DAX
An hour after our heart-to-heart, Cam made good on my request and all of us got in the van and headed to the Phantom’s compound.
I’m sure Cam already knew where I lived, but I felt better heading back there where more eyewitnesses were around, just in case.
I believed that this could be a whole set up and Cam wanted to help me, but I still didn’t trust the man himself.
If he could pull something like that off without the FBI noticing, then he’s stepped up his game since I knew him last. What else could he be hiding in plain sight?
We all piled out of the van in the center of the compound, triggering a surge of bikers to come pouring out of the clubhouse. Some gave bro hugs to the guys, while others asked questions about what happened, but Eagle took charge right away.
“Hey. Meeting in the clubhouse in an hour, spread the word. I want everyone one there, including the old ladies,” Eagle announced.
This seemed to settle everyone down for a bit as they scattered to let the others know what was going on.
Ah, small town living, where everyone needs to know your business—well I guess when it’s broadcast on the evening news it might make some waves.
The guys and I headed into their house and oddly it was nice to be back here, it was familiar and felt like my men.
I headed right for Eagle’s room where I’d last seen my bag of clothes that Tilly got me, but as I scrounged around, I couldn’t find it.
“What are you getting into now, little hellcat?” Eagle asked, watching me with a smirk.
“Looking for my clothes, you didn’t throw them out in a fit of rage, did you?” I countered.
Pushing off the wall he was leaning against, he walked over to his dresser and pulled open the middle drawer. “Figured this would be easier for you to get to since you’re so short and all, but it’s yours to keep whatever you want here.”
“You gave me a drawer of my own? Even after our whole fight?” I hedged, walking over and peeking at the clothes that were all neatly folded and clean.
Eagle wrapped his arms around me, resting his chin on the top of my head.
“I told you that fight wasn’t really about me being upset with you, that was all about me and my own personal demons.
When I said I wanted you to move in with us I meant it in every sense.
I even got you your own toothbrush so you don’t have to use mine. ”
I couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Wow, the boss man is ready to share his personal sanctuary with me? I feel so honored.”
“As you should, I don’t let just anyone live after using my bathtub, that should have been your first clue as to how I felt about you,” Eagle teased, before slapping me on my ass and stepping back. “Now get changed, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover with the crew.”
Grabbing clothes, I managed to get them on without too much trouble and situated my sling before peeking in the bathroom to see the neon pink toothbrush with cheetah print on the handle.
Rolling my eyes, I let it go, because for some reason the fact he put that much effort into picking it out made me smile.
Even though it was getting close to lunch time, I could smell fresh coffee coming from the kitchen and I let my nose lead to the source.
I was about to make a joke, thinking it was one of the guys but there was Cameron wearing borrowed jeans with no shirt on and bandaging the mark I gave him.
I know I shouldn’t be so thrown off by this.
I mean, I held the man’s dick and balls at knife point not too long ago, but I wasn’t in the mood to acknowledge how good he looked.
Not that I was in the mood, but it was hard to deny that he was a shirtless buff gorgeous man standing in the afternoon light doctoring a wound that some crazy chick gave him.
Add on the fact that he knew I was watching but didn’t bother to call me on it, allowing me to gawk my fill.
“Did someone make coffee?” Sprocket asked, coming down the stairs.
I looked over my shoulder and just pointed, still not able to speak coherent words.
Sprocket kissed me on the forehead and headed over to the cabinet with the mugs. “You want some, little rebel? Sorry, that was a dumb question, of course you do, let me guess you just got a little distracted?”
“Fuck you, Sprocket,” I snapped not liking being called out like that.
Grinning, he winked and handed me a mug. “Anytime, anywhere, just say the word.”
“Oh eww, you did not just pull a Cognac.” I scowled.
“What about me?” Cognac asked, sliding up behind me. “Is someone getting you all hot ‘n bothered and I’m missing it?”
I stomped on his foot, getting a satisfying oomph out of him, before walking away out onto the porch.
I spotted a porch swing that hadn’t been there before and settled on to the soft seat cushion, pushing off with one of my legs to get it going.
After a few moments, Void came to join me, taking my empty coffee cup out of my hand, before picking me up and setting me on his lap straddling his thighs, so we were face to face.
“What’s up, big guy?”
He brushed his fingers along my jaw, tucking some hair behind my ear just watching me for a few minutes before speaking. “You don’t have to keep him, you know. If it’s too much or too painful, I’ll take care of it. You just give me a nod.”
Smiling at him, I leaned into his touch, loving that he was so ready to do what was needed to take care of me.
“Have I ever told you how amazing you are, Void? I don’t think I’ve met another person who understands my level of stabbyness the way you do.
Like back with Cameron, I didn’t have to say a word, and you just knew what I was planning on doing with him, that kind of bond is rare. ”
“That’s because you are my soulmate,” Void stated, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “You are the other half of my soul and no one is ever going to take you away from me, not even death.”
“You would fight death for me?” I giggled.
“Yes, or I would join you in the afterlife. One does not keep living life without their soulmate once they are found, little demon,” Void explained.
I blinked at him, shocked by how serious he was being about this. “You’re not kidding about this, are you?”
Void shifted his hand so it was now cupping the back of my head as he drew me to him and showed me just how serious he was being about all this.
It was not hurried or frenzied, no it was slow and sensual, making me curl my toes with pleasure.
I wrapped my arm around his neck and leaned in so our bodies were melded together, while his other hand sat on my ass pulling me tight against him.
I could feel his dick hardening under me and I let out a moan, biting on his lower lip before we came up for air.
“I’ve never been more serious about something in my entire life as I am about you, Dax,” Void whispered, resting his forehead against mine.
“Um… I can come back, if now isn’t a good time,” Tilly’s voice said from over to the left.
Lifting my head I grinned at her, and Void helped me off his lap so I could go greet her. “Aw, you can’t be embarrassed by stuff like that, you’ve got two husbands after all.”
“Embarrassed please, that shit was hot as fuck.” Tilly grinned and she gave me a side hug. “I heard you got shot. What the hell, man? I can’t have my new best friend dying off on me so fast. What will the next one think when she asks what happened to my old BFF?”
I hugged her back one more time, having truly missed her. “God, I’ve been surrounded by so much dick it’s nice to have some estrogen in the air.”
Void just grunted and headed off to the clubhouse with a wink. I waved Tilly over to the swing and sat down, ready to catch up on what’s been going on here the past week.
“To be honest, things have been really boring with you gone, the guys were a hot mess for a few days. I could tell there was something going on but no matter how I tried to ask, they just ignored me. I even talked Mutt into asking Void what was up, since they’re friends, but all he got was, and I quote: ‘Our President is an idiot.’ Which we all know every man can be at some point, so that was no help,” Tilly shared, ginning.
“Gator is convinced that you are going to be more trouble than you’re worth as a friend, but I think that’s just your charm. ”
“Hmm, seems like I need to butter Gator up, so he’ll let you come out and play when I ask,” I teased.
Tilly just tossed her head back and laughed. “That man knows better than to tell me I can’t hang out with someone, how do you think Mutt entered the picture?”
The sound of a phone ringing paused our conversation as Tilly answered her phone. “Hello this is Tilly… yes she’s here… who is this?” Tilly pulled the phone away and muted it. “They won’t say who they are but they’re asking for you, he sounds Hispanic.”
My stomach dropped into the pit of my stomach. I’d gotten one friend to safety but now another was in danger. “Hand it over and go find Wes please, he should be still in the house. Tell him we need to trace a call from a friend south of the border.”
Taking a deep breath, I unmuted the phone and lifted it to my ear. “Who the fuck is this and why the hell are you calling on this phone?”
“Hola, senorita, it is nice to finally speak with you,” the man on the other end greeted. “As for who I am, I’m Marco Tesoro.”
Motherfucking son of a bitch, this guy was no longer playing in the shadows, he was stepping up his game.
“To what do I owe this pleasure? It’s not every day that you get to speak to the man who’s trying to kill you,” I mused as Wes appeared with his computer and plugged a cable into the phone.
Wes’s fingers flew over the keyboard as he pulled up whatever he needed and got to work.
“Si, it is most unfortunate that we must chat under such circumstances, but you see I promised my father on his deathbed that I would bring our family name back to the glory it once was. My father was a great man who built an amazing empire, such as yourself, but he became ill and refused to fight to take back what we’d lost over the years.
Now that he is gone, I plan to do what he could not and you, senorita, stand between me and that goal.
People are drawn to you and support you.
I’ve tried many ways to unseat you but their loyalty is to be commended.
So, what is left for me to do other than take out the queen, clearing the field for me to move in as king,” Marco shared, speaking as if I was some ignorant child.
“That still doesn’t explain this phone call,” I snarked back.
Marco let out a sigh. “It is so tragic to lose such a strong woman as yourself in this day and age. Tell me, has your lover traced my call yet? If he has, there should be a very panicked look on his face…”
Glancing at Wes, he met my eyes and flipped the computer around and pointed to a building on a map that looked just like my house.
“Keep watching, you don’t want to miss this,” Marco goaded. “Three… two… one.”
There before my eyes, my house exploded, sending shrapnel everywhere, blowing out the windows of the houses beside us. The video feed went dark after I assumed the surveillance that Wes put up was damaged in the blast.
“You fucking bastard. Do you know what you’ve just done?” I snarled into the phone.
“I most certainly do. Now stop ignoring me and fight me like the demon that everyone tells me that you are!” With that, he cut off the call.
Chucking the phone and letting out a roar of anger, I started to punch whoever it was that walked up to me.
I was dragged off the porch and out into the yard where I tore off my sling and went full out.
I couldn’t think, I couldn’t see, all I could do was fight, landing punches and kicks left and right.
I took a hit to the ribs, but I knew they were holding back, which pissed me off even more.
This proved that nothing was safe in my world.
Anything could be taken from me, and I was done playing defense.
