Chapter 9
Amara’s POV
I was not able to focus on my work today. What in the hell is happening in my life. Alpha Gray turned out to be Alpha Zachary Gray, my mate. Oh scratch that my ex-mate. Why is he in my pack?
After that dreadful night, I never thought I would meet him again. Hell I never wanted to see his pathetic face again. And here we are, he was there in my own home, having breakfast and all. Not to mention Dad wants me and Ethan to go to his pack for medical aid.
Why is my life such a mess? What have I ever done to deserve this? Why is moon goddess punishing me?
Eva was quiet the whole time. She never shows her emotions to me lately. First few months after the rejection were really hard for me to control her. She was sobbing and angry most of the time.
Then as time passed she realised he was not worth our time and emotions.
That wretched night took everything from us.
I completed my in-patient rounds as usual and returned to my office.
As I opened the door, a strong smell of fresh and woody cologne hit me.
I saw Zachary sitting in my office, holding my family photograph. Seriously this day can’t get any worse.
“What the hell are you doing in my office?” I asked with frustration.
“Umm.. Hi, Amara. I know you were not expecting me here. I... I’m sorry for coming here unannounced” He said standing from his seat, running his hands through his hair.
“Great.. thanks for stopping by, leave my office.. now!!”
“Amara, please give me a chance to speak. I need to know how you feel about this situation. I don’t want to force you into anything” Zachary says pleadingly.
I took a deep breath and continued “Start talking Alpha and make it quick”
“I know how I left things between us four years back. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know very well how you feel about me. Trust me it was never my intention to hurt you this time. My pack desperately needs medical attention.
Alpha Greg tells me that you and one other doctor will be coming to Night Blood pack. I just want to know what’s your take on that?”
“Look, Alpha Gray I seriously didn’t know it was your pack that needed medical staff until I saw you today. So me and Doctor Ethan agreed to come to Night Blood pack. Trust me I don’t want to see your face again, let alone helping you with anything. And as far as your lousy apology goes, save it”
I can see hurt on his face. It’s nothing compared to the pain and insult I received from him.
Eva is looking at him intently. She feels bad, the way I am speaking to him, but she understands my feelings more than anyone. She knows he deserves it. She pointed out he doesn’t have mating marks on his neck. I saw it too, but I couldn’t care less.
I continued in confidence, “But I have already gave my word to my dad that I would go. As a doctor it is my duty to help people in need. I can’t go against that, even if it means I have to be in your pack for awhile”
He looks at me in guilty I pressume, “It’s okay if you say NO. I can understand that. Please don’t take any pressure on my behalf. I don’t want to force you or anything” He says softly.
“Alpha Gray, don’t give yourself so much importance here. Everything is not about you. I’m capable of deciding what’s best for me”
His eyes sparkled with hope for a split second. “So you are coming with me? I mean... to my pack?”
“I don’t want to. But yeah, me and Ethan will be there to help your pack members” I replied honestly.
He gave me a smile. A smile... for moon goddess’s sake. “I just need one thing in return” I announced.
“Anything you ask for ” he got excited for some reason.
“I haven’t told anyone about me finding a mate or getting rejected. I would like to keep it that way. Anyway me coming to your pack is a professional deal. So I don’t want people unnecessarily knowing things about my personal life”
Hurt flashes in his eyes. “Sure” he says. I don’t understand this guy at all. Why am I reading his feelings wrong. He was the one rejected me. I was clearly not good enough for him back then. Why is he acting all hurt and bothered now. Whatever!!
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a patient to check on” with that I left my own office. I desperately need to avoid this guy.
“Avoiding him? good luck with that. Since we are basically moving to his pack” Eva laughed. I roll my eyes at her comment.

Zachary’s POV
On my way back, I thought everything Amara just said. She is so feisty and honest. She just spoke what was on her her mind without any drama. I admire her confidence and intimidated by her at the same time.
She is willing to risk her peace of mind, because she cares for people’s wellbeing. How lovely are her green eyes, they sparkle when she speaks with confidence.
“She hates you, she hates us. You stupid human” Aiden barks at me.
“I know and I deserve every last ounce of her hatred” I say with regret in my voice. At least I’m happy that she is not forced into coming to our pack. I have already failed as a mate. At least I don’t fail as an Alpha. I just hope with time she just forgives me.
Soon I reached the Hotel, Mason greeted me with slight bow.
“Zach, how did it go? Did you meet Amara and the other doctor who would be coming with us?” He asked curiously.
“Well, yeah. I met only Amara. They have very well equipped hospital. We can take their guidance in improving our pack hospital” I told him my honest opinion.
“Oh, Dr. Amara. She is very beautiful and hot isn’t she? You spoke with her. I wish I was there too” he says with a blush.
I know she is beautiful and hot. That doesn’t mean I’m ok with anybody seeing her with anything other than respect. I reluctantly clench my jaw. Aiden is on the surface, ready to mutilate his childhood best friend.
“Hmm..” is the only thing that came out of my mouth.
“Just Hmm.. Are you kidding. She is very sweet, pretty and polite. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her in the morning. She has these magnificent green eyes, anyone can fall for her. Her mate is one lucky bastard. Does she have a mate yet?
I wish I could date her somehow” before he even completes his sentence, I pinned him to the wall.
“I beg you stop talking. She is kind enough to help us with our medical affairs. For Goddess’s sake she is the daughter of one of the respected Alpha’s in our region. Respect her the way you respect me” I say by choking him.
I can see his face turning blue. I suddenly realised what I was doing. I was on verge of killing Mason. I left him hurriedly, he started rubbing his neck with slight fear and confusion in his eyes.
“What in the hell man, don’t you know me. Have I ever disrespected anyone before. I am just admiring her. I have never seen you this worked up before. I can feel your wolf on the edge. What’s wrong?” He says with worry and confusion in his eyes.
Damn, I have to get a hold of myself. See this is what a mate bond is capable of. It plays tricks with you. That’s the reason I never wanted Amara in my life in the first place.
“Nothing is wrong. It’s just that I don’t want to ruin our chances of getting good doctors. We badly need them back home”
Mason looks at me with confusion, I know he doesn’t buy the crap I just said.
He knows me well. But he nodds his head, “Okay, you can tell that in a normal way too. You scared the hell out of me dude. Everything is going to be fine. They have already assured us. I know Alpha Greg will not back out from his words” he is trying to convince me.
“I’m sorry, Masy. Go get some rest. Let Alpha Greg and Beta Henry know that we are leaving for our pack in 2 days. It’s sufficient time for them do all preparations from sending both the doctors with us” I tell Mason.
I went to the bathroom to take shower, more so to calm myself. Aiden is still pissed at Mason. He can’t tolerate some other male admiring Amara, certainly not an unmated male.
