about this,” she says, looking down. “Adam … he threw weird energy into the night, and I’ve had a couple of drinks. Let’s talk about this tomorrow with clear minds.”

I sigh, and the rest of our car ride is silent. As I pull through Declan’s gate, all I can think is that I’m never going to be able to buy a forty-million-dollar house.

“I wish I would have gotten into Bitcoin sooner,” I say to Declan as we walk into his summer home on Geneva Lake.

He shrugs. “Some people think it will hit over a hundred thousand a coin in the next few years. Plenty of opportunity to still get rich.”

“You’re pitching me.” I chuckle. “That’s funny.” We walk upstairs.

“Take whichever one calls you,” he says as we walk past room after room.

“Green room,” Dani says, stopping in one of the doorways.

“I call it that too.” Declan smirks.

Maybe I’m already fired up, but this comment hits differently. “Thanks for hosting us,” I say to him, then close the door behind us. Wrapping my arms around her waist, I kiss Dani’s neck.

“G,” she admonishes.

“What?”

“We cannot have sex in Declan’s house.”

“Why?”

“It’s too weird,” she says. “I do not want him to know we’re having sex.”

I take a deep breath, trying to manage all my thoughts. “It’s your birthday. He knows we’re going to have sex.” Her face is stressed. “Baby, why is this weird for you?”

“It feels, like, so off-limits. It feels too naughty.”

“Too naughty?” I flirt. “You wearing leather is too naughty,” I whisper into her ear after pulling her close to me. “I love this skirt.”

I want to fuck her right now. Claim her. Between Declan and Adam, I need to affirm that she is mine.

“We can be quiet,” I say, shedding my jacket and then my shirt. Dani’s eyes glance down my chest and abs. When they make their way back to mine, I know she wants to have sex. “Or we can be loud,” I say, unbuckling my belt.

She bites her lip. I drop my pants to the floor and step out of them. “Sit,” I order, pushing her onto the bed. Hovering over her in just my briefs, I stare into her eyes. “What does the birthday girl want?”

“We have to be quiet,” she whispers.

“Quiet. Anything else?” I ask, unbuttoning her leather skirt.

“I want you to tell me what our future looks like while you …” She raises her eyebrows.

I hum, kissing her neck. I’m happy she wants me right now.

“I think next year for your birthday,” I start, pulling her skirt down her legs, “we’re going to be in a different country.

It’s going to be much more intimate, just us.

” I run my tongue along her cleavage. “Maybe Bali or someplace like that.”

Pulling the straps of her bodysuit off her shoulders, I continue, “Once I’m the chairman, we’re going to travel a lot. We can go anywhere you want.” I slide the bodysuit all the way off and see she’s wearing nipple covers and a thong.

She grabs to remove one of the covers, and I squeeze her wrist. “I’m the only one touching you.” She smirks, and I peel off both, setting them on the nightstand.

I pull back the duvet, and Dani nestles into the bed. Sliding in next to her, I caress her, touching all over her body. Dipping my hand underneath her thong, I feel how wet she is. “Always wet for me.” I smirk in satisfaction. “I think you will have met my parents by this time next year.”

“Oh?”

“We’re not talking about that while my finger is on your clit.” She giggles. “Quiet, remember?” I tease, slamming my lips into hers. “I think we will be living together by your next birthday. In a new place for both of us,” I say, then nip at her collarbone. “Something we pick out together.”

She hums, liking that idea. I like this idea a lot too. “Maybe I’ll be calling you my wife,” I test, and she opens her eyes. She doesn’t like that idea. “Or maybe I’ll be calling you my fiancée.” She squeaks. “Do you hate that idea? Me calling you that?”

“Right now? Yes. This time next year? No.”

We could be engaged this time next year. I love that idea.

Refocusing on fingering her, I whisper, “I know you so well. I know how to make this body react. I know what you’re thinking.” She squints at me, not believing me. “I know you want to be quiet, and I also know you want to make Declan jealous, screaming loud enough for him to hear.”

Her eyes confirm that. I know my girlfriend. “I love you.” I slam my lips into hers. “I love that I’m the only one that gets to touch you like this.” I stroke my fingers inside her, building her up while my thumb makes soft circles on her clit. “So, are we going to make him jealous?”

“Yes,” she breathes, holding the sexiest gaze with me.
