ELEVEN

Noah

Oh my god, I can’t believe I let myself get roped into this.

How did this happen? One minute I was living my life, managing Sam’s team, exploring my newfound magic skills, and having wild, crazy sex with the eight-hundred-year-old vampire who’s the love of my life, and the next thing I know, I’m on the “organizing committee” for one of Alistair’s dumb ideas.

I guess it’s my fault… I should have fled immediately when Alistair opened his mouth and said, “I have the best idea.” That was the red flag moment.

Instead, I stayed in the room. To be fair, I didn’t realize he was recruiting lackeys for his insane idea.

And I didn’t know what the idea was—I thought he was planning to order takeout or send an intern to get donuts.

That would have been the “best” idea. Not “let’s have a surprise birthday party for David.

” Seriously, it's like he doesn’t even know David.

But then Caolan jumped on board, and the rest of us somehow got sucked in.

Which is why I’m here, helping to set things up for this party and wondering when my life got so derailed. Is this my fault? Do I make bad choices?

“Stop planning your escape,” Andrew chides, appearing at my side and leaning in to kiss my neck. “Everything’s going to be fine. This will be fun!”

Fun. Sure.
