TEN
Alistair
Everything is falling into place. I knew it would—with me as the organizer, how could it fail? Soon, David’s party will go off without a hitch, and he’ll have the best time ever… and everyone will be saying how amazing I am.
Which I already know, of course, but sometimes it’s nice to hear it.
I sigh happily as I imagine the accolades.
Maybe someone will even give me flowers.
It’s customary to present an event organizer with a bouquet, isn’t it?
Red roses are the usual, but they’re a little formal for me.
I prefer a more relaxed flower. Gerberas and poppies, maybe.
Or those dahlias that are dyed neon colors. That’s more my vibe.
“What’s put that sappy grin on your face?” The Irish lilt I love so much breaks into my thoughts, and I turn my happy —not sappy—grin to Aidan. His sharp features are relaxed in question, and I lean over to kiss his full lips.
“Nothing,” I reply when I pull back. “Just thinking about how amazing and awesome David’s birthday will be.”
He shakes his head. “I still think you’re pushing your luck. You know David’s not a party person.”
I look at him pityingly. He doesn’t know. He’s not on the organizing committee, and of course all the details are top secret. “This isn’t just an ordinary party.”
Instead of looking reassured, alarm crosses his face. “That’s not a comforting thought, Alistair.”
Picturing my moment of glory again, I add the visual of Aidan begging forgiveness for not having faith in me, and then smile at him beatifically.
“It’s going to be epic.”
