Chapter 23
Alec
Rolo isn’t the first person to die at my hands. I would never admit it to Tegan, but I’m the reason my stepfather is dead. Both men deserved it, and I don’t regret my actions, but I’m worried what Tegan would think if she knew.
I always assumed Tye put two and two together, that he’d known I’d been the one holding the blade that slit my stepfather’s pathetic throat as he lay passed out on the couch after a binge. That’s probably why he didn’t react much to the news that I beat Rolo until he succumbed to his injuries.
That’s why he’s my best friend.
I’m not sure Tegan would accept me the same way, though. I don’t even know how she feels because we didn’t have a chance to talk before we all loaded into the van—sans one—and headed to the next neighborhood.
Last night and earlier today seemed to revive Tegan, though.
When we approached the first mansion, she rushed up and knocked on the door with much more confidence than I’ve seen from her so far.
She retained that confidence at every house, and we kicked ass, ending the day with over two dozen orders . . . each.
As we skim some cash off the top and rip up the respective orders, Tegan turns to me. “What do you take the money for?” she asks.
I wrap my arm around her shoulders and swipe my hand in front of the setting sun. “Imagine this sunset, pup, but from behind the wheel of our own van. Imagine the two of us leaving a neighborhood we chose.”
“You’re saving up just to do more of this?”
“Not this. Not exactly. I want my own crew, and I want to run shit.”
“Is this all you dream of?”
“Is there something wrong with that?”
She gnaws her inner cheek. “I don’t know. I guess I just want something of my own. I’ve never had anything of my own. It’s always been someone else’s before it was mine. My clothes. My food. And this crew and the next one.”
I brush her hair from her face. “You have me.”
She nods. “Yeah.”
Women don’t run these shady operations. It’s men like Stacks and, hopefully one day, me.
It’s not that she doesn’t deserve something of her own.
She just can’t have that. And selfishly, it’s what I have been working toward for myself for years.
All that money squirreled away. All the things I’ve dealt with. It’s all toward this one fucking goal.
And I fully intend to bring Tegan along for the ride.
On the drive to the next motel, Tegan is again seated between me and Tye.
The back seat is chock-full of tension. I notice everything, like the way her legs touch ours.
My thoughts get increasingly dirtier, and I wish I could kick everyone else out of this fucking van so I could take Tegan—with or without Tye.
He’d be welcome to join, though, as always.
What an unfortunate time for my dick to actually work.
We pull into a fast-food restaurant, and everyone unloads from the van and heads inside. I motion Tye forward with my chin, and he follows the group. When Tegan takes a step toward the restaurant, I pull her aside and drag her toward the back of the van.
“What are we doing? I’m hungry,” she says.
I smirk. “So am I.”
“Then what—”
I cut off her sentence with my mouth as I kiss her. I grab her hand and place it on the front of my pants, then rip open the fly because I want her to see the absolute monster of an erection I have for her.
“I need to have you,” I whisper in her ear. “Now.”
We don’t have long, and anyone could drive by and see us, but I don’t give a fuck.
I turn her around, put her hands on the hot metal, then lower her pants and grab her full ass.
She’s so fucking beautiful. She’s even more beautiful when the gasp leaves her lips as I push between her thighs. She’s so fucking tight. So warm.
“You’re soaked,” I growl. “It’s not just for me, though, is it?” I say as I draw my hips back and plunge into her again. “While you sat between us, were you thinking about how I could touch you? How I could fuck you?”
“How you both could,” she pants.
I brush her hair away from her face and fist the dark strands, craning her head back. “Such a good fucking girl.”
I didn’t expect that to come out of her mouth. I’ve thrust this girl into an unconventional situation, and she loves it, gets wet at the thought of it. She is so beyond incredible, and I’m unbelievably lucky.
So I fuck her, hard and fast. She whimpers and moans as I pin her against the van and slip my hand between us so that I can make her come, all while knowing the crew could come out at any moment.
“Ace,” she pants as I swirl my fingers around her clit.
“I couldn’t wait. I need you now. But you wait until tonight. You’ll be fucked and used until you’re left without a single thought in your pretty head. If not by me, then by Tye. And hopefully, both of us. Such a spoiled little whore, aren’t you?” I whisper against her warm ear.
She moans and nods against the metal.
The restaurant door opens and closes, and footsteps head toward the van.
I cover Tegan’s mouth and listen. Everything tells me to pull out and play it cool, but she’s so fucking tight and inviting, and I don’t want to waste my erection.
The temptation is too great, and the feeling is too good, so I hold her mouth and continue to fuck her as the side door opens and closes.
The doors are solid in the back of the van, and no one can see us from inside, but they can certainly feel the motion of the damn thing with how hard I’m fucking her.
I pull her hips back against me and grind into her to prevent the van from rocking with our movements.
I slip my fingers into her mouth to quiet her instead of keeping my hand around her mouth.
Her teeth clamp down as she gets closer, and pain sears through my fingers as she comes around me.
I grit my teeth through the pain and keep railing her until I know I’ll bust too.
She tightens around me, spasming and milking me of my pleasure.
I fill her and bury my face in her neck to stifle my uncontrolled groans.
She pulls embarrassing sounds from me, and I cry them into her flesh. She just feels that fucking good.
I pull out of Tegan and help her look presentable before anyone gets more of a glimpse of what’s mine. We try not to look guilty as hell as we climb back inside. One of the crew sits in the backseat, but they don’t say anything to us.
A few minutes later, the rest of the group funnels out of the building. A few people mill around, lighting cigarettes and getting a quick hit before we’re back on the road. Stacks climbs into the driver’s seat and looks at me in the rearview mirror.
“Tye said Tegan was feeling sick,” he says.
He’s so quick thinking, because that was a great excuse.
“She’s okay now, I think,” I say, but I don’t think she’s okay. I know she is.
Stacks pushes the keys into the ignition as Tye drops into his seat beside Tegan and tosses a cheeseburger to each of us.
“Good looking out,” I say with a wink.
He knows I mean more than the food, but he just shrugs and says, “Don’t mention it.”
The van rumbles to life, and Stacks shouts at the stragglers to get a move on.
Once we’re all accounted for, the wheels roll forward, and we’re off to the next city.
Before Tegan came along, the drive to the next town was when I’d get my next sad story ready for the next set of schmucks. Not today, though.
Today, all I can think about is the next time I’ll get to experience Tegan. If I’m not careful, she might derail my focus and cause problems with my plan. If I can get her on board and make her part of it, though? Well, I might just have a new plan in mind.
