32. Dax #2
“Fine, take all my fun away from me, why don’t you.
” Dante huffed. “As a father, I knew I needed to do something to help him, but first I had to figure out what Rainbow Bright was up to. It didn’t take much more than six months to find out about her brother and what really happened and not what they put in the papers.
As I told her, it did take me a while longer to figure out the long game and the fact that she was Two Tricks, and baby, that stand in you had in the early years was awful.
I’m glad you got rid of him before he ruined the whole thing.
Now, knowing the criminal world like I do and what it takes to survive, I might have suggested a way that Cameron could be of help to you and when the time was right, swoop in and save the princess from getting locked away forever. ” Dante proclaimed.
“Are you trying to tell us he’s been watching Dax’s back this whole time? He joined the FBI to be her double agent when the time came and that he isn’t trying to fuck her over?” Picasso asked, breaking it down to bare bones.
“Child, isn’t that what I just said? You need to listen better,” Dante tutted.
“When I scraped my son off the floor of the house he bought for the two of them, I brought him home for a spell. That’s when I did my research and figured everything out, during that time he stopped trying to fight who I raised him to be and what he was born to do and accepted it wholeheartedly.
When he went back to school, he did everything he could to catch the eye of the FBI and it worked.
He got recruited and used the whole ‘my father’s a criminal and I want to be the good guy’ bit to reel them in.
Once they were on the hook and the Hidden Empire was well underway, he was the ever-loyal knight working in the shadows.
We both agreed that now was the time to pull back the curtain and let Dorothy meet the wizard, because you’ve had too many close calls, young lady, getting shot like that. ”
All my guys looked completely blown away by what they were hearing right now. “Welcome to the mind of the master con artist, guys.”
“So, we just believe that and forget everything that’s happened so far?” Wes argued.
“Weston Price is that you?” Dante cooed. “Son, I know you aren’t fixin’ to slight her against my boy now. He’s grown up and learned a lot over the past eight years. He hasn’t even slept with another woman since Dax, so you can take the mother hen act and stuff it.”
“Wes, you know his father?” Void asked.
“Yeah, I know that man, and this type of fucked-up crazy-ass mental twister is right up his alley,” Wes grumbled.
“You say the nicest things, Weston,” Dante preened. “Now I’m gonna hang up, but if you need anything, Dax darling, you just let me know.”
Picasso flopped onto the table and banged his head against it twice. “How did this shit get even more confusing? Is he good or is he bad? Do we believe him and his weird ass southern bell of a father or not?”
I stood and walked into the kitchen grabbing one of the knives from the block on the counter and meandered over to where Cam was sitting.
My gaze flicked to Void and gave a slight nod when I saw he knew exactly what I was going to do.
Fast as lightning, Void struck, slamming Cam’s head into the table, stunning him before locking him into a choke hold.
I used the knife to cut away all his clothes, leaving him naked, making my search for any kind of tracker or listening device on him easier.
I knew on the black market there were adhesive listening patches that could record sound and be played back later.
Scouring every inch of him, I didn’t find anything that would lead me to believe he was playing us.
I tossed the clothes to Sprocket who started to look over them for the same thing.
Taking Cam’s dick and balls in hand, I tucked the knife right up under them where they connected to his body. Looking him right in those amber eyes that I thought I could read so well, I demanded answers.
“Are you loyal to the FBI?”
“No. I’m loyal to you and you alone.”
“What about your father? Are you loyal to him, hmm, would you turn me over if he asked you too?”
“Never, I’m grateful to him for everything, but I would sooner let you cut off my balls than give you up to anyone.”
“Do you believe that if I discover you’re lying to me about anything I will kill you without hesitation?”
“Yes, I would expect nothing less from Two Tricks, Queen of the Hidden Empire.”
I glanced at the others over my shoulder. “Anyone else have a question?”
“Yeah, I got one,” Eagle said, standing up and walking up behind me, hands on my hips. “Are you expecting to become one of her men? By that, I mean those of us who are in a committed relationship and would die to protect her, whether she wants you to or not?”
“If she granted me that honor… yes. I pray to one day be counted as one of her men,” Cam answered, looking down at me, no longer hiding behind any walls or charade, just revealing his pure longing and need for me.
Pulling the knife away from his jewels, I gripped the handle so I could cut my name into his flesh right under the tattoo. “Your life is mine, Cameron, whether you get to keep living it is up to you and your actions. Now I want to go home, make it happen.”
