Chapter Fifteen
Ω Bronx Ω
Chief Knight grilled me the entire lunch. Blakely thought it was funny. I knew that he was doing it because he wants to try and spook me. Like I’d ever let him scare me away from my butterfly. I know I have a lot to prove to him.
But Blakely is worth it. I’m not going to let her very protective, very terrifying dad let me lose her again.
I rub the side of my face. I don’t know what happened earlier. It’s like I saw him and the old habits that I worked so hard to quit came back. Provoking him when I was younger was fun. He’d get so angry, but I knew he was just protecting his daughter.
“What makes you think I would ever approve of you being with my daughter?”
He hated it when I said no one would ever be good enough for her. And I meant it.
Blakely is like the sunshine in a dark world. She tries so hard to make sure everyone around her is well taken care of. She cares so deeply and loves so hard. I don’t know how I got lucky enough to be one of the people she cares so much about, but I don’t want to lose it again.
I leave the spot in the garage for Blakely. She told me that she was going to head over to my place after heading to get her laptop from her house. I walk into my house and am greeted by Kal-El. This dude sure knows how to hide.
“What’s up, buddy?” I say to him when he jumps up on the counter to greet me.
He purrs as he rubs his head against my arm. I have four days before my next shift and a lot I could get done. Will I actually get those things done? Probably some of them.
Kal-El jumps off the counter and runs upstairs. I’m assuming my bedroom to lay in my window. That’s one of his favorite spots.
I walk into my living room and look at the half done paint. I could start on this tomorrow so that by time I need to go in for another shift, I can at least have the living room done.
“You really had to come into the lunch with a really cocky attitude? I don’t want my dad to hate you,” Blakely complains to me. “It’s like you tried everything to get him to be irritated with you.”
“What?”
I answered everything he could’ve possibly asked me. I didn’t lie. I didn’t even tell him he had to stop asking me questions.
“The hickey. Give him a slight attitude when you first sit down?” Blakely explains to me.
I smirk at her. “I can’t help it. He’s so easy to provoke.” I’m going to pay for it. I know. But it was worth it. “Don’t worry. I’m going to stop trying to provoke him. You can’t blame me when he gets mad at me for just existing, though.”
Blakely sighs and puts down her stuff on the table. “I know. But you’ve gotta try to not give him things to be irritated about, okay? I want him to like you.” She walks over to me and wraps her arms around me. “Can you try for me? Please?”
I nod, wrap my arms around her and pull her closer to me. “Yes… I will try for you, butterfly.” The smell of her perfume fills my lungs.
Lavender and vanilla. She smells amazing.
“Good… Thank you.” Blakely steps away from our hug. “Now. Do you want to finish the living room?”
“Nope.” I lean down and throw her over my shoulder.
“Hey!” She laughs as I stand to my full height.
I just want to go back to bed, but I want her beside me. There’s just something about her being in my bed that makes it feel like home.
“I want to go to bed, and I want you with me.” If she can tell me that I’m going to lunch with her father, then I’m telling her she’s laying with me.
“I have work to do!” she complains as I walk up the stairs.
I tighten my arm around her thighs so she doesn’t think to wiggle out of my grip. That’s all I would need. To have to call the ambulance because I dropped her on her head down the stairs.
“That can be done tomorrow,” I tell her and toss her on my bed.
Blakely laughs. “You can sleep without me.”
I reach behind me and yank off my shirt. “I could. But I don’t want to. It’s comfy sleeping in bed with you.” I climb into bed beside her.
“I have a question before you go to bed,” she tells me.
“Before we go to bed,” I correct her.
Blakely smirks. “Do you remember when we were in high school? And we made a pact…” She fidgets on my bed.
I stare at her for a second. I remember us star gazing. She was opening up to me about how she was worried that no one was going to marry her. We made a pact that if we were both single by the age of twenty-five that we would get married to each other.
It was my entire plan to have asked her out and to be mine… But that plan went out the window.
“That we would get married at twenty-five if we were both still single?” I finish for her.
“Yeah. But I was wondering if you don’t want to marry me… we could change that…o where we just have a baby together?” Blakely blurts out.
I stare at her. What did she just say to me? We just started hanging out again.
“I’m going to need you to repeat yourself and dumb it down for me.”
She wants to have a baby with me but not marry me?
