Chapter Twenty Six

The next day, Bronx is still sleeping, but I have things to do. Well… I don’t need to do them, but I wanted to work on taking a few things off of Bronx’s plate so he doesn’t stress so much.
I’m an excellent multitasker. So, while I’m painting I call Charlie to make sure she’s happy with the proposal I sent over to her. She’s not a difficult client. She just wants everything to be perfect.
I roll the deep red paint on the wall slowly to make sure it’s evenly coated. “Everything looks pretty good here…” Charlie mumbles as I hear her clicking on her laptop. “I like it. I’ll send everything over to Alexander just so he can approve everything.”
I snort. He’s going to approve anything that she sends to him. I already know it. “Why are you laughing?” Charlie asks me.
I smirk. “Because. In the amount of time I’ve known you and Alexander, he has never once told you no.” He’s obsessed with her.
“That is not true!” Charlie laughs. “He tells me no.”
“I don’t even have to look at your face to know you’re lying.” I shake my head and step down the ladder to roll more paint on the roller.
“Okay. I won’t send it over to him. I know he’ll love everything. Are you going to make the website?” Charlie asks.
After I get more paint, I get back on the ladder to finish up the top of the wall.
“I could. My original plan was going to be having the web designer that works for me do it. She does all of our websites and does it fairly quickly. I haven’t worked on a website in a hot minute, so I trust she’d do it better. ”
“Okay. That sounds like a good idea. What’s your plans for today?” Charlie keeps typing on her keyboard.
“I don’t know yet. I’m going to wait to decide that when Bronx wakes up. I’m at his place,” I tell her.
It’s not a secret. I’m not ashamed to admit to her where I am.
“Oh? Girl. You’ve been staying over there a lot. How are things going with him?” Charlie asks excitedly.
“It’s… great. Nothing short of amazing, honestly. I really like being here and with him. It’s nice.” It’s peaceful being in the moment with him.
“Have you guys had sex yet?” Charlie’s question nearly makes me fall off the ladder I’m on.
“Charlotte!” I manage to right myself. “I don’t ask you if you and Alex have sex. Why are you asking me that?” I’m not talking about this. Nope. I don’t want to.
“I’m just curious. Seems like you guys are getting really close.” Charlie snickers.
“Oh my gosh, I’m hanging up on you.” I drop my roller onto the plastic wrap I have on the floor.
Bronx told me he got all new flooring already before he decided he wanted to paint the living room, so I’m trying really hard to not get anything on the carpet.
“What’re you doing?” Bronx asks out of nowhere.
My heart skips a beat. I gasp. I feel the ladder rock before I don’t feel it anymore. I hear the ladder crash against the floor.
I’m falling. The room spins, and I’m preparing to hit the ground hard.
Instead, I feel strong arms catch me before I can hit the ground. Bronx tightens his arms around me and glares at me. “You need to have a spotter when you’re on a ladder. Are you okay?!” Bronx asks quickly before setting me on the couch.
“I’m okay…” I take my earbuds out and shove them in my pocket. “You scared me. I was getting down off the ladder anyway.”
Bronx runs his hands over my body one limb at a time. “You should’ve waited. I could’ve done the part up by the ceiling instead of you.” He looks frazzled.
I put my hands on his cheeks and turn his face to me. “I’m okay, B. I promise. You caught me before I could fall. Nothing bad happened to me.” I lean my forehead against his.
Bronx is quiet for a moment. He takes a deep breath in. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I just saw you falling, and… it scared me.” He lets out a shaky breath.
I smile at him. “It’s okay. Accidents happen. But hey, after the paint is dried, we can move the furniture back to where you want it.”
“To where we want it.”
I tilt my head at him. “Huh?”
“We can move the furniture back to where we want it. I want you to like where the furniture goes. I want you to like it here.” Bronx sits beside me on the couch. “You practically live here.”
I laugh. “I stay over here. It doesn’t mean I live here.”
“But you could.” Bronx doesn’t look or sound like he’s joking.
I blink at him. “Are you asking me to move in with you?” Is he really asking me that?
“Yes, butterfly. I’m asking if you’d move in with me.
Or I can move in with you. I don’t really care whose house we live in as long as we get to live together.
” Bronx takes my hand and squeezes it. “I’m not messing with you, butterfly.
This is what I want… I don’t think it’s too soon. I want to be with you. All the time.”
I start respond to him, but I hear a siren that grabs my attention. “What’s going on?” I ask, turning on the couch to look out of the window. I see my dad’s Bronco come to a stop in the driveway.
“What’s your dad doing here?”
