Noah
The morons I work with are up to something in the hallway. The clamor of voices is louder than usual, suggesting a group has gathered, and a second ago, there was a muffled cheer. Probably the hellhounds causing chaos. Maybe my idiot vampire boyfriend is helping them.
Whatever. As long as they stay the fuck out of my way, I don’t care. I’ll yell at them later for not getting their reports done.
Movement in the doorway catches my eye, and I look up as a remote-controlled toy car races across the room toward me, accompanied by the familiar buzz of a battery-powered engine. It whizzes under out of sight under my desk and collides with my foot.
I push my chair back and grab the car before it can escape, then stand there holding it as the engine buzzes and the wheels spin. The driver will come looking for it soon.
There’s a hissed conversation outside, and Caolan appears in the doorway a second later, controller in his hand, sheepish expression on his face. “Um… sorry, Noah.”
“Don’t you work three floors down?”
“Yes? But… I wanted to show my bros my new car.” He hesitates. “Can I have it back?”
I hold out my other hand, face expressionless. “Give me the controller.”
A collective groan comes from the hallway where his partners in crime are eavesdropping. Caolan’s face falls, and he sighs, then shuffles forward to hand it over. I look at the car and controller, and grin.
“Let’s take this bitch for a spin.”
