Chapter 116

After the closing, Dani and I cuddle on the couch at my condo before leaving for Declan’s dinner party.

“Do you want to read this?” I ask, showing her the final agreement for me to step down as CEO of Real-ity.

“Not really.”

“You should,” I encourage. “We’re a team now. You should know everything.”

“Speaking of that,” she hesitates. “Do you want to get a prenup?”

“Absolutely not.” I kiss her. “I don’t want insurance on our marriage.”

Dani leans in, pressing a sweet kiss on my cheek.

“I can’t wait to start the new year in Bali with you,” I say, squeezing her into my chest. “Four weeks of nothing but you, me, and paradise.”

“Thirty-eight. It’s going to be your best birthday and the best year of our life,” she says and pulls me down for a kiss.

“We could get married there,” I joke, and she glares at me. “Actually, I was thinking—no pressure—that March sixteenth would be an interesting date.”

“The day we met. So romantic, but no!” she says. “That is my decision. I’ll let you know when I’ve decided.”

After a silent moment, she huffs while staring at her ring.

“What?” I ask.

“We have so many people to tell. We haven’t told anyone yet.”

“What’s that face?” I ask, seeing stress emerge.

“Declan … I don’t want him to be the first to know. My parents should be the first.”

My jaw clenches. It bothers me. Why doesn’t she want him to know? Is it because she’s over ninety days sober? Or if he’ll react differently?

“I’m not going to wear the ring at dinner tonight.”
