Chapter Six

BELLAMY ROSE

“Tag! You're it!” my best friend yelled before she took off running in the opposite direction. When she got halfway, she shifted into a beautiful gray wolf.

I couldn’t let my best friend out do me when I was the oldest out of the two of us.

She was only younger than me by a few months, but I was still the oldest. My wolf was on the shyer side, and I was working on getting her to become more comfortable with coming out.

At fifteen years old, I should have been able to shift at will by now.

My mom often encouraged me when I felt discouraged, and my dad would take me to the fields whenever I wanted to practice shifting.

I had been able to shift a few times, but the attention that was brought to me whenever I shifted made me and my wolf nervous.

Every shifter who laid eyes on my wolf marveled at my fur.

Said it had to be a sign of blessing from Fate.

I hated the attention my wolf got, and so did my wolf.

The only time my wolf felt the most comfortable to come out was when my best friend was around.

My wolf was as close to her wolf as we were.

Both of our moms were a part of the Gaurendeir Bloodline, which made them sisters in a sense.

My best friend and I were both part wolf and part Mage.

Our moms were best friends growing up, so it was only right that their kids became best friends.

My best friend’s mom had been behaving oddly, and my mom hadn’t been wanting me to go over their house as much as I normally did. My mom would never explain what was going on, but she’d tell me to be wary. Staying away from my best friend wasn't going to happen, though.

My best friend was helping me find my confidence, and I didn’t know what I would do without her.

She had a carefree spirit I loved. Nothing scared her.

Her wolf was just the same. The confidence her wolf had made my wolf feel secure.

Seeing my best friend easily shift gave me the determination to follow suit.

Running at my fastest, I fully relaxed, my focus on catching up to my bestie, and I allowed my wolf to come forward.

Snow white fur sprung out my skin as I began to shift into my wolf. Yes! I was able to shift at will. My wolf and I were filled with joy as we chased after our best friend’s wolf, running through the tall grass until we saw the fluffy gray tail swaying in front of us.

“You did it!” my best friend mindspoke with me. “I’m so proud of you.”

“Thank you,” we bashfully replied as we were still chasing behind my cousin when her wolf stopped running outta nowhere with her head turned to the west with alert. “Something is wrong.” We could hear the worry in their voice.

Stopping our pursuit, we stood next to her, not moving a muscle to see if we could hear what had alarmed her.

“Aaaahhhh.”

Hearing a male scream in pain, we took off in the direction of the scream, running as fast as we could. We sprinted through the small forest through the clearing until we came to a dirt path, and the unmistakable scent of blood hit our noses.

“Wait!” I called to my best friend through mindspeak. She was about to run into the woods without knowing what was in there. “Maybe we should get help,” I tried to reason. We weren’t the strongest wolves, and there had been a lot of reports of rogue shifters in the area.

“No. My parents are in danger. I can smell their scent faintly through the blood,” my cousin defiantly said before sprinting down the dirt path.

Letting out a sigh of aggravation, we followed behind my cousin.

The further down the path we went, the stronger the scent of blood became.

The fact that my cousin could smell anything beyond blood was a testament to how strong her wolf’s nose was.

My cousin’s wolf let out a roar that couldn’t be mistaken as anything but sorrow.

I sprinted at full speed to catch up to her before stumbling onto a sight I could barely comprehend.

There was so much blood, it looked like the ground was made from blood instead of dirt.

In the middle, my aunt was covered in blood with a deranged smile on her face.

She looked at us with glee, no sign of fear on her face.

“My Snookie Pooh. This isn’t how I wanted you to find out.” The malevolent smile on her face sent chills down my spine. Hearing my cousin’s cries of pain, we felt helpless. We didn’t know what to do.

We tried to go over to my cousin to comfort her.

With every step we took in her direction, she seemed further from us, until we broke out in a sprint, chasing her image as everything changed into blackness.

I reached out in one last effort to grab my cousin.

Frowning, I realized I was back in my human form.

Confusion started to settle in as I looked at my hand.

I’m not a wolf, I told myself. I didn’t have any cousins. What the hell was that dream?

“It’s time for you to remember.” Teeny appeared in front of me.

“Remember what?” I asked in frustration.

“Who you are,” Teeny replied calmly.

“I know who I am. I’m Bellamy Rose. A human. My mom died in a fire. I never knew my dad. Shifters killed my fiancé.”

“You know nothing, silly child. Your mom is alive. She is waiting on you.”

“You’re lying,” I gritted out with a frown. I knew for a fact my mom died in a fire. Whatever this lady was talking about was either a lie or she had me confused with someone else.

“Listen with your heart, and you will hear.”

“My heart doesn’t have ears.” I couldn’t help but bunch my face up at the foolishness coming out of her mouth.

“But it does. Learn to use it to listen. Then all will be revealed.” She winked at me before disappearing in a flash.

Springing forward as I awakened, I frantically looked around, my vision blurry. Toasted vanilla flowed through my nose.

He’s ours.

Squeezing my eyes tightly and then opening them, I frantically tried to locate the voice that sounded like an echo coming from my body.

Slowly, my eyesight became clear, and everything seemed weird.

Colors were brighter, and everything around me seemed sharper.

It was like I was seeing things with a new clarity.

My eyes bounced around the room, feeling like this was my first time seeing everything.

I inhaled deeply, needing to get another smell of that delicious toasted vanilla scent.

He’s ours, that voice said again, scaring me. I felt like I had an entirely new nose because I could smell things I couldn’t even see.

Looking to my left, I came face to face with Kenzo. It dawned on me that he was the one who carried the toasted vanilla scent.

I want him. I had to be losing my mind, hearing voices of people who weren’t here.

“You had us worried.”

Hearing Kenzo’s deep baritone voice caused my entire body to tingle in ways I couldn’t comprehend. The desire to be close to him was growing the longer I looked at him. I could feel my pussy reacting to his gaze. Cramps were slowly pulsing through my stomach.

“Halo!” Kenzo yelled with a worried expression.

I found myself growing angry upon hearing Kenzo call for another female.

My fists clenched while thinking about him having another bitch here when I was right here.

I’m not supposed to care. But I did. I had to be going crazy from being around shifters for so long.

I couldn’t understand if I should have been mad or horny right now.

Too many emotions were flowing through my body right now.

I heard, “Here I am,” from a voice that caused peace to settle in my spirit before the face of a beautiful woman came floating into the room with a glass in her hand. The female paused, looking at me with squinted eyes, and I matched her gaze.

I knew her, but I didn’t know how. She was special.

I felt it in my heart. I miss you, the voice from inside me said again, but somehow, I knew she wasn’t talking to me this time.

The girl frowned as she stepped all the way into the room, quickly closing the distance between us and standing in front of me as I sat in the middle of a giant bed.

Tears fell from her eyes, and she tried to wipe them away. “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I’m crying. It’s my wolf. She’s reacting to your presence. We don’t know why, though. There's something blocking our memory. Do you know us?”

Before I could reply, a tall man with dreads rushed through the bedroom door. “Halo, what the hell is wrong? Why are you crying?” he asked while coming to her side and trying to wrap his arms around her, but she pushed him off her.

“I’m fine, Creeland. My wolf. She’s acting out,” Halo answered Creeland while briefly looking up at him before focusing back on me. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to scare you. Can I…umm. My wolf wants a hug. Can I hug you?” Halo asked me with a nervous expression.

I looked at Kenzo. I didn’t know why, but I felt like I should get his approval first. I don’t need his approval. I can do what I want. That was what my mind said, but I dared not turn from him until he nodded his head yes.

“Yes,” a voice that didn’t sound like my own said.

Halo handed Creeland the glass that was in her hand before she crawled onto the bed, rushing toward me.

As she was on her knees in front of me, we stared at each other again before we both reached for one another, hugging tightly.

The familiarity and comfort I felt in that moment was something I had no idea I was missing, but I was.

I missed you too. That voice didn’t come from me.

It came from Halo, even though she never opened her mouth. I heard her speak.

“You know my mate?” Kenzo asked as we reluctantly let go of each other.

“I think we do,” Halo responded, but my mind was stuck on Kenzo calling me his mate. We are his mate, that voice said proudly, and I could feel my pussy begin to pulse again.
