Chapter 6 The First Prince’s Even-Handedness

I put away the whip and went to find the First Prince.

The First Prince, Jing Yu.

Of the three princes, he had taken the most wives.

He was seven years older than me.

The first year I was kept in the capital, I wasn't used to it.

The Emperor let me stay in the palace.

I spent every day with his three sons.

Jing Can and Jing Xuan always mocked me. "She doesn't look like the great general's daughter at all—so delicate!"

I was a girl.

Only four or five years old.

Was it wrong to be a little delicate?

But Jing Yu would always stand up for me and comfort me. "Little sister, don't cry. Big brother will teach them a lesson for you."

As soon as I reached the First Prince's residence gate, someone came out to greet me.

"Princess."

"His Highness has been waiting for you."

I nodded.

Before I even reached the main hall I heard Jing Yu pouring water evenly.

"Beautiful, all beautiful."

"I have them all, I have them all."

Jing Yu had four consorts—two side consorts and two concubines.

Each from prominent families.

He never offended any of them.

My father said the First Prince seemed to have a benevolent heart.

He also said benevolence was difficult for an emperor.

Whether he would be an emperor or not didn't concern me.

When Jing Yu saw me, he stood and came to meet me.

"Qingyi, little sister."

"Come quickly. This peach blossom crisp was made by Zishu herself. Try it."

Peach blossom crisp.

I had only mentioned it in the residence yesterday.

I pulled my thoughts back and praised, "Sister Zishu is truly skillful."

When I left, Jing Yu specially had someone see me out.

This was His Majesty's first son.

All pretense.
