Chapter Twenty Eight

Ω Blakely Ω

I can barely hear him gagging in the bathroom. He didn’t tell me he was feeling sick. Was it something I said? I knock on the door again. I want to be in there with him.

“Bronx… Please let me in…”

I know it’s useless to keep asking, but I don’t want him to feel alone.

“Go away, Blakely,” Bronx snaps at me.

I sigh. He always was super touchy when he was sick. He doesn’t like being the sick one.

I walk back into the living room and shrug. “I don’t know what’s wrong with him.”

“Has that ever happened before?” my dad asks me.

“I don’t think so.” I’ve never noticed it before today.

“Hmm…” My dad looks like he knows something I don’t.

“What?”

My dad smiles at me and stands up. “What have I always told you about my job?”

“You’ve told me a lot about your job. I think the first one is that you never wanted me to follow in your footsteps.” It’s true.

He told me that he would support me if that’s what I really wanted to do, but he never wanted me to do it just because he did it. He was a firefighter before he was a paramedic. I think I made him change career paths. It’s less dangerous for paramedics in his eyes.

My dad laughs. “That’s true. But think, princess. What have I always said when we talked about my shifts?” he asks me.

“Paramedics see a lot more than firefighters?” I ask.

“You’re right… Some shifts are harder than others. Some patients never leave you….” He trails off. “I may not like him, but I get what he’s going through, if that’s what this is. I believe it is.”

I tilt my head at him. “I didn’t think you’d ever want to be nice to him.”

Not that he sounded like he really cares, but… I know when it comes down to it, my dad is a big softy. He just doesn’t care for certain people to be around me.

My dad chuckles. “I’m not being nice to him.

I’m giving advice to my daughter about the knowledge I have about paramedics.

There’s a difference, princess. I can’t stand him.

You could have anyone you want and you still chose him.

” My dad rolls his eyes. “I scare him on and off the job. I’ll take it. ”

I giggle. “He’s not awful… He’s changed a lot since high school. I wouldn’t be with him if he acted like he acted in school.”

I know that he had a bit of a reputation then, but he’s grown up. He’s matured.

“He’s not good enough for my daughter. There’s very little that will change my mind about that. princess.” My dad winks and kisses my forehead. “You’ll come first. Always. I don’t care about his feelings. How about you come over for dinner later?”

I grin at him, and he rolls his eyes. “Miller can come if you want.”

I laugh and hug him. “I’ll ask him. But yes, I would love to come over for dinner. I love you, dad.”

“I love you, princess.” He walks out of the front door and heads to his Bronco.

Bronx walks out of the hallway as soon as the front door closes. “He’s always going to hate me. I don’t know why you chose to be with me…” He mumbles before heading to the kitchen.

I blink at his retreating form. How did we go from talking about moving to this? What happened in that bathroom?

“Hey. I feel that’s a little uncalled for. What happened in the bathroom?” I ask.

Obviously something had to have happened. His mood changed so drastically.

“Nothing, Blakely. I’m fine.” He grunts out and opens the fridge. “I’m just stating the obvious. Your dad hates my guts. He thinks I’m that same punk kid I was in high school.”

I sit on the counter. “Okay. If that’s what you want to think, we should just call it off now, right? No use in trying to stay together.” I hop off of the counter and head towards his bedroom to get my things.

I know he’s just in a bad mood. He doesn’t mean anything he’s saying, but I don’t think it’s fair to me to have him take his bad mood out on me. I hear his footsteps behind me.

“No use in trying to get him to change his mind.” I throw open his bedroom door, and his white cat darts out.

I’ve been staying over for weeks now. I barely ever see his cat.

“We won’t move in together. We won’t have a baby together. I’ll go out with other people.”

I hear Bronx growl before I feel his arms wrap tightly around my waist. He presses his chest to my back and shoves his nose into my hair.

“You’ve made your point,” he rumbles. I grin.

I figured it would be easy to make my point.

“I don’t want you leaving me.” He kisses behind my ear before biting my earlobe.

“I’m sorry, butterfly… I…” Bronx kisses my neck.

I tilt my head to the side so he could have more room. “Feel free to make it up to me…” I tell him.

I want him. I want him badly. I feel Bronx’s chuckle in his chest before he picks me up and places me on the bed. He climbs on top of me.

“How do you want me to make it up to you, butterfly?” He’s shirtless already. He never sleeps with a shirt on. He hates the feeling of it.

I lean up and kiss his lips. “However you think is best…” I wrap my arms around the back of his neck.

Bronx leans down so our faces were an inch apart. “Tell me to stop…” His voice is rougher than usual.

“I don’t want you to ever stop,” I promise him.

Bronx groans before kissing me like I’m his only way to get oxygen.
