Chapter Forty Three

I snuck out of the meeting early. They didn’t need me there, and I was bored. We’re supposed to move into our house today. Bronx said he was feeling a lot better, so he was willing to go and help.
As soon as I get in my new Bronco, my phone vibrates with a text.
I laugh. Okay… I don’t think I’ve ever told him the place where I knew I loved him. We were out on a hike. It was the whole team, but we ended up wandering off by ourselves. I loved every second of it.

I’m glad my dad got me a Bronco. It makes driving up to the forest area a lot easier. I pull into the parking space beside Bronx’s 4runner and get out. I head to the trail and start trekking to the spot we walked through when we were teenagers.
I start seeing red roses scattered along the ground. Okay… that’s odd. Maybe someone is proposing out here. I wonder if Alex is proposing to Charlotte! That would be so precious.
I hear music playing the deeper I get into the woods. Like I’m Gonna Lose You by Meghan Trainer plays loudly. I see random pictures of me and Bronx in high school.
Some of these pictures, I’ve never seen before… He’s staring at me like I’m the only thing that matters to him. My face feels warm. My eyes water. Drawings of me are sat in the mixture of our pictures. I hear the music change to recordings.
Boy laughter quiets before Bronx’s voice filters through. “Don’t go near Blakely Knight. She’s off limits. She’s mine.”
“You aren’t dating her. You can’t claim her,” someone else speaks up.
“I can. I will. If I find out you’re trying to ask her out, I’ll end you. I’m going to marry her one day. I promise you that.” Bronx sounds so determined in this clip.
My heart skips a beat when I finally lay eyes on him. He’s standing in the exact spot we sat and talked for hours. His eyes water as he smiles at me.
“I knew from the moment I met you that I loved you. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. You brought me a sense of peace, love, joy, and happiness that I never got to experience before you. You made sure I was taken care of. You had your dad spend time with me. You made sure I wasn’t alone.
” Bronx pauses and holds his hand out to me.
I’m quick to walk over to him and hold it.
“I lost who I was when I was younger; when I injured my knee so badly that the future that I thought I needed was gone.”
“You thought?” I whisper. I can barely talk right now.
“Yes, butterfly. The one I thought I needed. Because a job doesn’t matter to me.
Being in the NFL doesn’t matter to me. What matters is being with you; having a family with you.
It’s spending the rest of my life with you; showing you that you’re my best friend.
You’re the only woman in the entire world that I want to be with.
” Bronx gets down on one knee, digs into his pocket, and pulls out a box.
He opens it, and I gasp. The diamonds on the ring sparkle in the sunlight.
“Butterfly would you do me the greatest honor in becoming my wife? Will you marry me?”
Tears fall down my face. “Yes. A million times yes!” I tell him.
He gets up quickly and kisses me. I can practically feel all of his love in his lips. The only thing that makes me pull away is the feel of him sliding my ring on my finger.
“I have another thing to tell you…” I whisper against his lips.
Bronx’s face lights up. I’ve never seen such a big smile on his face before. “Please tell me you’re pregnant! If you’re not pregnant, don’t tell me. I’ve got my hopes up now and will only be disappointed, butterfly…” He playfully pouts.
I laugh. “I’m pregnant.”
Bronx spins me around and dips me. “You’ve made me the happiest man in the entire world. Thank you…”
He leans down and kisses me gently. Less rushed, more love in this one. I feel his tongue dip into my mouth, and I let him take control.
This is where I want to be for the rest of my life.
