Chapter Thirty Two

Ω Bronx Ω

(Two Months Later)

It’s been the best two months with Blakely. We finally have her moved fully into our home. We’ve slowly been making my house into our home, and I couldn’t be happier.

I just need to figure out a way to get her dad to like me. I feel something hit the side of my head. I glare at Alexander. “What was that for?”

“You’re completely ignoring me talking to you.

What are you thinking about?” Alexander asks.

I grin. “If it was some sort of dirty sex thing with Blakely, do not tell me.” Alexander shakes his head.

“I spend far too much time with her dad. I would accidentally let it slip to him and get you murdered.”

My mouth drops open. “Chief Knight does not hate me that much.” Alexander cocks an eyebrow at me. “Okay. He hates me, but he wouldn’t kill me. No matter how much he might want to sometimes.” I grab my water bottle and take a drink.

We’re setting up Blakely’s booth at some book signing thing… I don’t know a lot about this book stuff, but I ordered copies of her book. They got here right in time. I haven’t quite talked about it to Blakely, yet, but I’m sure everything will be fine.

She used to talk about writing books all the time. I want to encourage her to get back into it. I also have a backup plan. If she doesn’t want to do it, Charlotte said she’ll do the event in her stead.

“How are you doing with your break from work?” Alexander asks.

I turn to look at him. “It’s been… honestly, better than I thought it would be. I feel less stressed out. Sirens have stopped making me feel like I’m going to have a panic attack. I like just getting to be at home with Blakely.”

Blakely has changed my life completely. She’s like coming up for fresh air. When I messed up my knee… I thought I didn’t have a future. Everything felt lost to me.

No matter how much I tried, Blakely never left my mind. She’s been my saving grace even when I distanced myself from her.

“That’s good. Do you think you’ll go back to being a paramedic?”

That’s the age-old question. Am I going back? Do I even want to go back? I love being a paramedic. I love helping people.

“I think I will eventually. I have to meet up with Chief Knight to check in, but I think I’ll go back soon… I miss the guys and the job, but I’m also enjoying being with Blakely.”

I’ve never enjoyed being around someone as much as I do her. She’s the only reason why I’m okay.

Charlotte walks up to us next and looks at the table that we just set up. “Do you two know nothing about setting up a display?”

I look at the table and shrug. “It’s books. You see them. I don’t know what more you want from me. I don’t know anything about this stuff.”

Charlotte crosses her arms and tilts her head at Alex. He grins at her, and her cheeks flush.

“I’m sorry, my love…” He leans down and kisses her neck. “I’ll make it up to you later. Oliver is at his friend's house for the night.”

“Did you guys ever find out if she’s pregnant?” I ask.

Charlotte laughs. “I’m not even surprised that you told him. Anyway, no. I’m not pregnant.”

“But we are trying,” Alexander adds.

I chuckle. “Well you guys are great parents to Oliver. Adding more to the bunch would be great.”

Being an only child sucks sometimes. My phone rings. I answer it.

“Hi, handsome,” Blakely’s sweet voice fills the call.

“Hi, butterfly. What's up?”

“I was wondering if you want to meet me to get some ice cream? Or I can pick some stuff up on my way home?”

I groan. I love it when she says home.

“No, butterfly. You head home, and I’ll stop by to get some snacks and get dinner. How was work today?” I wave bye to Charlotte and Alexander so I can head to my car.

“Boring. Just the weekly meeting of hearing that everyone is ahead of schedule and everything is going great.” Blakely laughs. “I don’t know why they keep inviting me. I could understand going in for a specific meeting or whatever, but I just feel like it's a waste of time.”

I hear Blakely’s door shut. “Did you lock your doors?” I ask.

Blakely laughs. “Yes. I locked my doors. Everything is fine, Bronx. You don’t have to worry so much. I would’ve had more fun with you definitely."

“Same here, butterfly. I worry because I care. I want my girlfriend to be safe.”

I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to her.

“I think my battery is dead…” She mumbles. “I keep clicking the button and nothing is happening.”

“Again? I thought your dad got that fixed?”

I could’ve sworn he did. He took it to Alexander. Alex wouldn’t have let it leave his shop if it wasn't in the best condition it could’ve been.

“He did. I’m pushing the button and nothing is happening. I can call him.”

I chuckle. I don’t think he’ll ever let me live it down if I don’t show up for her right now. “I’m in town. I’ll head your way now. Stop trying to start it.”

“Okay. I’m still going to call my dad,” Blakely tells me like I didn’t know she was going to do that.

“I would expect nothing less, butterfly. I would’ve called him if you didn’t. I don’t want him worrying about his little princess.”

“I love you.”

“I love you, babe. I’ll see you in a minute.” I hang up with her and get in my car.

I thought I was going to have some time before she needed a new car. Maybe I’ll go back to work sooner rather than later.
