Chapter 15 Bellamy Rose #2
Although I was nervous about this Prophecy stuff and all the crazy-ass Snake shifters trying to come after me, that wasn’t enough to stop me from digging deeper into my life.
I couldn’t wait to meet my sister and father.
Being an only child never seemed to sit right with me.
The time I did spend with Venus, I loathed being an only child.
I always said I was supposed to have a sister.
I prayed that Brynlee and I got along when we finally did meet.
It was crazy how the things I always wanted were coming to fruition.
It wasn’t happening how I expected, but nevertheless, they were happening, and I was looking forward to all of it, even Kenzo’s aggravating ass.
“Sooo, Bellamy, anything specific that you want to get into today? That was my last patient for the day,” Halo asked as she walked over to me with a smile on her face. I could see the back of the shifter she was just treating walking out the door.
I shrugged my shoulders. I really didn’t have anything in mind.
Kenzo was pissed at me. He’d stormed out on me earlier after we argued about going to the Sanctuary of Life for the millionth time.
Kenzo was helping Cree and his brothers do something I didn’t even care to listen to.
He’d pissed me off so bad, I tuned him out after he told me no.
I didn’t know how long Kenzo would be out.
“I’m open to anything, as long as it keeps me away from Kenzo,” I said while pouting at the thought of Kenzo. I wasn’t sure if him being pissed at me or me being pissed at him was bothering me more.
“Aww, he’s still not letting up about going to the Sanctuary?” Halo asked before stopping a few feet from where I was seated behind her desk.
“Nope. He won’t even listen to me when I try to explain my reasons. He shut me down as soon as I opened my mouth.” I let out a dejected sigh.
“I know you don’t understand how fated mates work, but let me tell you, when it comes to seeing your mate with another.
.. Tuh! It will have the sanest shifter acting crazy.
” Halo pressed her lips together with a knowing look in her eyes.
“And you two haven’t fully mated yet. Ha!
Creeland barely liked me tending to unmated shifters before we completed our mating bond. ”
“I’m so sick of hearing about this mating bond stuff.” I smacked my lips dramatically while rolling my eyes to the ceiling. “Sex can’t be that damn deep. I mean, so what if we haven’t had sex yet?”
I rolled my eyes again upon seeing the smirk on Halo’s face. Maybe I didn’t like Halo as much as I thought I did.
Liar.
Hush, I snapped back at my wolf.
“If you think a Fated Mate bond is solely about sex, you are sadly mistaken. It is so much deeper than sex. You are connecting your souls together as one, bonding your animals together for life. Everything you feel, he will feel and vice versa. The love you get from your fated mate will never be comparable to anything on this planet. Having the gift of being with your fated mate makes you feel like you can do anything. You’d be ready to take on Fate just to keep your mate.
You see how before you knew you were a shifter you couldn’t resist Kenzo? ”
“I did damn near rape him,” I chuckled as I blushed lightly while thinking back to the day I first met Kenzo.
“That’s the fated mate bond. No matter what you do, you can’t fight it. The pull is too strong, and your animals will only go so long without being with y’all’s mate.”
“Okay, so what if, for whatever reason, you don’t want to be with your fated mate?
There's nothing you can do? Like, what if you hate your mate or they did something evil to you? It doesn’t seem right for you to have to be with someone you can’t choose on your own.
” I frowned while thinking about not being able to pick the person I spent the rest of my life with.
I mean, it probably would’ve still been Kenzo, but that wasn’t the point.
Everyone should have had a say-so in who they were with.
“It gets no better than your fated mate. I promise. No human or shifter would be a better pick. Would you pick someone other than Kenzo to be with?” Halo asked me with a raised eyebrow.
Pressing my lips together, I diverted my eyes.
I wasn’t going to give Halo the satisfaction of hearing me say yes. “Exactly,” Halo said sarcastically.
“Again, you can’t be with anyone other than your fated mate?”
“There are only a few things that can break a fated mate bond, and they come with a heavy cost. It takes a heart full of evil to reject your mate,” Halo said with a far-off expression as she looked past me.
“Or maybe they love someone else more,” I rebutted.
“No such thing. Rejecting your mate causes both of you an immense amount of pain, to the point it can drive a shifter to go rogue. Or some sacrifice them to gain power, but they have to carry the pain of their mate dying at their hands.”
“I guess that means I’m stuck with Kenzo.” I smirked, trying to lighten the mood. I hadn’t talked to Halo in detail, but I did know her mom killed her dad, and I was sure that was on her mind.
Letting out a sigh, Halo gave me a half smile. “Cut him some slack. Bellum was a hot mess. I can only imagine what it felt like to think your mate was a whore. Him and his bear are probably feeling extra protective.”
“Was she really that bad?” I was curious about my evil twin, Bellum. The way everyone acted like she was the biggest whore in the world threw me. If she came from me, she should have been far from promiscuous.
“I mean, most of the pack has had a piece of her. Not Creeland or Declan. Yves has, which is why Zamiyah feels intimidated whenever you’re around. Bellum was something else.” Halo chuckled.
“Why would Kenzo stay with Bellum knowing how she was?” The frown on my face couldn’t be hidden. I didn’t like the thought of Kenzo being with anyone else other than me.
“He thought she was his fated mate, and he loved her despite what he knew. Bears are very loyal to their mates.”
“I guess. I still don’t see the big deal with the fated mates.” I shrugged.
“Have you seen Kenzo around another woman?”
“Nope, and I wouldn’t care. I’ve never been the insecure type.”
“Sure, you aren’t.” Halo side eyed me with a mischievous smirk. “I’m hungry. Are you hungry?”
“I can eat. What do you have in mind?” I cautiously responded. I had no idea what Halo had up her sleeve, but I knew she was up to something.
“Cool. I wanna stop by Amaree’s to check on A'Miracle. Then we can change at my house and go to this cute little lounge in town.” Halo had a sneaky look in her eyes as she paused momentarily like she was thinking before she waved for me to follow her.
I got up, reluctantly following behind Halo and praying she wasn’t leading me into something crazy.
